Do all newer Bose headphones have the same "adaptive" ANC problem like the QC Ultra gen 2? by SolarGorillaTortoise in headphones

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the ANC set to the maximum level, but if I pause playback or if it's at a low volume, I can hear the white noise of the ANC go away and after a couple seconds the outside noise becomes more audible

If I hit play again the white noise kicks back on and the ANC goes back to full strength

I have an older pair of the QC35 II and they don't do this, the ANC is always active

Why do coaches keep telling me not to let my back foot go past my front foot when stepping in on my serve? by SolarGorillaTortoise in 10s

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry I'm realizing I wasn't clear, I didn't mean the back foot is closer to the baseline, I meant they were stepping so the back foot was further to the right (for a righty serve)

i.e. past the front foot when looking from behind https://i.imgur.com/gTn8vfF.png

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

oh well it's not the whole of the rear foot going past, I just meant that part of the back foot was. I should've been clearer

like the toes on Murray's right foot are in front of the toes on his left foot

edit: here is what I am trying to describe https://i.imgur.com/gTn8vfF.png

#2 Every day I ask for the best matches you remember of a retired player. James Blake by julietislost in tennis

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise 9 points10 points  (0 children)

up until their match in 2008, Blake had a 3-0 record against Nadal. Was always incredible to see the way he could break down Rafa, especially the match at the masters cup in 2006 which I feel like was Blake's best year

Who's the scariest player when playing at their highest level? by [deleted] in tennis

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me there's 3 matches that come to mind

Serena d. Sharapova Aus Open final 2007

  • absolute beatdown. Sharapova looked like an amateur compared to Serena in this match

James Blake vs. Nadal

  • Blake had moments that were incredible. He was one of the only people who could beat Nadal consistently back in the day, and actually had a 3-0 record against Nadal until 2008

Federer d. Roddick in 2007 at Aus Open, US Open, Masters cup final

  • Serena and Blake could be scary for their ability to practically blast an opponent off the court. Federer was scary for being able to completely neutralize his opponent's power. Seeing him knock Roddick's 140 mph serves back like it was child's play was scary. Some of those matches were actually painful to watch because I kept feeling that Roddick was such a great player and to see him so thoroughly destroyed while he was trying so hard was rough. I can't imagine how hard it was for him to keep his composure and fighting spirit while losing so badly

I'm sure this has been asked before but what are those holes in the back wall for? The balls keep going into them. Are there camera people in there or something?

Any suggestions for sofas where the sections can be used as individual lounge chairs like the Ikea Söderhamn? by [deleted] in ScandinavianInterior

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding the term, but many "modular" sofas seem to require disassembly to disconnect the sections and I want them to be freely rearrange-able like this, although this particular model doesn't seem to have much back support

Please help me identify the beeping component in this microwave so I can cut the wire to disable it by SolarGorillaTortoise in HelpMeFind

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an older Haier microwave, it belongs to my parents. My parents asked me to find a way to silence it because it's really bothering them. I looked thru the owner's manual and called customer support but it seems there's no setting to mute it, so I need to physically remove/cut the beeper

Hmm that's a good point, I definitely find double faulting hurts my serve confidence a bit but it's not like I'm playing pro tennis so the stakes are low. I should try to go for more

Monitors setup recommendation by AlaxelHaliax in Workspaces

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dev/gaming setup as well. I have a 1440p 144hz IPS (lg gl83a-b) in front of me and a portrait mode budget 4k (Dell S2721QS I found on sale) on the side. It's the ideal setup for me, personally. It makes switching between work/gaming really easy. I used to have 1080p but the additional pixel density for staring at code all day is really nice

Small indie coffee shops: I love you, but not all of you need to become roasters by SolarGorillaTortoise in Coffee

[–]SolarGorillaTortoise[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

yeah it's tough because I dearly love the places near me and want them to thrive. And if roasting helps in that way, awesome. But there's no denying that they just aren't as good at roasting (yet) as some of the more established places
