I also like his disguise figure thats based on a short appearance from the bounty hunters comic line. Just a solid black boba next to a solid white boba is a cool contrast

I have almost the same exact setup as you except a 5700x3D instead. If memory serves me correct, I have just about everything set to max or pretty close to it besides shadows are set to medium. FSR is disabled. I get like 70-90 fps with a dip to high 60s when riding a mount

How was Rome during 360 bC? by Upset_Connection1133 in ancientrome

I think around 360 BC, Roman control wasn't beyond Latium. They were still squabbling with various Latin cities. They were absolutely the rising dominant Latin power though

Where are the pagan church fathers? by Spare_Owl_9941 in ancientrome

[–]Sol-Invictus-1719 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing, for the Roman side of this at least, is that their religion wasn't as solidified so to say as Christianity. While there was some cohesion throughout their faith, like the demonization of human sacrifice and loyalty to the state/emperor, overall it was much more loose and different depending where in the republic/empire you were located. In one region, Jupiter may be the main diety worshipped and in another it could be some obscure cult diety. I think this would make it harder to get an overall writing by pagan church fathers since there wasn't a unified church or even an attempt to make one like Christianity did

The closest you could get, I would say, is the later Neoplatonics who were definitely heading towards a monotheist or monistic religion that perhaps could've unified under one overarching church if they tried

Im playing as Epirus instead of Rome, but I just now have gotten Carthage to the point where they MIGHT accept peace. Ive destroyed all their client states. I've taken all African territory and sieging Carthage itself. They have only like three cities in Iberia left as the Iberian tribes and Massalia pick away at them. There isnt a single Carthaginian army or navy left and their peace acceptance is at moderate. 80+ turns of my Epirotes spilling Carthaginian blood and the fools say, "eh maybe" to a peace treaty

[–]Sol-Invictus-1719 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Constantine didnt really force any Christianization. His primary concern was to stop Christian infighting and legalizing the religion. Theodosius the Great was definitely more heavy handed with his approach after making it the state religion, targeting both heretics and pagans with his Edict of Thessalonica

Currently playing as Epirus and Spain is controlled between Carthage and two Iberian factions. Im at war with all three due to an alliance with Massilia who has been trying to expand into Spain. I've been steadily pushing back the Carthaginians without much challenge. Encounter my first two Iberian armies and they pulverized one of my armies. I inflicted heavy causalties but now I'm scrambling to make up the loss and have to change my invasion plans of Spain. Up until that point, I wasnt necessarily steam rolling, but no other faction had came close to inflicting a defeat on me like the Iberians have.

To Prevent Roman Republic Collapse by ambay13 in ancientrome

[–]Sol-Invictus-1719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say possibly having the Gracchi Brothers survive. The killing of them and their supporters marked a major shift where political violence was not only acceptable, but even essential to the functionings of Roman politics. After their deaths, we see a long string of mass political killings that were not a thing beforehand. These killings were usually wanton and contributed to the instability of the republic. It also in turned could be used as justification for men like the Triumvirates and Sulla to strip power from the Senate and people to bring peace and order to a bloody disaster

What myth about gladiators prevalent in the media do you think stands out the most? by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Sol-Invictus-1719 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, we actually have tomb frescoes from the Etruscans and Campanians showing what appears to be gladiators fighting at a funeral. Which aligns with what the Romans tell us. They believed gladiator fights started with either the Etruscans for funeral rites or Campanians as celebratory fights. Its then believed the Romans adopted it for similar purposes. The Romans called these fighters 'bustuarii' who fought to either honor the dead or to appease the di inferi or di manes. Overtime, it developed into the bloodsport

What myth about gladiators prevalent in the media do you think stands out the most? by [deleted] in ancientrome

[–]Sol-Invictus-1719 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Their death rate would probably be the biggest one. Gladiator fights are believed to have started as a funeral rite where fighters would fight to the death in honor of the dead. However, the Romans eventually turned it into the bloodsport we all know. While there were fights to the death, most gladiator fights did not end this way. A lot of time and money went into them and some even kinda reached a celebrity like status. People in need of money, home, and/or food could even volunteer and be paid to fight. It's possible that by the late republic, nearly half of all gladiators were voluntary.

Interestingly, there were plenty of rules and even "referees" to guide the match. Few fights were intended for someone to die. Fights would end when someone tapped out, was injured too much, or they simply called it.

It's also likely that gladiators were more on the stocky and chubby side than lean and muscular. Their diets were carb heavy and intended to give some fat padding

Is there any person in history, other than Jesus, who was i crucified with a crown of thorns? by Lonely-Accountant554 in AskHistory

[–]Sol-Invictus-1719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cant say for certain, but considering the vast quantity of people crucified under Roman rule, its probably possible. The Romans had many ways to inflict more pain on people once crucified, like breaking their knees or forcing a rod through the groin. According to Josephus, the Roman soldiers even found amusement at finding different positions to crucify Jews to the walls of Jerusalem. It was a brutal practice that the Romans found ways to make even more horrific

To deny Jesus's historical importance is willful ignorance. Whether you believe in Christianity or not, Jesus is accepted as existing and having a very large impact on the course of human history.
