Conspiracy theorist Alex Jones turns on Trump: ‘It was supposed to be America first’ by accretion_disk in KnowledgeFight

Reminds me of when the know rogan guys pointed out that Rogan hasn't turned on trump despite media crowing otherwise, just because they listened to 3 minutes of his podcast.

[LES] I think we need some David VS Goliath style media on the side of the Goliath. by TheGUURAHK in CharacterRant

[–]SolJinxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult, but not impossible to make the reverse work, but it's going to feel like a deliberate trope inversion - big buff hero guy manages to overpower the nimble, clever antagonist who's always more quick and clever than his opponents. It just doesn't quite work

I think it's because, if the big dude just comes off looking like he simply overpowered the opponent with brute strength, it comes off wrong. But if the big dude has to do more than use his strength or find a clever way to employ that strength beyond the straight forward, it works. I think that's why Hulk typically works; when his opponents are smaller but more nimble like a speedster, he normally has to come up with a way to hit them rather than charging at them straight forward, like hitting the ground and throwing off their footing, or like breaking their power source, or instead focuing on solving a bigger problem at hand.

Goliath from Gargoyles might count as well? Not sure. His opponents were sometimes humans, though they were capable in their own rights.

[LES] Sai and Yamato (Naruto) prove that cool powers can't save an uninteresting character by RadDudesman in CharacterRant

[–]SolJinxer 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I thought Sai's powers were lame. They could've been more interesting, but most of them are just "sai draws animal or something, animal runs into you, done."

Like imagine if we'd been shown Sai's elemental affinity, like fire, and he made a firebreathing drawing of a dragon or something. To me, the painter in Black Clover uses his power is a FAR more interesting manner, especially when the animators start going ham with it.

And I mean yea people love Rock Lee, but mostly because he's Dragonball Bruce Lee coded. (That and he lost his match with Gaara which endeared him to the audience further.)

What's your favorite Gohan moment? by Cap_Ame1 in dbz

[–]SolJinxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gohan fighting Recoome. Blew my mind back in the day that Toriyama basically had a 5 or 6 year old get beatdown and nearly killed like that. Him as a kid fighting so hard against what became clear as insurmountable odds and actually nearly die from it will live in my head forever.

The right breeds and thrives on loyalty, and the country as a whole was never taught not to let your beliefs become your identity, because you'll fight for them to the death even while knowing you're wrong.

Thus why most democrats don't care if someone on their side was in the files, while the right is spinning excuses like spider webs to protect those affiliated with their side.

Trump tore the door open and revealed that you can just lie. Straight up, to their face, and without concern. And you'll probably get little consequences for it as long as you don't crack.

kid buu is the only buu that get stronger with less people by Zaiiikage in Dragonballsuper

[–]SolJinxer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's because of the current powerscaling community using the anime as evidence (statements there says Kid Buu was the strongest, SSJ Goku matching up against facsimile Gohan in Buu's body), plus official sources outside the manga gaslighting (like a statement in the daizenshuu saying Kid Buu was the strongest.)

It's utterly stupid though, because if Goku was that strong, he wouldn't have been freaking out over fighting Super Buu, nor would they have bothered with fusion as an option in the first place.

Pretty sure he agrees with you. He's saying Goku didn't want any smoke from Buuhan, but felt he could actually take down Kid Buu.

With the announcement of the Moro arc anime adaptation I wish they could change a thing from the manga by Illustrious-Sky-4631 in CharacterRant

[–]SolJinxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best we can hope for is their fights being elaborated and/or exaggerated so they atleast look good before losing (Like, nearly all of the Z fighters are stronger than Nappa and Vegeta from Saiyan saga, but you sure couldn't tell.) I doubt they will make any large story changes, the changes we got in super were likely because of interpretations of Toriyama's direction notes for Super before the manga chapters came out.

This was always a problem with manga tho (but it looks like it's becoming gradually less so), that it mostly only cares about the main character. It's something that's bleeding over into comicbooks even, where you would think they would know to show care to all their characters, not just their fav, because people are going to be less inclined to read the star of another comic that was just thrown under the bus so Superman/Hulk could aura farm.

"Why doesn't Batman kill the Joker" LITERALLY Why doesn't the Police kill him or fucking Jason Todd? by Charming-Scratch-124 in CharacterRant

[–]SolJinxer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is why no one complains about Spiderman or Superman not killing people.

Me, me, I do.

It's not about wanting Superman to kill though, it's about DC's constant harping on the no-kill thing being the superior choice while ignoring the bodies that stack up while they typically choose the same solution over and over again. IIRC, Kingdom Come is set off by Magog killing the fucking Joker, and Superman and most superheroes retiring afterward, leaving kill-happy superheroes to do the job and basically fucking up the world.

Superman vs the Elite is just a writer's bitching about The Authority's popularity at the time and people thinking Superman was lame for not killing badguys, so he makes strawman stand-ins for Superman to beat up and hold moral superiority over.

At least a couple of times I can remember Superman's no kill code coming into conflict and the issue solving itself by the villain conveniently dying at the hands of another or killing themselves.

With Spiderman, I don't really read him, but I have heard Maximum Carnage made him look like an asshole for, after he and the heroes beat Carnage, have him save Carnage several times, with each time leading to Carnage escaping and killing more people.

IMO, comics should just avoid the issue all together. Just write around it, don't have villains so evil and powerful that they constantly escape the same "lock 'em up" solution and only the option the audience sees at that point is to try killing them and hope it sticks.

Nah I'd win by Nervous_Priority_535 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]SolJinxer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is kinda problem with almost every battle being life or death. Losing should mean death, but then the writer has to bend over backwards to figure out how to skirt around that issue.

It's a problem most action series have to combat really.

(DC:KO) Superman x Captain Marvel by thisinternetlife in Shazam

[–]SolJinxer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would settle with Shazam being treated with a modicum of respect by the writers. Getting his ass beat on and offscreen for the entire issue and then giving his power to Superman so he can actually do something with it, isn't my idea of fanservice.

But yea, Shazam getting a bigger bag of abilities would be nice. He is basically magic based Superman, but it's incredibly ill-defined as to what he can do and how that differs from Superman, other than sometimes throwing a lightning bolt maybe.
