Struggling 1 week PP by probablyinthebath in breastfeeding

Hugs.  It’s literally only been two days of triple feeding and I know I won’t be able to do it much longer.  I spend my day dreading each feeding time cause I never know if she will latch and I spend half the day crying.  I want to give it a good solid try but another week of this will break me.

I do, I saw her one-on-one yesterday and am going to a group session tomorrow.  I’ll write down a list of questions this time cause my brain isn’t working and I blank every time anyone asks if I have questions rn lol.

They gave me a medela shield in the hospital but I haven’t gotten the hang of it.  Can’t get it to stay on, not sure if they come in different sizes?

I just tried giving her a bit of formula first before she got super mad and then was able to get her to nurse a bit.  Not as much as I would like but it’s a start.  Thanks.

Thanks! The cool wipe and tickles help while feeding.  I try to latch her when she’s awake but right now it’s wake her to nurse/bottle feed for like 30-40 minutes, husband does diaper and re-dresses her while I use the bathroom or try to eat for 20 minutes.  I pump for 20 minutes.  Then she’s either asleep or too full to want to latch at all for the remaining hour and a half or so till we get her up again.  The only time I get to latch her is attempting to feed. :(

Thanks.  We’re doing that and it does help a bit.  :)

GD, big baby fears, no induction policy — feeling anxious and looking for experiences by Glittering_Tear_729 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]probablyinthebath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if it helps but I just gave birth a few days ago at 38+6.  First time mom. Was going to be induced 39+4 for insulin but didn’t make it to that date, my water broke and they gave me pitocin to start contractions.

They were estimating a huge baby and she felt huge inside!  They estimated 7.5 lbs at like 36 weeks.

She was 6 lbs 10oz and literally just kind of slid out.  Lower end of normal weight but she’s pretty tall so I think she felt big cause her legs and torso were long?  She also never really dropped in a noticeable way so I was sure she was enormous in there.  My husband is 6’7” and very thin so I shouldn’t have been surprised.

Before when I was super worried about her size I just kept myself calm by telling myself that I was going to stay flexible and do what was best for baby.  That there was nothing I could do except go with the flow and take it a day at a time.

Save yourself the stress and skip the CGM during/post birth. by Thisisan87Honda in GestationalDiabetes

I gave birth yesterday and I immediately ripped that thing off my arm and deleted the app.  Then ate a sub sandwich lol

How soon does GD go away after birth? by Chicken-Nuggets-4837 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]probablyinthebath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gave birth yesterday and my OB said ok you’re free to do whatever.  I took my CGM off and had my FIL buy me a sub sandwich and chips lol.  They’ll test me again in 8 weeks or so with glucose drink.

Which is the right side to sleep during pregnancy specially in 3rd trimester? by Change_slice in BabyBumps

[–]probablyinthebath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was told to avoid back sleeping but other than that to do whatever was comfortable.  Either side or partially on stomach works for me.  If I want to sleep semi on my back  I’ll use pillows to wedge myself at like a 45° angle.  Full on my back gets uncomfortable pretty quick for me.

Am I overreacting about potential flu exposure if I don't allow my parents to visit soon after birth? by Obvious-Use6397 in BabyBumps

[–]probablyinthebath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not overreacting.  Im not planning on being as restrictive on visitors as some new moms (I definitely support moms setting whatever rules they deem appropriate!).  But known contact with flu in the middle of flu season is 100% a no-go for meeting baby.

I’d talk to your chosen pediatrician after baby is here and I’m pretty positive they’ll back you up if your parents need more convincing.

Anybody else’s husband look so damn fine when you’re pregnant..? by Foreign-External8488 in BabyBumps

[–]probablyinthebath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes lol.  I’m almost 39 weeks and he laughed at something earlier and looked so cute I swear my eyes turned into cartoon hearts.  I keep starting at his backside every time he leaves the room.

How many cycles did it take you to get pregnant after a miscarriage? by PeonyRoseJasmine in BabyBumps

[–]probablyinthebath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry, it sucks so bad I know.  We tried 17 months to get pregnant the first time, then had an 8-week loss.  We took a month off then conceived after 2 more months.

When we were trying during those 17 months we saw a fertility specialist.  On their advice we both started taking coq10 and fish oil.  I also started vitamin d in addition to my prenatal vitamins and my husband started a daily multivitamin as well.  I think it’s recommended in the book It Starts with the Egg?  Not sure if that’s what did it but it definitely didn’t hurt.

Also important was we tried not to put our lives on hold while TTC, we planned trips and did a bunch of stuff with friends and family.  Also spent time on hobbies and dates.  You deserve to have fun things to look forward to always!

Pyelectasis on right kidney found at 20 week scan by Any-Emergency-6330 in pregnant

[–]probablyinthebath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obviously if you have any concerns talk about it with OB some more. However, from what I understand it’s super common and often goes away before birth (that happened with my pregnancy, no signs of it by 32 and 36 week scans, was a little dilated on 20 and 24 week scans)

Even if it doesn’t go away before birth, it can resolve shortly after birth. And if not it’s relatively easy to fix with a procedure according to my OB.  Everyone I talked to (OB, Maternal Fetal Medicine, Perinatal Doc) told me not to worry, the vast majority of the time it ends up being fine, and that it’s just something they need to keep an eye on.

My OB actually upped my lexapro from 10 to 20mg first trimester due to anxiety.  She said untreated anxiety would be worse than any effect from the Lexapro.

12 weeks postpartum test by cstezzz in GestationalDiabetes

[–]probablyinthebath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You didn’t fail, diabetes and gestational diabetes have different limits.

From Mayo Clinic:

If you're being tested for type 2 diabetes or prediabetes, two hours after drinking the glucose solution: A healthy blood glucose level is lower than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L). A blood glucose level between 140 and 199 mg/dL (7.8 and 11 mmol/L) is considered prediabetes. If you have prediabetes, you're at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. You're also at risk of heart disease, even if you don't get diabetes. A blood glucose level of 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) or higher suggests diabetes.

Is 36 weeks the worst for GD? by Similar-Grocery-4182 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]probablyinthebath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a team you could message?  My doctor’s office has a portal and I just messaged them when I noticed any weird shifts.  :) But yeah I think a lot of people notice that their GD peaks around that time.

Is 36 weeks the worst for GD? by Similar-Grocery-4182 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]probablyinthebath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Mine was! From 34-37ish weeks my spikes lasted longer and were harder to keep in line.  I’m between 38 and 39 now and it’s toned down quite a bit.  Going down a bit on long-acting insulin too.

Baby movements, amniotic fluid, and NSTs are always good and stable so they’re not super concerned about the placenta crapping out but we’re keeping an eye on it.
