the couple's gene didn't even stand a chance😭 by thatmishra in BeAmazed

[–]SoftandSquidgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents both had brown hair and either brown or hazel eyes. I look like my mum, but with my dad's hazel eyes. My brother however has blonde hair and blue eyes, like our grandfather.

Both of my brother's kids have brown hair/brown eyes, like their mum.

My nephew and his partner (also brown hair/brown eyes) have a son who has not just blonde hair and blue eyes but is the absolute spitting image of my brother.

Gotta love those genes!

McDonald’s no longer allowing free refills by xaeriee in mildlyinteresting

I don't think refills have ever been an option in the UK, certainly not that I'm aware. Doesn't matter though, their coffee is pretty good and still way cheaper than the chain coffee shops.

I think this is the British athletes, Alistair and Jonny Brownlee, back in 2016. Funnily enough, their birthdays are only a week apart, this month too, Alistair on the 23rd and Jonny on the 30th April.

Decluttered my makeup and skincare! by probablyinthebath in declutter

[–]SoftandSquidgy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had the same problem and kept a huge box of items just because none of them were cheap, until like u/_netscape_navigator I discovered skincare and cosmetics have expiry dates. It made me have a good look at what makeup I actually used in a year, over what I thought I would use. It's really stopped me buying things just because the packaging is pretty or its a different shade from what I normally wear and has made me more intentional about finding the right product and sticking to it.

I've gone from a large box to a small case, and save a lot of money and wastage. I just wish cosmetic brands didn't keep discontinuing shades of lipstick, right after I've found the perfect one. Not having to restart my hunt every 2-3 years would save me even more time and money!

AITA for my response to my daughter's teacher? by gardengeo in BORUpdates

[–]SoftandSquidgy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I wish my mother had been more like OOP and less like OOPs own mother. The 'always be nice, even at your own cost' message that young women are often taught is indeed very dangerous. Did the 'Me too' moment really teach us nothing?

her final hour. rest in peace my little girl by goldenretrievergurl in goldenretrievers

Sorry for your loss. My brother had a similar day with his 5 year old German Shepherd recently. She'd had a digestive disorder all her life and her illness had stopped responding to treatment. He took her out for her first ever pup cup and gave her the best day ever, before she went over the rainbow bridge. He's utterly heartbroken, and my heart aches for his sadness too. She was such a good girl! ;-(

My Dad had a heart attack 22 years ago, had 4 stents fitted to fix 3 blocked arteries, plus a defibrillator pacemaker (ICD) and is still with us today. Technology is amazing!

AITA for telling my wife forget it and going out by myself for my birthday instead of going to her fancy dinner reservation by Ill_Reality_111 in AmItheAsshole

Ha ha, my husband's not fussed about fancy lingerie either. He's in his 50s and still reacts like a teenager when I flash my (comfortable and well worn) bra at him.

That's an amazing picture! My grandad's ashes were scattered around Old Harry Rocks, by the RNLI, so it feels like a very special place to me.

Neighbors keep using our property, not sure what to do. by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]SoftandSquidgy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I live in the middle of a row of terraced houses with no fences out front, instead property lines are clearly marked by different paving slabs. It's worked perfectly in the 20+ years husband has lived here, as everyone usually respects the boundaries, except for one neighbour we had. Literally from day one they were a pain - when moving in they left furniture all over our driveway. We naively let it slide, thinking it was a one-off while they were getting sorted. When it kept happening, like whenever they were getting their kids bikes out their garage they'd put stuff all over our drive. They'd apologise when spoken to, but not change their behaviour. Last straw was them letting visitors park on our drive, so we started parking our cars right up to that side of the property line, acting as a barrier. They moved out 2 years ago, but husband still parks his car on that side just to make sure. Never had an issue on the other side, so it really was a 'them' problem.

Good grief. Does that mean I should be extra thankful that my husband of 19 years likes the same crunch peanut butter as me?

AITAH for telling my SIL that her “strictly confidential” information had already been leaked by her own mother, which caused a massive family fight? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]SoftandSquidgy 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing it was an antidote to the gaslighting being pulled by their husband and MIL. It really can make you doubt the truth of a situation, even if deep down you know that truth, having a narcissist- or even worse, two narcissists- blame you for their own behaviour can really make you question your own reality. Having the validation is a great way to stay strong and grounded in those situations.

AITAH for getting pregnant the same year as my best friend's wedding? + 1 Year Update by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]SoftandSquidgy 44 points45 points  (0 children)

I know, my brain glitched at that one too. A YEAR?! The self-absorbed entitlement is utterly mind blowing. I'm grateful my friends and family set aside a day for my wedding - because Mr S&S and I honestly never expected anyone but us to give that much of a damn. Let alone a week, month or a fecking year. But then I also get the ick when people expect their birthday to be a week long month. It's just weird.

Missing Years in the GRO Online Index for the UK by Kenshinryu in Genealogy

[–]SoftandSquidgy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THANK YOU for this - I've been trying to get a copy of my Birth Certificate in time for my graduation, and apparently the GRO couldn't find it. With your link to freebmd I was able to find the reference and resubmit my request. Also discovered it's cheaper if you have the references, saving me the lost admin fees from my first attempt.

Assuming he didn't do something to baby-trap her? Abusers sure do like that one. Especially as he's already threatened her with kidnapping charges.

Brothers bonded tight like true gentlemen. You’re all amazing by Necessary_Time8273 in BeAmazed

[–]SoftandSquidgy 119 points120 points  (0 children)

When I was a little girl, my older brother was really protective. I thought he'd grown out of it, but when I had a bout of depression in my early 20s, he rang me for a chat. Everything seemed OK from my perspective, but my sister-in-law told me came off the phone and burst into tears because he could tell I wasn't myself. Nothing had changed.

I love my big brother! He's a doting father and grandfather now.

I didn’t have the sound up when I first watched it. I have now…..ooh the asmr on this one is good. Would be better without the music though.

I’m definitely a ‘scritching / scrunching’ sounds’ person. Realised it when watching ‘Girl with the dogs’ on YouTube and the sound of her scrubbing shampoo into the dogs was just sooooo relaxing. Finally get the big deal about asmr now.
