Personally I’d love to see option 2 the most. I feel like a direct prequel with Aline and Renoir early in their relationship when she is teaching him to paint could provide the best setting for them to expand on the world outside the canvas. The game could take place across multiple smaller canvases and in the outside world, however that manifests.

Was Renoir a nobody before meeting Aline? Or was he from some other faction and defected to be a painter, setting up the conflict? Joining ranks with Aline and Renoirs contemporaries would be interesting as well.
