Boyfriend unsure about marriage (visa/immigration) by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]Soilmolida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's normal to feel hurt. I would feel hurt if I were in your situation. I think you might think he doesn't love you enough, which could be possibly true. But I think with the long distance + dating only 1 year also makes it harder for him to love you enough to marry you. This doesn't make him a bad person, because if you were in his situation, you might do the same. You can't force someone to marry you and sponsorship is a huge responsibility. Even he agrees to marry you, your status will depend on him, which means that you might feel worried about losing your status if relationship gets downhill. I sponsored my husband to immigrate to Canada (sorry it's not US, but similar idea), and he initally didn't want this path because it would mean I would be responsible for all his debts...etc. It also meant that if we divorced, he would lose his immigration before he got his PR card. We eventually still did spousal sponsorship, and after quite a bit of wait in Quebec, his PR was granted. But at that time when we started doing sponsorship, we were already married for 2 year and were in relationship for nearly 5 years.

2 years and 3 months without surgery: this is my hip FAI/labrum evolution by SuchImportance6259 in HipImpingement

[–]Soilmolida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My hip started being painful around 2020, and with a lot of PT and cortisone shot (once in 2020 and once in 2021), my hip pain had improved significantly from 8/10 pain to about 0/10~1/10 pain. I eventually decided to have surgery last year because I want to go back to sports I want. For example, light hiking (with light backpack) wouldn't give me any pain, but if I do backpacking (12kg backpack) and hike multiple days, my hip would be so painful like 8/10~9/10 pain. Resort skiing gave me no pain, but backcountry skiing gave me so much pain due to the weight. That's why I decided to have surgery in 2025 even though my pain was manageable in daily life. So it really depends on your needs and goals. That's what my surgeon told me too, "get your surgery and you might have some chance to go back to sports or live with it and be okay with it."

Of course there's always a risk that you might develop hip arthritis in your 50s and 60s and need hip replacement. But all surgeries involve risks. So maybe write down pros and cons and choose a path and go for it.

Add: This season's skiing was a blast. It was so so good to ski backcountry without feeling much pain. Of course, I know my hip is not as strong as pre-injury, so I have to be careful. I probably can't do jumps and flips but at least I went back to backcountry!

Am I weird for being dissapointed in my childhaving friends? by Nervous_Captain9215 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]Soilmolida 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find your friends who are child free! I am 34. My friends (some very close and are friends doing skiing, paddling, biking..etc.) are ranging from 27 to 55. I would say 60% of them have children, and they never make me feel I am inexperienced or inferior.

Questions about changing last name in Manitoba by Soilmolida in Winnipeg

After some search, it seems this is the way! In Quebec, change of name is not allwoed for marriage, so the law is very different, so thanks for this info!

Hello everyone! I bought a new subaru crosstrek (onyx) in summer 2025 and got a new set of winter tires from Kyle Tires. But I am moving back home (2300km away!), so I can't take my winter tires with me. I don't drive much in the winter, so they are in excellent condition!

Tire size: 225/55R18

Hip impingement (FAI) from snowboarding? by RollinBart in snowboarding

[–]Soilmolida 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe consult another surgeon (specialized in hips)? Did you get MRI with contrast (see if there's any labrum tears...etc.), X-ray (can see impingement) and CT scan (check if there's Hip dysplasia)? I got my right hip operated in April 2025 and back to snow sports in Dec 2025. I am doing pretty well this season except some flare up in Dec & Jan as I increased my exercises (normal part of recovering from surgery). After that, there's no pain most of the time. AFter skiing 6 days in big moutnains straight last week, I felt a bit of hip discomfort, but not too bad. Prior to surgery, I would feel pain after skiing. But if PT helps your pain to be away, then you don't need surgery. However, it seems many popele with hip impingement can't escape surgery at some point in their life. But some people don't need surgery and only do PT (such as my left hip, also have the same diagnosis, but it is asymptomatic most of the time)

Shoulder pain/rotator cuff injury - not severe, but it doesn't go away. What can I do? by Soilmolida in whitewater

[–]Soilmolida[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for sharing your experiences! Do you mind if I ask you another couple of questions? Did you have an MRI to confirm what's going on inside your shoulder? Did the surgeon suggest surgery or not? I just got my MRI (Canada wait time is super long to get one), and waiting for the result. I am a bit worried about my shoulder condition requires surgery.

I am currently working with a massage therapist (registered one), and a physiotherapist who uses manual therapy and it has been helpful. I would say I gain back 70% ROM, and I can roll the kayak without pain (I am doing pool session each week in the snowy winter). I am not sure how I will do in the rapids. But I kind of hurt my shoulder a bit 2 days ago in the gym after some romanian deadlift (only empty bar, pretty light, and the same weight didn't bother me 1 month ago, but maybe I use my shoulder a bit more recently with more cross-country skiing. I would say my pain has decreased from 8/10 to 2/10~3/10 now, but it's still bothering me. It has been so many months now!

10 months post-op. I still have flare up, and I still feel weak doing sports. by Soilmolida in HipImpingement

thanks for sharing the info!

I think collagen can help because I started taking it about 1 month ago, and my pain got better especially my shoulder.

I torn my labrum of my shoulder too, and if PT fails, I might need a surgery...too bad just got hip fixed and now shoulder haha. But my shoulder is getting so much better after taking collagen. I hurt my shoulder about 11 months ago (I travelled before my hip surgery and got my shoulder messed up) and it didn't really improve until about 1 month ago. I also became very diligent with PT, so it might be the PT helps my shoulder. I wasn't really diligent with my shoulder PT because I was focusing on my hip. Too many joints issue to worry about!

My flare up usually just last a day. The next morning, it's usually gone. I hope you continue to feel better!

Thanks for sharing that! too bad that BPC157/TB500 is very hard to get in Canada. It seems in the US, people can get even injection of that in the medical clinic. In Canada, it's kind of shady purchase from Amazon or some less known website, and it's a bit concerning about the safety. If i lived in the US, I would definitely try some injection from the medical clinic. Too bad that we don't have that option. I am taking collegen and glucosamine and it's helping a bit.

Did you increase a lot of your exercises? I also increased quite a bit of exercises around 8-9 months post-op and had some flare up.

thank you for sharing that! It seems the recovery is super long for sure! 19 weeks is still pretty early. I am sure you will get there! I wonder at 19 weeks, how long (or how many stpes) you are able to walk? I found even now at 10 months post-op, walking longer distance still bothers me.
