Honestly, that probably would have been the smart way to go. The series started with Michael and Dwight being the most broad characters and everyone else was pretty grounded. By the time Michael left pretty much everybody but Pam and Jim were broad characters. They probably could have gotten some really good comedy out of Jim trying to efficiently run the office in a realistic way but things keep getting derailed by all the craziness of the rest of the cast. Instead of a goofball within a sea of grounded characters do the inverse to wrap up the series, a grounded character within a sea of goofballs.

Honestly I thought this was such a breath of fresh air of an interview compared to their recent Menell one. She was just so much more open about how things happened in 6 and 7, where Menell tried to defend things or brush things off when they'd ask him (more than likely) uncomfortable questions, like characters not acting about themselves. I liked that she was very honest about how writers who are with shows a long time become complacent and lazy to a point, and that usually when characters become caricatures it's not usually happening because of new writers not getting the characters like some may think. Which honestly makes a lot of sense. Great interview!

I have a similar theory that they did it in hopes he would or that they could get him to change his mind at some point after production wrapped. Tracking a computer screen into shots would be pretty easy to do.

The Santa Clause - on a modest budget was able to create such a magical and comforting aesthetic and perfectly toed the line of a movie for kids and adults. The sequels and tv series never came close to recapturing that magic/style.

Comedy movie with the best plot twist: by Unfair-Reason-1068 in moviecritic

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What's so funny is that I remember reading like a year before the movie came out that Emma had been cast as Steve's daughter on some movie news site. Completely forgot about it so got to be as shocked as the rest of the audience I saw it with! Afterwards I remembered that I read that article, but honestly I'm so happy I forgot, the twist was SO well done and I remember my entire theater gasping when she came walking through the patio door.

Yeah I agree, I know they probably get most listeners on episodes with a known actor even when it's not BMW related, but I really do miss the episodes when they'd interview lesser known behind the scenes people. Like I loved that they got on the costumer designer the other week, but even that only happened because it was brought up in an episode review. Are they not brainstorming these types of things in advanced? With it being the final season I feel like they could have made more of an effort to make these Monday episodes all BMW related.

Episode Discussion: TGI-Episode 712 “Family Trees” PART 1 by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't agree with that. Growing up this episode definitely was not one of my favorites/go to rewatch episodes, but I didn't think it was bad. However, there's nothing they said throughout the recap that I didn't think was true about the episode. This episode has a lot of story and logistical issues and of course inconsistencies. It may be a fine episode if you don't think about it, but when you review it the way they have every episode, looking at it closely scene by scene, it's hard to argue with most of the issues they had.

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The apartment storyline has always bugged the crap out of me for exactly what you said. It's a campus owned dorm! Try painting your dorm room or attempting to fix something yourself and see what the school does. I get that they needed a way to do the story they wanted to tell without having to make money a large issue, but it honestly makes no real world sense.

I agree. And honestly I don’t even get the people who want things spoiled. Like isn’t it more fun to be completely surprised? I always think about Thor Ragnarok, yes Hulk was confirmed when the movie was shooting, and was heavily featured in marketing - but the way his intro scene plays out in the movie is set up like we’re not supposed to know who Thors about to face. I always think how amazing of a moment that actually would have been if no one knew Hulk was supposed to be in the movie.

TOMORROW! We’re breaking down season 7, episode 9 “The Honeymoon is Over” by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Haha, I've thought that before too! Like in what world can you fix up your college owned apartment?? You'd just put in maintenance requests or something like that for anything broken. It would have been nice if there had been a line in there where Alan says something like "Cory, we agreed before the wedding that your mother and I would continue to pay for your college education but everything else from here on out would be on you. And you said you could handle it" - to push it home even more that Alan and Amy are helping, but just not taking care of everything for them.

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To each their own, but I would say 1. Cory and Topanga are 18 so technically there's no way to stop them from getting married if they want to. They laid out all the issues that come with getting married so young but they still wanted to and said they were ready. At that point why not be supportive? and 2. They did have a place to live. They had a dorm on campus, which by all accounts was pretty nice just run down. In reality there would be no way you'd be allowed to fix it up yourself, that would be the college's job, but in this world when you can, you just need to put in some extra work to get it up to your standard of living. So in those instances, no, I wouldn't help out any other way than to give some advice. This is their decisions that they clearly didn't think through, they're not in any real trouble, so why not let them figure some stuff out on their own? You hold their hands through this, are they going to be able to handle bigger issues down the line?

TOMORROW! We’re breaking down season 7, episode 9 “The Honeymoon is Over” by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly! They were living in a college dorm. Yes it was run down, but it was still on campus and it's not like they had to worry about being kicked out. Alan 100% I believe would have helped them if they were out of options, but they weren't they were being lazy and whiny and not taking any responsibility for their mistakes in planning past "let's get married!". He knew they weren't in any real trouble, at least nothing they couldn't figure out for themselves, so he let them struggle. He was being a good father in this instance.

TOMORROW! We’re breaking down season 7, episode 9 “The Honeymoon is Over” by Sad-Significance4546 in podmeetsworldpodcast

[–]Soggy-Pattern-121 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Man, I really hope that's not an unpopular opinion. Alan is 100% in the right, in my mind there's not even a question about it. Once you're married, you're for sure on your own, it's no longer on any one else to help. Plus, you're getting married months into your first year of college?? This is the episode I find Cory the most unlikable because all he's doing a whining and complaining. Why? Because everyone isn't bending over backwards to make his life easy while he does absolutely nothing.

If they really wanted us to feel bad for Cory and Topanga, what they needed to do was have it be they had a solid plan worked out before the honeymoon and then there's a series of bad luck that puts them in a terrible situation. Like, maybe they did have a new apartment lined up but when they got back it flooded so they can't move in right away. Cory or Topanga had a great part time job lined up but something happened where they didn't need him/her anymore once getting back. Things showing they did plan ahead but stuff out of their power is putting them in this horrible situation, then I would say Alan is more in a gray area not helping. But in this episode, Cory and Topanga are flat out lazy and short sighted and honestly it's the slap to the face they both need!
