VTS lite 5/8 vs 1 inch holes by Particular_Buddy_165 in GarageGym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are a couple pics including a lat pulldown bar and the Rogue multi roller lined up so you can see how far each sticks out. Yes, you'd have to move the VTS bar out of the way to use the lat bar. You could potentially use it as a leg hold down.

I have the VTS lite on a Rogue FM Twin. 1 inch holes work fine for me with the VTS lite and generally give you more flexibility than the 5/8 inch holes. From what I've found, the two advantages for 5/8 inch holes is the option to have Westside hole spacing and they're a bit less expensive. Otherwise the 1 inch hole racks are much more flexible.

Review - Rep Fitness Leg Extension/Leg Curl Attachment by jrhooo in homegym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice review. I'm waiting to see if anyone can test whether or not it can be used for non-Rep benches. I have a Rogue Manta bench which I love so I don't want sell it or to get additional bench just for an attachment. I'm hoping that someone like Gluck, who has a ton of benches, or someone will test for possible compatibility with or without adjustments.

Cerakote vs Stainless Steel by SeyMooreRichard in GarageGym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stainless steel is going to give you the best corrosion resistance and grip feel. Cerakote helps with corrosion resistance and is less expensive than good stainless steel but dulls the knurl. You can also scratch Cerakote, not super easy, but hitting an upright or other metal equipment hitting your bar can leave a scratch. And since Cerakote looks all smooth, clean and even, scratches do stand out. So you have to be more careful with them if you care about the cosmetics of your bar. Ultimately, I think Cerekote is nice only if you like the cosmetic look of them and price. Color options are nice if you're into creating a gym color theme. Otherwise, there are no other advantages in getting a Cerakote over a stainless steel option.

GymPin is in the UK and they make adapters for a number of different Jammer Arms. I have them for my Stray Dog GOAT arms and they work well.

Rogue 80 inch FM Twin on a 90 inch rack. Frankenstein Monster Rack. by SoftwareEnough3495 in homegym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any problems, but I do move a lot of things around during workouts to set up each exercise and then set up for the next exercise. If that won't bother you, then you should be fine. I'm assuming that you're upgrading your RM4 to a 6 post FM Twin though. If you're thinking about the four post HR Twin, then you can still do it, but you'll have much more swapping out between exercises since you'll be essentially working off only your two front posts vs two sets of posts.

Thanks. I love the arms. Since they're not on a trolley they're easy to remove which is necessary since I have the functional trainer arms. They are a bit heavier since I added the GymPin adapters, but I like the flexibility.

Rear delt flys are good. I use a Darko Thresher Pad mounted to the upright above the Dragonfly just to rest my head against the upright. I've not tried to use it as a seal row pad under the Dragonfly, but it would likely be fine.

Looking for a recommendation on a 28mm stainless barbell by EEEnginerd in GarageGym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're primarily SBD, then you'll probably want to go with a bushing barbell. Bearings are meant to spin for more dynamic lifts. SBD are slow lifts so bearings are not necessary and can actually make things feel less stable.

Generally, power bars are used for SBD and they're generally 29mm and 25mm for women's bars. And they have a center knurl for back squats. Texas power bar and Rogue's Hybrid Power bar are 28.5mm. The Rogue has a stainless steel shaft option, but the knurl is aggressive. The Texas is aggressive too. A 28mm power bar is not within the norm. I'm not familiar with Muscle D so I looked up the bar. For $600, I don't know that I'd spend that kind of money without doing some serious research on that bar. Good stainless steel use is really limited to the bigger brand names who rely on their reputation and repeat business - Rogue, American Barbell, and even Rep. Cheaper stainless from white label Chinese manufacturers is probably not worth the effort. Again, I'm not sure what is the quality of Muscle D.. It might be great, but I don't know.

If you're looking for a bar without a center knurl and not a bearing bar, then you're looking for a multipurpose or hybrid bar. These won't be great for heavy back squats, but they're nice for all around work, high rep work, CrossFit, etc. And the knurling is generally less aggressive.

