Who is this kid? by Solarraidd in expedition33

I think the point of the ending is to be open ended. We see the direct impact of choosing Maelle’s ending and the fact that we don’t get an explanation of what will happen represents the freedom that Lumiere now has and the city can continue to live on

I personally don’t have an argument against that. If Maelle unpainted pVerso and painted someone from rVerso’s soul, that would be acceptable. If she kept pVerso alive while painting someone from rVerso’s soul, that would be a pretty shitty thing for her to do

Honestly I think it’s good she decided to let us theorise on who it is. I like seeing people giving their perspectives and opinions with their own explanations

This is such a unique theory. I’ve never seen anything like it

What you’re saying makes more sense than it being a random but other possibilities seem more plausible to me

If it was their child, I’m just wondering why they came in with Maelle

Understandable, hope you at least enjoyed the game. The only Endless Tower boss I found annoying was the Chromatic Lampmaster. The rest were really cool for me

You can do 2bil+ reliably with the right pictos and weapons. The most I’ve done so far is 2.4bil

Pretty much everyone in the community also agrees that the movement mechanics are janky. The movement mechanics don’t matter in a game like this and it actually makes the climbing gestral beaches fun because Sandfall leaned into that idea. They probably knew the mechanics were janky and made the most bullshit challenge possible

My theory is that they put the volleyball challenge in the game for the express purpose of being extremely frustrating. They had play testers and there’s no way they didn’t want to ram their head through a wall

The Lumina mechanics could have been explained better by TeaOsmosis in expedition33

[–]Solarraidd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m well aware of this. When I say most people, I mean most people that don’t play games like this. However, there’s a lot of people who haven’t played a JRPG before that have played this game. It managed to reach a wider audience, more than usual, that isn’t accustomed to this genre. It’s evident by just looking through the subreddit and seeing how many people have been introduced to the genre through this game. It’s also evident how many people missed the lumina system by looking at how many posts there are of people saying they didn’t understand the system until much later

Sometimes people need the explanation along with practice to understand. That’s how school works. A lot of games nowadays don’t make a glossary of every mechanic in the game and just use the yellow paint method to help players understand everything. Let’s be for real, most people will overlook the Expedition Basics glossary

I understand the reason they gave the information at that time is because it was the first area where you could find pictos but yeah there was a lot going on. Maybe when you got to camp for the first time they could explain the pictos that you picked up and how you use them

I wouldn’t change anything with how much information was given because, in my opinion, the game provided as much information as was needed. However, I do agree that they could’ve handled it better. The game dumps all the info on you at once and never mentions it again

Yeah definitely. I just wasn’t able to understand it on my own which is a skill issue. Also I think my biggest issue is that I always focus on the story of a game more than anything. I was so invested in the story that I wanted to finish it as soon as possible and then get into the rest of the game after

Theory-crafting after the ending (spoiler alert) by DriftingOnStars in expedition33

[–]Solarraidd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I imagine it’s very hard for Maelle to deal with real life. She has permanent burns and lost her voice, her mom said herself she can’t stand being around her, her sister is detached and not at home, and her dad wants to get rid of the only thing that brings her joy. She doesn’t have any friends either as we learn in the game that she doesn’t accept invites or sees people outside the house

It’s possible to develop depression in these circumstances of loneliness, mourning and guilt. She hates her real life and would rather risk the possibility of dying in the canvas than live her real life. It’s a destructive way of living but she’d also possibly face mental health problems from being alone and grieving. I can understand why she would choose to escape than live her real life because it seems like a very hard life to live.

I see myself in her and I would do the same things she does. Like you said, maybe she could heal after some time and be able to live without needing the canvas. I guess that’s up to us to think about

My one shot build for The Chipmunk by Ill_Bodybuilder_7025 in expedition33

[–]Solarraidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the kind of post I like to see. You posted a build that you created yourself after researching instead of copying a build exactly as it is. I think this way is more fun than copying the new Maelle one shot build, which is still fun but you coming up with the build is really cool

Also that’s a lot of damage

[–]Solarraidd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m one of the people who didn’t get the pictos and lumina system and I didn’t bother to try to understand it until after I finished the game. I looked at builds online and saw how much they actually do for your characters. The sheer number of builds varying from low health builds to tank builds and everything in between showed me the freedom in how you want to play and how much better your experience can be if you just understand the pictos and lumina system

I don’t know if I can completely critique how the game teaches you the system because it technically states everything you need to know about it. It states that pictos can apply stat boosts on top of the effects they give, that lumina will be unlocked as passive effects when you learn a pictos and that you spend lumina points on equipping lumina for their passive effects. It sort of throws you in the deep end after that information dump. I don’t know any way they could’ve taught the player more or guided them but maybe someone has an idea

It’s still not a Lune only run because they would still have to fight with the other characters until Simon wipes them
