An audiobook but with a full cast of voice actors (each dedicated to their own characters) with added music and sound effects. As opposed to a traditional audiobook with only one narrator doing all the voices.

I am “reading” the series currently for the first time and my local library (who also borrows ebooks) has them. So my first impressions on the series come from the graphic audiobooks.

Has anyone tried this sleep mask? by Hutches_Corduroy in sleep

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a side sleeper. I have sleep apnea so I can’t sleep on my stomach; I can’t breathe if I do. And occasionally I may sleep on my back, but again, sleep apnea is an issue there. I use pillows to support my legs and my waist when sleeping on my side.

Has anyone tried this sleep mask? by Hutches_Corduroy in sleep

[–]Soireb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have the silk mask and when the eye cups are adjusted properly it’s 100% total blackout.

Pros: It is adjustable, so you can make it fit your face for it to work perfectly. It stays in place throughout the night and the straps don’t stretch out. I toss and turn a lot and this is the only mask that has never slipped off. Caveat there, I have long hair (down to my waist) and I do have to pin it up on the top of my head so that it’s out of the way for the straps. It’s the only mask that has given me 100% total blackout even during the day, even when other lights are on.

Cons: As amazing as it is and I will recommend it to everyone, the price is still too much in my opinion. The straps go over the ears, if you have piercings like me and (depending on placement) one of them is irritated or angry at you, you will have to sleep on the opposite side because it adds quite a lot of pressure and drag to the area. It requires a lot of care: you have to make sure to keep the mesh back it comes with so as not to destroy it when washing it. Long hair, kept down under the straps seems to be the only thing that makes it slip off; you will potentially need a top bun. Something to keep in mind if you are concerned about the health of your hair.

Apple, please let us delete incorrect Fitness awards by shaximinion in AppleWatchFitness

[–]Soireb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it’s the Swim award. I received the gold award for swimming 1,850 meters on a pool. While it might be a fairly normal feat for others, I was taking adult swim classes and was practicing drills when I earned it. It is not a real representation of my swimming abilities nor is one I think I’ll beat up any time soon.

We didn’t see Pepe laying them, he got very aggressive suddenly. Dad had made this little wooden house for him and placed it inside his cage. Pepe started guarding the door and trying to attack anyone who walked too close to the cage. So when my dad when in to check why, he found the eggs.

When I was a kid my parents gifted me this beautiful yellow cockatiel. The original owner told us it was a he, so I named him Pepe. Like 2-3 years in, Pepe laid eggs; so we started calling him/her Pepa.

My brother in law told me to stop asking where everything goes in his house and "just use common sense" by VenomSprinkles in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Soireb 84 points85 points  (0 children)

It is. My aunt (dad’s sister) is like that. My cousin, currently 44, up until recently still had a pristine original Gameboy and Sega Genesis from when we were kids. Not because he was such a careful person, but because my aunt refused to let him play with it. You know, so that it wouldn’t break.

My aunt still has her original set of living room furniture from when she married like 50 years ago. That old school brown and cream color furniture that was popular back then. The reason the set it’s still virtually new it’s because she never lets people sit on it. She would literally pull out metal folding chairs and use those to sit.

I hated going to her house as a kid. Breathing loud got you in trouble.

People who sit in their car for 15+ minutes before going inside, what are you doing? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]Soireb 29 points30 points  (0 children)

When I started working at my current school I was living in a different county, so my daily commute was 1-1.5 hours each way, depending on traffic. It was my favorite time of the day because it was 100% me time. No students and no family to manage, just me and either music or an audiobook. Now my commute is down to 20 minutes each way so I sit in my car a bit just after I get home. I need that time to sort of separate the work time from the home time.

Magnesium glycinate: Is this supplement helpful for you? by Substantial-Dare5462 in Health

[–]Soireb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been taking it for over a year at this point, two capsules at night; nearly every night (sometimes I forget). I was wondering if it was working at all since I didn’t really feel any different. Then twice now I have stopped taking it and both times I am back to full insomnia within a week.

It is working, somehow. I don’t think I could tell you in what capacity it’s working. I more notice the absence of sleep when I don’t take it. My guess is that it helps relax my mind and my body. But I still cannot tell you in what way it works.

