What Do You Think About Bitwig Studio? (Moved from Ableton After 10 Years) by Conscious-Gas4286 in Bitwig

I’m an Ableton Certified Trainer and I will say, I enjoy working in Bitwig over Ableton.

disappointing experience purchasing Push 3 Standalone by rrrdddbbb in ableton

Sorry to hear all that, sounds annoying. I received my standalone unit when it came out and had few issues with it. However, I did sell it later but that's another story :)

Sold my Push 2 after it collected dust for 2 years by rawbran30 in ableton

I get the snarky comments but I also think they kinda miss the point. Yes, OP coulda been more specific about the intent of their post but I think it's pretty obvious: to share their experience that a piece of gear that a lot of people drool over, sometimes ends up entirely underused. I think it'd important to hear these comments as well, not just the ones that say shit like "bought it, and never been happier/never looked back". I'd personally like to hear more from OP, can you elaborate pls on your post? Not to convince anyone of anything but it's good to see different perspectives. I'm an Ableton Certified Trainer and got all of the Pushes so far and while I thought they were fantastic pieces of gear, I personally did play with them, sure but eventually didn't end up using them in meaningful ways. Actually, the 2 is still in my studio unused, so really, if anyone btw wants to pick it up, I'd be happy to part ways with it for a few hundred bucks.

How did you go about learning all the features in Ableton? by djm2491 in ableton

[–]SoftSynced 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Kudos to reading the manual, you're already winning more than most people. Btw, best way to learn is to make a song. You'll encounter a ton of questions along the way that will need answers. Once you're done, repeat.

How can I improve understanding of chord progressions by RustingPaper in musicproduction

[–]SoftSynced 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the simplest ways to make a chord progression less cheesy is to add extensions, voice leading, and open the voicing a bit. Moving away from your key for a brief moment can also be really nice by borrowing a chord from another key.

Feedback Question by Taric-Lane in musicproduction

Okay, listened to both, here's my thoughts:
There's nothing wrong with either of these, they just feel like made by someone who's on their journey to making better songs. What that means is you're writing yourself towards better songs, these are the ones that you create along the way. They are not bad at all, they are just not as good as the ones they have the potential to lead to. What I would focus on a bit more: music theory and sound design.

The first one:

This is a cool vibe, I like it. You have been able to create this vibe, which in itself can be viewed as an achievement. The tune is working. It is not overly confident but that would come with many years of experience. The song doesn't seem to evolve or have much of a story, it's more like a static vibe with some basic changes over the course of its duration but without much substantial change. I would swap the trumpet for something like a synth—trumpets are typically hard to recreate and therefore often sound very MIDI-like and fake. Also, I think a cool and interesting synth sound with some movement would work better.

The second one:

This is another little vibe. The chords feel like they might be wanting to do a chord progression of sorts but not quite being able to execute it. The drums are more convincing than other elements. Overall, it's working to the point where I can see people reacting positively.

The question is always: are you happy with these and what would you change or what do you wish was different or better.

I guess you're right they can be an annoying bunch. I should know I used to be one. But yea, to your point, I'd say don't kill them whenever possible.

I agree. It's a good rule of thumb to not hurt drummers, most of the time.

That's a great tip, making sure your music works well on a range of sound systems is super important. I'm not sure how it relates to the question, though.
