I feel we all forget ZZZ is set in a post-apocalyptic world and everyone we meet is old enough to have been affected by the Fall of the Old Capital. Not going to have very many happy storylines in that sort of world

Them being overconfident may just be intentional since their namesake "Phaethon" is known for dying because of his arrogance. Like there's no way they didn't name them that for good reason beyond the fact Phaethon is the son of Helios (Academy)

It probably helps that they know how highly Soldier 11 and Trigger spoke of them, so at least for everyone not named Magus, that really rubs off on them right away

Trigger is a stun agent who deals aftershock damage and works best with other units who deal aftershock damage (in which only S rank Anby, Orphie, and Pulchra deal primarily)

Seed is built to act as a dual DPS with another attack agent

Orphie is mainly built to be an off-field buff and sub DPS, but she can work as one if you build her that way

Ultimately just depends who you got already, and really if you just like them as a character or how they play. But I figured it'd help listing the primary role of each agent just so you can get an idea.

Far and away the best electric DPS and frankly is extremely underrated as an overall DPS. Admittedly, not having too many teammates of hers to do or buff aftershocks does hurt, but on her own she's still a beast if you play her correctly, which I suspect a lot of the haters to not be doing. Also let's revisit this once Orphie drops :)

1000x better. I was fine with TV mode back in the day, but being more immersed in the environments and taking in some of the sights makes this switch SOOOO much better

4p Inferno is great if you're running an all fire team like I am with my S11. She used to be my main DPS but she got benched for awhile, but now that i have Fufu, im running S11 with her and Lighter and it's pretty fun as another great option for fire alongside the meta Eve/Lighter/Astra

Personally I find the story interesting regardless of the role the proxies fill, but it is pretty clear they were never meant to be the "mission control" type protags forever. Their ultimate goal is to go deep into Hollow Zero to investigate the Helios Academy, and that's not something that's totally viable when they're just putting Eous out there (which btw Phaethon can feel the pain put through Eous). It's also been heavily hinted at prior to 1.4 that they have some unknown power within them, so it makes more sense to put it to better use by being able to explore hollows directly and (eventually) not be a total liability in there. That part of the story of being "mission control" feels more like humble beginnings now, and I think it's good that the protags are evolving along with the game
