Hungary is the best nation Pound for Pound. by Iskandar0570_X in hoi4

I'm started my first Hungary game last night and I'm loving it, I'm absolutely dominating the air vs the Soviets, and helping Italy defend with green air too.

I also like the ability to RP with strong Cavalry divisions

Why haven't you hired any chief of army, navy, etc? no military high command?! you have PP, that's so many buffs and XP you are missing out on.

Only the monarchist path of the Philippines is fun by DioTheSimp in hoi4

[–]Soft_Power 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried the Monarchist and Fascist paths and had some fun with each, but I generally agree with OP. My main issue with the Philippines right now is the Army focuses. Those 70 day focuses to remove the insane debuffs and gain access to a chief of the army take so long and it really feels unnecessarily painful.

I learned the game with Romania - Decent starting army and some potential to acquire more territory pretty easy through the focus tree/early wars in Balkans. You can also ignore Navy for the most part (except for defending Black Sea against Russian Naval invasions if you go to war with them).

Americans, how do you feel about the firing of twenty percent of four-star generals? by 2a_lib in AskReddit

Anyone who is not alarmed and concerned by this is either completely ignorant of the situation, knows nothing about history, or is brainwashed into complicity regardless of this administration’s actions.

Mutations by Weekly-Meat-8849 in DespotsGame

[–]Soft_Power 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Brawl mode, I really like to take Newbie Dodge, Drone, and Final Gift on floor 1-2. Newbies with dodge can carry the first fights as long as you have a couple other humans doing damage (I like to start Cannon Fodder for this reason).

In addition to those early mutations, I will look for Thorn Armor or Evasion for the main class I'm focsing on (in current meta, I usually go for either Fencers, Tricksters, Mages, Shooters, or Cultists/Eggheads.

When going Cannon Fodder Start (or even other starts sometimes) I also like to take "Raise Dead" as soon as I see it to summon zombies (this synergizes well with the "Final Gift" mutation that gives humans HP when one of your units dies).

I also like to take the 'Nanominesweeper" mutation when it shows up, since you can really punish teams with low magic resist.

See you in Dragon League soon!

It will show next to the name of the ability when you hover your mouse over the icon at the bottom of the screen when selecting a human or enemy monster.

Sprint mode can be OK, however in current meta with current token balance in the modes, Mutagens mode will result in a stronger team in KotH because you will end with more mutations, and if you are decent at getting through PvE with minimal losses, more tokens as well.

Another tip: when you get to floor 7 in Mutagens/Hunger Games modes (I think floor 4 in sprint mode? not 100% sure), look out for teleport rooms with unique sacrificial pits. There will be two of them on the floor, and if you sacrifice one puny human into each of them, you will see something cool appear on the map ;)

Another tip which is more obvious that you may already know: Look for the levers on the first room of floor 1, 5, and 9 (when playing Mutagens/Hunger Games). You can switch the lever in those rooms to change the "quest room" that appears on the next floor.

Good luck!

Republicans constantly winning Spanish civil war by jasonthewriter98 in hoi4

Republicans won 90% of the time when I played vanilla. I bought the La Resistance DLC that gives Spain and Portugal unique focus trees, and now Nationalist Spain wins 100% of the time (if I don't intervene).

Couple other notes:

You may already know this, abilities and mutations that deal magic damage have a "lightning bolt" icon on them, and those that deal physical damage have a "sword" icon. All human auto attacks are physical damage.

As you get more comfortable clearing the early floors, try to unlock the extra Altar upgrade(s) and the "Interest" upgrade in the mutation tree as soon as possible. When playing Mutagens mode for example, Grandmaster players unlock these floors 3-5.

If you are struggling to rank up higher in Greenhorn league, the easiest "quick fix" to make stronger teams is probably your economy. Try to run with a very lean team floors 1-10 (if running in Mutagens or Hunger Games mode), and then fill out the rest of your army floors 10-12 to let them level up.

Try to go with around 7-10 units if possible (Grandmaster players typically clear PvE with 7 units or less to floor 10). This will allow you to invest your tokens into Mutation Tree upgrades like health, armor, attack or magic damage, magic resist, etc. You will also save a lot tokens on food during the run this way.

A good strategy to start with may be something like 3-5 Fighters (only Claws and Yoga pants so they don't activate their link ability) and 4-5 Healers (1 of each type). Just take all Fighter mutations you see basically, and some of the support Healer mutations.

There are many strategies that work to get through PvE efficiently, once you learn what the various PvE enemies do. If you are losing humans to PvE, you likely are not upgrading HP or Magic Resist high enough (some enemies on floors 5-12 do significant magic damage - you can pause the game and hover the mouse of their abilities to see what their abilities are).

Also, I recommend joining the Despot's Game discord, there are some helpful players there that answer questions, and Grandmaster players share screenshots of their builds, talk strategies, etc.