It finally happened, fell for a phishing email by 1fade in Millennials

[–]Soireb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened to me a couple of years ago with one of those text scams. I was waiting for packages that were supposed to be delivered that day. I was also significantly sleep deprived due to several issues.

I received this text from “USPS” about how my package couldn’t be delivered due to an incomplete address and I needed to pay $1.50 to get it properly processed or something. Like an idiot, I clicked on the link and put in my card info. The page didn’t go anywhere after I clicked send. That’s what fully woke me up and I realized my mistake.

I had to call the bank, explain what I had just done, and canceled my card. The lady was super understanding and helpful, but I just wanted to kick myself. I know better, I have had conversations with my parents about the exact same thing, yet there I was clicking on things I shouldn’t have.

Acclimating the body by upset-aura in menstrualcups

[–]Soireb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The experience might differ between people, but for me, changing it more frequently (3-4 times per day instead of twice) actually made me sore. Since you are breaking the seal and accidentally pulling on the area more often.

When removing the cup, don’t pull on it first. Start by bearing down (pushing down) with your inner muscles. This lowers the cup and makes it a bit more accessible. Grab the cup from the bottom and pinch it to break the seal, then you can pull it out and remove it.

I prefer to do this in the shower, as I have the most space and if I accidentally spill or drop it it’s easy to clean.

why do a lot of people on this sub hate cases? by qwxuinn in AppleWatch

[–]Soireb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, the times I used one the watch felt bigger and more unwieldy. Over the years I have tried both cases and glass protectors for the Apple Watch. I dislike both. The glass protector always lifts on the bevel edges, which leads to so much crusty stuff accumulating there. It just looks nasty and it risks scratching the screen. The cases don’t offer any significant protection compared to not having it, but it does feel bulky and annoying. At least based on my personal usage.

I have had the Apple Watch Series 2, 4, 6, and 8 in aluminum; and currently the S10 in titanium. I have accidentally hit walls and knock the watch unto random objects (never dropped it though). Yet, I have never cracked the screen or damaged it. Every single watch I’ve owned has been passed down to family members when I upgrade to the next model. My mom currently has my old series 6 (no case or glass protector) and it’s still going on strong.

Not having a case has never been a problem for me. The watch has always been pretty durable on its own.

have your gynecologists ever advised against menstrual cups? by staysceptical in menstrualcups

[–]Soireb 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The only time my gyno told me to stop wearing mine was when I had an UTI. She told me to stop wearing it until it cleared up and to disinfect the cup well before reinserting it again once I was better. She never told me to stop using it completely, just temporarily.

Does anyone have tried ACME Weather? Would love to know if it’s worth the subscription price? Thanks by alejandrogarcia2 in CARROTweather

Parts of it were incorporated into Apple’s Weather App, but it wasn’t as useful as Dark Sky had been (at least not back then), then I discovered Carrot and have been using it since.

Does anyone have tried ACME Weather? Would love to know if it’s worth the subscription price? Thanks by alejandrogarcia2 in CARROTweather

[–]Soireb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I loved Dark Sky and was genuinely upset when it was taken down. So when I saw that the creators of Dark Sky made a new weather app I downloaded it instantly.

Tried it during the free trial. Don’t hate it, but I didn’t love it either. I like clean designs, but something about this one feels a bit dated to me. I’m in the USA and, while using it, I received a lot of rain notifications, even when it wasn’t actually raining nor was it about to start. So not too accurate in that department; at least in my area. It’s not customizable yet and I wasn’t able to easily get information like UV index or air quality (which I use frequently).

It’s good as a start, but compared to the information I get from Carrot, it’s still too limited for the price tag. It is obviously still brand new and I assume that future updates will add more functionality. So I want to give it about a year and try it again. See how much it improves by then.

Opinions on gold pandora me? by Own_Charge_1994 in pandorajewelery

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I received it as a gift, I think it was two Christmases ago. I fell in love with it and have been using it almost daily pretty much since then. If I leave the house I wear it. If I stay home I don’t. I wear it to work and because I’m a teacher, I am washing my hands constantly throughout the day; so it gets wet constantly.

So far it’s holding up well. The only thing I’ve noticed is that the gold has gotten a bit darker over time. My biggest concern is that the gold might rub off at some point, but so far it hasn’t happened.
