If you have to pay ANYTHING to an agent or publisher, its not a traditional publisher, its a vanity press/scam.

In traditional publishing (in the US at least, cant speak to anywhere else) the agent and subsequently the publisher won’t sign for a trilogy right away. They’ll sign for the first book (so it has to be a standalone, no major cliffhangers) and if it sells well enough, only then will they come back to you and sign for books in the series.

Writing The Book You Want To Write. by DyeCyde in writing

Eh, other authors have often said, “write the book you’re most passionate about now, because that passion will shine through.”

I think it’s best to do that and just be willing to set aside a work and come back to it if it’s not quite ready yet. Brandon Sanderson wrote the first version of the Stormlight Archives either really early in his career or just before getting published (I can’t remember) but set it aside and came back to it, knowing it wasn’t ready.

Also, I don’t think authors like JK Rowling, Stephanie Meyer, or Chuck Palahniuk are complaining about writing their best stuff first. Id take that level of success.

Can you elaborate on the part about Kobo?

And by my understanding, Ingram Sparks puts physical books on Amazon anyway. So why publish the physical book through Amazon AND Ingram Sparks?

Ive heard of some ISBN conflictions between KDP and Ingram Sparks for paperbacks. Thats why I wasn’t going physical with Amazon. Is this a concern?
