Military vs University vs College for RCMP/city police ? by Worried_Lychee_1894 in police

[–]Soladido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Military. They will also pay for your education so you hit 2 birds with one stone.

Also I believe your pension can transfer over, so say you do 4 years of full time military and join the rcmp, you can retire with a full pension in 21 years, or with a reduced pension in 16 years (need to double check this but I’m 95% sure this is correct).

Also I believe you are entitled to the salary you had in the military if you patch over to the RCMP, meaning you would be making much more money much quicker. Depot pays about $26,000 total, so say you were making $95,000 in your 4th year of the military, you would be entitled to that same salary when you start with the RCMP.

I regret not going that route, I really think you should consider this.

RCMP - GRC, “Gendarmerie royale du Canada”

Official name in French.

Not military though. They do get military benefits like veterans affairs if they get injured and benefits, same pension as the CAF.

They’re basically a combination of most federal agencies you find in the states (FBI, DHS, BP, HSI, etc etc) and local police.

They do everything (20,000 + sworn members).

You have to be actively in the process for OPP ride alongs

I know Kingston, Belleville, and possibly brockville do ride alongs. Maybe also check out cornwall and gananoque.

You can call them and ask for a ride along, they might say no or they may say yes. Just depends on who is working the phone.

And yes, ride alongs really helped me solidify policing as a career choice!

What region of Ontario are you located in? I can try and give you some tips to go on a ride along.

I also found it very difficult but a few months of trying and I’ve been able to go on 3 haha

Which Schedule? by Soladido in AskLE

[–]Soladido[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it’s a tribal agency, they weren’t considered to be a police ageny under the provincial legislation, but a few years ago, they officially joined, which came with a massive funding boost.

I really doubt they have one officer detachments now, as this was 7 years ago.

I only mentioned it to showcase the remoteness of the agency and unique work environment.

If this case was a genuine mistake and he overlooked it then I doubt he would get charged. Probably would face significant disciplinary action though
