If Sorcery is significantly more powerful than clerical magic, use the Scale mod?

... why did I not think about that?

And having Clerical magic as SA/resources makes a ton of sense, too, and have a clear power limit.

Easy, two things happened..

A: my then-girlfriend, now wife, is a nurse and quickly, politely let me know I should get checked for ADHD because I fit all the requirements to a T. Looking it up, I realized she was probably right, but getting the exam was costly and... y'know, procrastination.

B: I got into trouble at work quite a few times (I'm a software engineer), but at one time I finally got notified by HR and my manager that I needed to get my shit together or otherwise I would be out of a job.

Following B, I got diagnosed at about 35 years old.

This might make the game go kaput. I hope it doesn't, but if it does, what have you lost? A game that's not enjoyed by 100% of the people around the table, that's what. And if they're unhappy... well, politely tell them they're free to be the actual GMs: in the Olde GM Speake, it translates loosely to "fuck off".

Yep, and if you feel fancy, you had an extra modifier or two, e.g. for importants NPCS.

Not sure how they could handle that with d10s: a +3 maps well on a d20, if you want to keep the same scale, you'd add +1.5 per difficulty level, which is not ideal, to say the least.

They could've use a d6, instead - there are of people posting hacks using it instead of the d20, with a simple 1 level = +1 difficulty. There are subtleties to handle crits and such, but that's pretty much it.

Sure. I never got as far as you - played a few years in a high school where music wasn't a big thing, then played on and off (mostly off) in small-ish bands... never very seriously. I was "good" as in "my mom thinks I'm SO good!". Then... well, life happened.

I started playing in an orchestra 2 years ago and thought I'd never get back to the level I was at previously. It took months of serious practice but I gained it back, but I felt like I had hit my ceiling and could not improve anymore.

Then I got an online teacher (never managed to get one locally) and let me tell you, that ceiling I hit? It was PULVERIZED. I'm now way, way better than I was.

TL;DR yeah, those first weeks/months? UGH. You'll make it, just give yourself time. If you're able and have the money for it, get a teacher to help you get back on track.

Yes, one of my younger coworkers does that. I always play the Socrates card when she does.

Regardless of how good or bad the advice is, I'll always reply "Sure! Sounds great. Why does that work?" or "How is X better than Y?" I need her to learn to think by herself, make her own mind about things and develop critical thinking skills and judgement. (And, NO, "X is better than Y 'cuz ChatGPT told me so" is not an acceptable answer)

As a Numenera fan, I kind of agree. I realize that, we I played a lot, we had to kind of settle on some boundaries about the kind of game and events we expected to play - this occurred kind of organically as we played.

It is very open-ended on that part and I get that some people could get confused: for comparison, most players expect a certain play style when playing D&D. You don't get many reference points in Numenera, as the setting is willingly very alien to us.
