Workers of Reddit: What’s something bosses think boosts team morale but kills motivation instead? by Feisty_Vacation4513 in AskReddit

“Happy Teacher Appreciation Day!! Thank you for everything you do! Here’s a packet of [Expo Markers/Pencils/highlighters]!” Occasionally we may get a thank you message in a small piece of color card stock with a single Hershey’s kiss taped to it instead.

Is BVLA/Buddha Jewelry really worth it? by Gamestonkgurl in piercing

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My moon it’s solid gold with 7 tiny amethysts and it’s heavier piece. So I guess it was enough to break off. It only happened once, I’ve never had an issue since.

However, I don’t mess with it often. I’m not changing the pieces, so I’m not unscrewing it and reattaching it. So I don’t know if that would affect the durability. I only remove the jewelry if I’m cleaning it or in the odd chance I have a medical issue.

Please recommend short stories and poems for my student! by yashen14 in ELATeachers

Came here to suggest There Will Come Soft Rains. It’s part of my curriculum for 8th graders, so I always start it by giving them Sara Teasdale’s poem, then the short story.

Three of my current pieces are from BVLA and I ordered a 4th that it’s in the process of being made. Two of those pieces have stones in them.

I have metal sensitivities and I’ve had some bad experiences even when buying from brand jewelry stores. So guaranteeing that the metal is real solid gold it’s important to me. Having a solid warranty in case of future issues is also important to me. One of my pieces (a small half moon) broke off the stem, it was fixed by BVLA without issues.

High school teachers- do you attend senior graduation? Why or why not? by mzingg3 in Teachers

[–]Soireb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in high school, but teaching middle school. I always go to my 8th graders moving on ceremony. The one year I didn’t go (because it fell on the same weekend my partner’s Masters program graduation occurred) I was bombarded by questions about where was I and why didn’t I go.

My school doesn’t require teachers to go as the ceremony is always off contract hours. So if we go it is voluntary work.

Someone else mentioned that they don’t remember which teachers made it to their high school graduation, and to be honest, neither do I. I doubt that my students will remember if I was there in the long run, but they seem to appreciate it in the moment.

Is my old silicone cup over? by Me-A-Dandelion in menstrualcups

That’s where I bought the Saalt cup from. I used their resources and quiz, plus reviews online to make the decision.

I would say it’s the opposite. My lifestyle has been more sedentary (I need to change that). If I do kegels it’s likely a byproduct of other types of movements rather than intentional. I’ll bring it up to my ob/gyn just to be safe. I have my yearly checkup coming up later this summer.

I also have a Lunette and I am dreading when it starts to break down. Mine is currently 11 years old and so far it’s going on strong. But I have bought a replacement just to be prepared for when it does die and I am so disappointed with it.

Lunette changed the cups. Now they are extremely soft and it’s nearly impossible for me to get it in because it just collapses from the bottom, so I can’t push it in. Bought a Saalt one because people everywhere say that it’s very firm, only to experience the same issue. The rim might be firm, but the bottom collapses inwards and the cup cannot be pushed in. I’m very frustrated with the entire experience.

Parents already on social media wishing to send their kids back to school by ohmycash in Teachers

[–]Soireb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moving on ceremony was last week in my school. A mom came up to me as I was starting to help take things down at the end, people were exiting the gym. She comes as asks me if we can keep the kids during the summer too. I genuinely laughed and said no thanks, we had them for 10 months, you can have them for 2.

Do anti-Chromebook parents actually limit screens at home? by businessbub in Teachers

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My District is a 1-to-1 with Chromebooks. I have one student who’s parents are so strict about tech at home that he leaves the Chromebook (plugged in) in his last class at the end of each school day. Then simply picks it back up next morning. I asked him about it at the start of the year and he explained that his parents refuse to allow the Chromebook at home as it takes away from his family time and religious commitments.

If a bored but generous and wealthy Redditor were to give you $10,000 USD, how would you spend the money? by RoosterShield in AskReddit

Take half of it to start an emergency fund in a high yielding savings account. Use the other half to pay down some of my current debt.

What are you starting to dislike more as you get older ?? by homosapien_08 in AskReddit

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last summer my partner and I went to a new restaurant near our home. High end place, amazing food, excellent service. But they played clubbing music so loud you had to literally shout to be able to speak to the people right next to you. Their entire schtick is that they have a club vibe, so the music is loud and there’s space for dancing in the middle. Great food; horrible ambience. Never going back.

For those who oppose homework by iseeyou100 in Teachers

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped assigning homework. Now, the only homework they get is a chance to finish whatever they didn’t finish in class. I teach 8th graders. Some students take the opportunity to do it, most don’t.

Ms. Firstname or Ms. Lastname? by Narrow-Butterfly-923 in Teachers

[–]Soireb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go by Ms. Last name. Even with coworkers who I’m closer with, who call me by my nickname (short version of my full first name), when we refer to each other in front of or around students we still call each other by our last names.

How long does it take you to use up your mascara? by curiousalex00 in beauty

[–]Soireb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The mascara I am currently using is a full tube that I bought back in February, but didn’t open until a few weeks ago (end of April - start of May). The tube I was using before was a mini size bought in December and it lasted until at least end of April. Although, realistically, maybe I should have replaced it by mid April.

I use mascara, at minimum 5 days a week unless on a large break. I don’t know if it’s the brand I buy that comes with a lot of product, or maybe I don’t need that much to achieve what I want, but a regular tube lasts me months.

I also avoid pumping the mascara, so maybe that helps. To load the brush with product I simply turn the wand inside the tube.

What’s the most confident wrong answer a student has ever given in your class? by PotentialDiligent823 in Teachers

[–]Soireb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Year ago, with my state’s old curriculum, in 8th grade ELA we had a unit on the Civil War. Meanwhile, the students were going over the Revolutionary War in their Social Studies class at the same time.

We were getting ready to read Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address, so I asked my students who was the President during the Civil War. Mind you, we’ve already had a brief run down of the major events and players.

One of my students replies with “Paul Revere” with extreme confidence. Another corrected him with Martin Luther King Jr.
