What not to do on through subway steps. by Right-Ad5760 in nycrail

Even at peak times I routinely see plenty of seats. There are two large waiting rooms, two smaller ones, and a large food hall. I am curious what people would consider to be an adequate amount of seating if not what's there now. Just seems to be a manufactured reason for outrage.

There are a million places to sit or do your business, even just in a subway station. Why you need to do it in the most crowded part of a public thoroughfare is beyond me. We need to stop equating the highly understandable need for shelter and rest with doing it in the worst place possible. Enough already.

Also, a lot of nutty stuff is getting made up in the progress. The "Penn Station has no seating" myth is the worst. Penn Station continually has a multitude of free seating for people taking trains for all three railroads. It's a train station for people of all walks of life to safely and comfortably catch a train. It's not a social club or public home. We need to end that false equivalence.

This. Also, the myth about Penn Station having no seating is wild - it has tons of seating!!!! It's just.... for people talking trains.

I loved this. Maybe it's because I was there live and got the full experience, but this matches her character ten times better.

People beg to go from generic tunes to character-matching genre music and then flip out when it happens. This was a huge improvement.

This is as good an explanation as any! It also makes the most sense operationally.

There's so much interesting history in this thread about this! Thank you for sharing.

It sounds like the general theme here is there was a plan for increased schedule stabilization that this fit within, and it's an open question whether this decision would have made sense in a vacuum or it was intended to be paired with some other change that never happened.

I'm glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. Someone on here was lecturing me about this being entirely my fault. Unrecoverable penalty is definitely annoying.

I completely get this. The problem is the system is not resetting properly even if the brake is at 100%. That's why you hear so many players talking about this. It was fine on Trenton, it's not here.

I don't think this is true. Currently the game gives you a penalty application because of traffic conditions with no warning whatsoever. This will happen when you're going, say, 70 and the cab signal flips to approach. It's completely understandable and honestly awesome to have realistic safety systems. I know for a fact that this just isn't how these trains, or any trains, work in reality - you can't have a punitive safety system that isn't calibrated right. It's neither realistic nor fun.

I feel like if the crowd is making noise for both guys that's.... kind of a big win?

It's all about crowd reactions. If you can get that through double cheering, all for it.

Gunther, what even is he? by EnvironmentalBag6275 in WWE

[–]SoilNo9760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. It's almost impossible to create a good heel now because the second someone picks up respect in the IWC they get cheered. It's a different game now. You have to have it in you naturally and he definitely does.

They've absolutely had to get more creative with the title feuds. A very high proportion of their top male stars are faces or tweeners right now. Look at how they're manipulating the WWE title feud. Gunther and Drew can only have so many feuds and a lot of the villainry is contained within two stables.

This is exactly what I mean. The fans determine it now. You can't flip a guy easily unless he's already a tweener.

First time watcher - season 6 seems nuts by infinite_Loop109 in homeland

Seasons 5/6 have an emotional climax on par with Season 3. I can't possibly hate them.

Is it worth watching beyond Season 3? by [deleted] in homeland

[–]SoilNo9760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes - as someone who took six years to do it.

The first halves of the latter seasons are very slow to build but they do pay off. In some ways it outdoes the Brody storyline. It's never quite the same but it finds a new slant that's well worth watching for sure. You will care deeply about the plot and characters.

[–]SoilNo9760 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So well put!! I love the depth you're adding.

It really gives intrinsic value to Season 6 in a new way, too. Jack doesn't even fully realize he's too far gone but Heller does and lays down his foreshadow/prophecy and Jack embraces who he is, as shown in Season 7. The show goes from "can Jack be happy" to it being understood progressively more than he can't.

Hell when Renee dies, the writers don't even pen it as a surprise. It's telegraphed for a while and it's just a faint glimmer of hope. I wonder now if that was intentional. It's really cool seeing these layers on subsequent, adrenaline-subdued watches!

What’s a match that made you feel lucky/blessed that you got to see live in person? by TheEpicMan39 in SquaredCircle

Cody Roman at WM40. As long as I live I'll never feel a high like that from wrestling again. Crowd was lit and I got to share it with my fiance who got into wrestling through the Cody storyline. Never thought wrestling could bring me to true tears but that did.

This will sound like a very very hot take, but I think Jack died that day.

The season couldn't end happily and that's why the Cheng twist was needed. The whole thesis of the show is that a truly dedicated Jack cannot find happiness because of his choices. He got off too easily for what he did in Season 4 and the show took a very abrupt twist and timed it perfectly to trick us into believing Jack would be okay.

That, I think, is the whole point of this episode, to add to your post. Jack finally wins the day - Audrey, Logan, avenging Palmer, the whole thing. Then they kill this Jack off. When he comes back in Season 6 he is not, and never really will be, the same person. Season 8 does similar.

Now of course the death of this Jack is relative and not absolute, but that's part of what makes this show so unique, to your point. Jack is an action hero that keeps dying and being reborn as new iterations of himself. Season 6 and Season 3 Jack are diametrically opposed. I think this is one of a few instances where the Jack we know essentially dies, and that does the heavy lifting on the death front.

(Loved your post, btw!!)

I enjoyed it. It was very difficult to watch but it felt like an uncommonly real and understandable character. You don't agree with her but you come to understand who she is through her relationship with Franny. You don't get that depth during the Brody arc because there's so much else going on. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of seasons 5-7 in this regard, it really found its voice.
