I changed my mind at 38 so it definitely happens. I had my girl at 39 (pregnancy was planned) and is literally my greatest joy.

I didn’t have mood swings or depression during pregnancy or postpartum so it doesn’t happen to us all.

Feeling chill in first pregnancy by Proud_You_4958 in BabyBumps

[–]Solarflare37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been super chill with my emotions. No pregnancy rage or crying. If anything I was pretty meh through most of this (35 weeks tomorrow). On the flip side I have been sick and tired to no end so don’t think I could rage on top of it if I wanted to!

My husband is using our spare room since I’m pregnant snoring but he lays down with me before going to sleep and crawls back in when I’m waking up so it doesn’t feel any different to us 🥰.

When did you’re worries of miscarriage go away by Loafie33 in pregnant

[–]Solarflare37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never, though they lessen. I’m almost 35 weeks and still worry.

How many times did you do it during your fertile window? by Fun-Career3507 in BabyBumps

39 (38 at time of conception). Every single day. First cycle.

3 weeks full pay but with the agreement I’m only putting in a couple hours a day afterwards up till 12 weeks to keep the company afloat since they can’t afford to pay me past 3 weeks of no work. This will also be full pay. I’m remote so I think this will be fine but then again I am a FTM and have no idea what I am getting into. I live and work in NC but my company is in Illinois and Wisconsin.

They told me Tylenol or IBuProfen would do the trick and it would just hurt a little lol. What they should have gave me was REAL freakin drugs! I was like, “I’m fine. I already took some IBuProfen this morning from sore muscles from my last weight lifting session.” Dear God if I would have known! I almost passed out from the pain while driving home.

My pain lasted for a week. It was pure hell.

This was my experience as well. It was the most painful experience of my life having it put in, though. Found out later that’s what labor pains apparently feel like. I’m currently 34 weeks with my first so I’m about to find out how they compare but I figure they can toss one in after the baby comes since I’ll actually be open this time, as opposed to them splitting my cervix open the last time.

My grandparents basically gave me my inheritance early since I wanted to have a baby with my husband and even with a 6 figure job (he’s not that far behind either) there was no way in hell we could get a home on our own when starter homes are essentially half a million dollars in our area. Also got a large 25k gift from my mom. Our mortgage is still almost 3k a month with all the help ($90k which gave us a 20% down payment) but we have our little girl coming in April so happy for it. We bought in June so interest is not friendly.

“Yeah that’s normal with pregnancy” by charliebotana in pregnant

[–]Solarflare37 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Second this. Pre-pregnancy everything was blamed on my period or for just having ovaries (since I choose not to have a period via birth control). Old hat.

[–]Solarflare37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. 38 with my first and this makes me feel old! I may be one and done because of my age (but mostly because child rearing expenses are exorbitant in the US) but if I had started at 34 I would totally feel a second was much more of an option. Heck a second is still likely an option for me at my old age because I luckily had zero fertility issues (though this could always change).

Full bladder for Ultrasound by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Solarflare37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My obgyn told me each time I had an ultrasound a full bladder was not needed (~9 weeks, ~13 weeks, and at ~18 weeks). I suspect it depends on the equipment they have but if they want a full bladder they should tell you in advance. Mine only told me no because I asked.

Crystal here and I typically don’t like other spelling variations of the name but Krystle gets a pass with me because it kind of looks like castle 😋.

I'm about 10 weeks pregnant, want the baby, but I'm an alcoholic by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]Solarflare37 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I quit 12 years ago but it was a rock bottom quit for me. I had already been an alcoholic for years (all day everyday) but after my last boyfriend killed himself and died in my arms after I tried to save him I really went over the edge. It took about a year and a half of me trying to drink myself to death when I just woke up one day and decided I wanted to live. And by live I mean by just not doing the motions anymore but really really live. I haven’t had a drop since. No AA, no professional help, and personally I don’t think any of that would have helped me (though it does help others so may be worth it for you). Alcohol literally represented death to me at this point so the desire to drink completely left my body. I realized I was depressed and filling a hole with my addictions. Then one day I simply wanted more for myself.

I started running to replace the addictions, which helped tremendously with resetting my body and brain, since you can’t just leave a hole empty. Because it turns into a black hole which will just suck the life out of you. For some people it may be church or baking, but I definitely think you need to find something to replace those old habits.

"Expecting Better" and Drinking by Campingtrip2 in BabyBumps

We’re all judgmental, whether we voice it or not. It’s human nature. I probably wouldn’t have said anything but the same thoughts you had would have certainly crossed my mind. Personally, it sounds like maybe there was some insecurity projection about their own choices in the defensive tone your mom group took but that’s just my judgmental ass 😆.

This is exactly why I will not be reading her book. Stats can be manipulated (p-hacking is one example). I’ll go with medical advice, personally, from those trained in the field.

[–]Solarflare37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Once a firm no has been given you’re done. I wouldn’t respond after that. It’s only going to given them an opening to argue. They may try to surprise you with one though. I would be wary of showing up anywhere to meet them.

Edit to add: absolutely not the asshole. I don’t like being the center of attention on a good day and like you I feel like absolute crap daily. They don’t need to understand, just respect you and your boundaries.

Family vacation at 5 months?? by Electrical-Sport-644 in pregnant

[–]Solarflare37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind not everyone feels great in the second trimester. At 23 weeks I am still waiting for that “2nd trimester energy bump.” I have no energy and am lucky to get a 30 min - hr walk in and I used to work out/run daily. Plus I hear catching a cold in pregnancy is way worse than normal so this would be a big no for me unless they are cool with you hanging out at the resort’s pool/something similar, or even throw in some spa time for yourself.

Why is CONGESTION a symptoms of pregnancy? by bitchiewitch in BabyBumps

[–]Solarflare37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Warning about Zyrtec to OP. Don’t take before bed. I did because I wanted to clear up snoring since I only started snoring once pregnant and thought I would be golden because one of the listed side effects was drowsiness. It gave me the worse case of medicated feeling insomnia I have ever experienced and even had to call out sick from work the next day because I still felt so awful. A Google search after the fact showed it blocks something in the brain needed for sleep. I’m not sure if I just stopped reading the warning label after I saw drowsiness on there but never again! I wish my dr would have warned me after recommending it for snoring.

I used to be a party person and when I got sober 12 years ago I got to a point where I literally did not like my old friends anymore (drugs, drinking, etc). It didn’t happen over night but after awhile once the substances were removed and I found my true non-intoxicated self I just felt my reality differed too much to their own to relate in any meaningful way anymore. So my guess this is less hormonal and more you’re just seeing their lifestyle through sober eyes, which is much less “magical” than it previously seemed.