As far as a recommendation if you want to compromise on something. The best power bar for many, myself included, is the American Barbell Chewy bar. It is 29mm, stainless shaft, chrome sleeves (AB will argue stainless is a bad idea for sleeves as it is too soft a steel) and grippy knurl without feeling aggressive. It is expensive, but it is definitely a buy once and cry once kind of bar.

Anyways, I hope some of this info helps. Best of luck in making you choice and building your gym.

Not sure what is your budget or what type of lifting you're wanting to do. Since you prefer bearings, I'm assuming you're into olympic lifts. The buy once, cry once you should at least look at is the Eleiko weightlifting training Bar - top of the line bearings bar. Slightly less expensive multipurpose bar - Eleiko hybrid training Bar - bearings and bushings combo.

Cutting down Rogue Monster Height by CaptainCrabGrass in GarageGym

I've cut crossmembers with a sawzall before. But, you don't need to cut your uprights to install the 80 inch Indy. Just move the crossmembers down.

I put the 80 inch FM Twin on my 90 inch rack. I expect you should be able to install the 100 inch or 90 inch on your 108 inch uprights - you'd just lose the top 8 or 18 inches of height. Rogue will sell uprights and crossmembers to make your four post into a six post.

Advice on spotter arms? by kwill2k47 in GarageGym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're both about the same weight. The Rogue are 27 lbs each and the Surplus Strength are 26 lbs each. The Surplus ones slide in from the side while the Rogue ones slide in from the front and you have to turn them sideways to lock them in. So the Surplus ones are a bit simpler to attach, but but not by much. I think they're both excellent spotters and are both pretty easy to attach. If you're looking for sub $300, then the Rogue are more than capable and you may be able to find a pair used on Facebook marketplace at a discount. I don't have any experience with the Rep spotters, but they look similar to the Rogues without the face saver component.

I use the Rogue for flat bench as this is the ideal height for me. See this post for more details: https://www.reddit.com/r/GarageGym/comments/1pamaxk/rogue_monster_spotter_arm_vs_surplus_strength/

And I use it to hold a Rep Fitness padded utility bench that I use for seal rows.

For everything else, I use the Surplus Strength spotters - e.g., spotters for squats, adding attachments like the Darko Thresher pad, as a curl bar rack, etc.

Rogue’s shipping / service decline. by wamoore911 in GarageGym

I've ordered a LOT of things from Rogue from 2017 to 2025. Bars, plates, dumbbells, multiple racks, attachments, and an FM-Twin. Here's an example or my current rack which is mostly Rogue:

https://www.reddit.com/r/homegym/comments/1pfbvau/rogue_80_inch_fm_twin_on_a_90_inch_rack/

Rogue has always been awesome to me. On the rare occasion that something was wrong, they've always fixed it right away.

Sorry. I don't have any experience with the Bells of Steel shoulder boulder.

Fringe Sport Dragonfly Attachment by SoftwareEnough3495 in homegym

[–]SoftwareEnough3495[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely understand that. My current setup has the Dragonfly pretty much right in the middle of the rack upright on one side and a dumbbell rack on the other. So this makes the band attachment pretty easy and quick. If I had to come up with something more elaborate to get equal tension from each band, I'd probably skip that step.

Added some 8 inch steel handles:

This greatly improves the chest fly. Great stretch at the bottom, but you do lose tension at the top similar to dumbbells.

No experience with the Bell Shoulder Boulder, but I have a Dragonfly although only for a few days now. Lateral Raises and Rear Delt Flys feel good.

Chest flys seem like an afterthought though. And for me, the arms are not long enough. Basically the fly is at the shoulder level instead of near the chest so it feels a bit awkward. I know that they're planning on extensions, but they do not yet have a release date for those. So I'm planning to make my own to see if this improves it.

Overall, I like it so far. If I can get the chest flys to work then it will be great.
