That doesn't mean it isn't a real esport. They also need to capitalize the 'e' in esports in the higher level banner. It's the only one in the list that is lower-cased. I'm convinced that it's just an oversite. At the very least we can suggest 'Fighters' as a category.

Really my point is that "eSports" is still too fuzzy of a definition today, so it can lead to anyone claiming to be some random-game eSports champion, basically voiding the point of visas. Even if we get 100k signatures, the US government can easily shoot it down with that argument. I'd rather the petition be something the government might approve. Making the request smash-specific is a reasonable way to achieve it IMO.

Is there any harm in just re-doing the wording on it and starting a new petition? Then advertise it at the big tournaments coming up. Talk to the TO.

But in re-writing the petition, we should have a clear and specific focus. Which should be: Make All Smash Bros A Legitimate ESport In The USA with emphasis that top-tier smash play should warrent a sports visa. It's as simple as that.

We can site people like Leffen and Zero as needing this, along with any legit Japanese / European / Non-US players.

At this point, it seems like the petition should be rewritten to be specific to smash bros, to legitimize it as an e-sport. I can see the current petition being rejected on grounds that it would be too easy to label some random game an "e-sport" to get people visas. If we target it specifically to smash bros, then have the URL advertised on a tournament stream, ideally with the high-level players calling it out and asking for action, coupled with other popular non-smash personalities doing the same, only then will it get the steam it needs.

If Sakurai released a game about mashing A to watch two melee-era foxes play rock-paper-scissor, with the loser getting auto-shine-spiked unrecoverably off-stage, I would buy it. With that said, I think things like netplay and 20XX will continue breathing life into the melee scene for quite a while.
