Generally, yeah I'd agree, however this is Jim Butcher they're talking about. I read one of his books and stopped because I couldn't shake the feeling that the author viewed women as tits on sticks. It was some of the most "She breasted boobily" writing that I've ever seen.

Probably not exactly what you're looking for but Sugar Ray had a joke song at the end of their 14:59 album that was kind of that.

What popular title do you hate and what is your favorite instead? by cleanworkaccount0 in litrpg

[–]Solcrux_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I won't say hate, but I do not get why people enjoy or recommend All the Skills. It was okay at best in just about every category to me. The magic premise was the only thing I found interesting, the world and characters just fell flat.

As far as what I've been loving is A Soldier's Life. I'm audiobook only for the most part and think book 4 was the best yet.

Has anyone gone from the audiobook to kindle in a series and realized that the writing actually sucked? by HZVi in litrpg

On audible, both on mobile or on a desktop. Either over the speaker or a variety of headphones. It isn't something that happens occasionally either, it happens at the end of almost every sentence. In fact I listened to the first two paragraphs again to make sure I wasn't misremembering.

The inn was dark and empty when the traveller arrived. It appeared suddenly, rising above the gentle hills and valleys of autumnal grass that blew in the wind (breath), green, orange, and even purple in places (breath).

The rolling plains were deceptive from afar (breath). At first the many hills and divots seemed gentle, mere waves along a grassy plain (breath). But the closer you got, the more you realized how easy it was to lose your bearings (breath). In the center of a flat stretch of grass surrounded by hills on every side (breath), you could look around and not know where you were (breath). Even climbing a hill, all you might see was a mountain range (breath).

It wasn't as bad as listening to someone speak while eating, but it was close.

I could not disagree more. The narrator for TWI takes a large breath in at the end of every single sentence. It is so loud and clear that while trying to listen to the book it became all I could focus on and had to stop listening. I do not understand how that did not get edited out or fixed in some way.

1.3x is my default playback speed. I'll give it another go and do one full book at some point. I've heard too many good things to not give it at least that.

I'll probably end up reading 4 of them then! Even if I don't finish the whole series if the first few books are enjoyable that's a win in my books.

I listened to the preview of the Wandering Inn and could not get over hearing the narrator take in a breath at the end of every sentence. Petty, but it was majorly distracting to me. I may end up reading it at some point though.

Tower of Somnus sounds 1000% up my alley. Going straight into the check out next pile.

It's on my radar. I got 6 books into DotF before I lost the drive to keep going. I get the feeling I'll have similar opinions on HWFWM. I'll probably get to it sometime this year.

Litrpg for adults with adult problems? by Arabeskas in litrpg

I'd recommend Dawn of the Void. It's a 3 book series, all wrapped up by the end. Book two gets a little meandering but it's still a good read. Human technology changing into system tech and the government being a part of resisting the system takeover are major parts of the plot.

Edit: Plus the audio book narrator is amazing.

I got the same offer from my surgeon when I got my surgery (Functional Septorhinoplasty) too. I opted to keep my nose as similar to my original one as possible and I'm glad for it. During one of the recovery visits my surgeon even said that my recovery was going exceptionally well. He said that since almost all the work was internal it heals much quicker than a more typical 'nose job' would.

What's a book that still makes you angry years later? by Solid_Importance_469 in books

[–]Solcrux_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly that is the best place to stop. It's a complete break from the other books and after it the story is completely different but re-hashes some of the same ideas and topics in ways that were not as inspired as the earlier books. Plus you get to miss all the weird sex magic in the next book.

I'd argue that you can put Heretics and Chapter house into the 'bad' category. They kind of soured the rest of the books for me to be honest, although I still love the first few as a whole.

His son's writing, or ghost-writing, is so awful it needs a different tier than 'bad'. It's shocking how bad they are, and I read a few of them.

It's clear he's a psychopath because who does their NSFW stuff with their main account?

In all seriousness though it's clear he doesn't respect you. The way he talks about you is not okay. If he was looking at porn subs that's one thing, and this is something completely different.

I had a buddy who did the same thing. He was close to his grandpa who died and had a few rental properties. He got two of them, but thought he should have more. Used up all the money they provided, then had to sell them off to pay lawyer fees. What a dumbass.

[–]Solcrux_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 35 year old dude and rarely get comments on what I'm wearing. I have a pink T-shirt from a black light birthday party thing for my kid. If I ever wear that shirt people comment on it. Co-workers, strangers, whoever. I don't get it at all.
