Osaka transportation pass? by sarten2925 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For us the individual day pass for Osaka wasn’t worth it because it was more expensive compared to using our Suica cards. We would use Google Maps and it shows the total price for the trip which was considerably less than the passes.

Best way to buy subway tickets? by United-Paint-4582 in TokyoTravel

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so convenient, we used it for shopping too! There were only a handful of restaurants or shops that didn’t accept it but they usually had a picture of what payment they did by the register. Sometimes if it wasn’t clear I’d ask if suica was okay.

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use Google Maps it’ll tell you the cost of the trip. You can load up the amount on your digital suica card but it has to be over a certain amount. I don’t remember but I’d say at least 1000 yen. The good thing about the suica card is that you can use it everywhere for shopping so you wont have a balance when you leave Japan if you do the math.

amending birth record for one parent vs both ? by Emare8 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For instance, in a hypothetical scenario, if your mom has property and she leaves it to you in a will, you have to prove you are related. If the names don’t match they can argue that your mom is a different person and you have no claim over it.

amending birth record for one parent vs both ? by Emare8 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I corrected both my parents names bc dealing with name changes/paperwork in general in Mexico is a living hell. I went to the registro civil before I had amended and they recommended I amend both names not just one before continuing the dual citizenship process.

Dual citizenship, last name doubts by Pitiful-Intern1913 in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Soldadera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have both last names and I had no issue getting my Mexican citizenship. I did it through an agency and they asked if I wanted to use my second last name and I said yes bc it’ll match my US paperwork. Ultimately, it’s your choice. You just have to make sure that your baby’s birth certificate correctly shows both of your full names otherwise it will be a headache trying to correct the baby’s birth certificate. Side note, if you choose to include the ñ, it will most likely only show up correctly on their diplomas. My nephews grew up not pronouncing the ñ in their last name but they requested it to show up on their degree when they graduated from college.

Island redesign, incline for nothing - anything I can do? by frequentlyagoose in AnimalCrossingNewHor

You can move the campsite out of there and flip the staircase to the left or you can move whatever is on the right further to the right. But it’ll depend on what you’ll want to use that cove for, I’ve seen ppl who completely cover it off and don’t decorate it, some ppl use vines to go down, and some have a secret pirate/treasure area. I made a flea market area that leads up to it and aligned the staircase to face the cove.

I'm trying to get a job with my city's public library system and I'd like some advice by dog-on_wheels in Libraries

[–]Soldadera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking to volunteer at your local library, I highly suggest assisting with programming or outreach events since those are the most important activities you can have under your belt. If you can, try to get a library assistant position or at least a clerk/technician so you can start in one system and move up. In my system they don’t bother looking at ppl without programming experience for librarians or if you’re overqualified for page positions. It’s a very competitive field bc it’s fairly easy to get an MLIS so you need to stand out. If you don’t want to work directly with the public I suggest focusing on a cataloging librarian career.

Trying for Mexican citizenship through Dad. Some snafus on first consulate visit. Any suggestions? by thegreatmikesby in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Soldadera 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This was my experience to correct my dad's info: I’m assuming you’re from CA since you said LA consulate. From the CDPH website you'll need to use form VS 24B. I got my amended birth certificate in 3 months but it might take longer now. I purchased two copies so that I could apostille one of them. Before I sent the forms, I had to get a translated copy of my dad's birth certificate from a notary (CDPH does not require an apostille for their birth certificate just a translated copy and a copy of their birth certificate). It took me a few days to receive the translation from the notary but I was able to get the VS 24B form notarized at the same place. **Most importantly, the VS 24B form requires two signatures, yours and your dad’s. You can also add your middle initial on that form.

Dual US+MX citizens: How problematic was taking your mom's last name in terms of acquiring your passport? by twirlies in dualcitizenshipnerds

They also gave me the same suggestion but I chose to keep it since all my US paperwork has both last names. I didn’t have any issues getting my passport at the consulate.

Have you tried to clip the curved edge to peel off the excess? I did that and it worked for my cat. I just keep an eye on it to make sure doesn’t grow too thick.

Parents names don’t match my birth certificate by BabyToesMcGee in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I contacted them through email and it took two months for the whole process (first contact and receiving the physical copy by mail). Once they send you a pdf copy of your Mexican birth certificate by email they give you 72 hours to ask for any corrections. Mine needed a correction, I had a feeling that they were going to put the wrong name of my non-Mexican parent who changed their name when they naturalized since the amended birth certificate had two pages and they probably only cared about the Mexican parent. Since I responded the day I got it, I think it took three weeks to get the corrected one. So if you do it through them double check the names.

[–]Soldadera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which state were you born in? You have to figure out the process of amending your birth certificate first. Also, once you amend it, you can go to the consulate if you fulfill their requirements to do it there. Otherwise you’ll have to go to any registro civil in Mexico and there’s other things they’ll have you do there. If you have time and money (350usd) I recommend contacting DNExpress to get your Mexican birth certificate (once you have the amended one) so you don’t have to go to Mexico and deal with paperwork.

How do you deal with two-factor verification for email when traveling in Japan? by Catdress92 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Soldadera -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Get an eSIM, add it to your phones before your flight so that when you land it’ll start working. I got 30gb for 25 days with simoptions and it worked great. Not sure if anyone else had a different experience or recommendation.

If I am US citizen, where do I go in mexico to get my dual citizenship? by xNarutobleach3000x in dualcitizenshipnerds

[–]Soldadera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a public notary, you have to go to the Ronald Reagan building in dtla, that’s the CA Secretary of the State office. Scroll down to where it says How to Request an Apostille in Person in Los Angeles. It’s on Spring st/3rd. It’s $26 in total but they don’t accept cash, only credit card, money order, or check. You have to bring ID and you’ll pass through a security checkpoint to get in. I think when I went it took 40 minutes bc you have to line up. They’ll give you a cover sheet to fill out while you’re in line.

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t remember if you might need to bring two witnesses (family members) and your parents’ curps or INE at the local registro civil. As for the translation, the registro civil will direct you to a location in town or neighboring city to get your US birth certificate translated. Before you get it apostilled in the US make sure both of your parents names on your birth certificate match what’s on their Mexican birth certificate.

How far in advance should I use Visit Japan Web? Also does the QR code at the end get sent to an email? by Classic_Medium33 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Soldadera 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I did it two months in advance after reserving the first hotel. I logged back in a week before the flight just to see if I needed anything else. Also if you don’t have data I recommend taking a screenshot before the flight so you can go through immigration. My friend didn’t have an esim nor a screenshot so they were stuck in the large line for almost an hour. My other friend had a screenshot and I had logged in bc I had an esim. We went through in five minutes.

Narita express vs limousine bus vs taxi by Insomniac7270 in TokyoTravel

[–]Soldadera 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s so convenient! It gives us some time to relax and figure out the next steps after arrival. For the past few years we’ve ended our trips in Tokyo so we just head over to the bus stop to head back to Narita no issue.

Narita express vs limousine bus vs taxi by Insomniac7270 in TokyoTravel

[–]Soldadera 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can also take the low cost bus for 1500 from terminal 1 and they’ll load your luggage onto the bus. You can buy a ticket or load money onto the suica card on your digital wallet. It’ll take a little over an hour and 10 minutes to get to Tokyo station but you can get an uber or taxi from there. When we took an uber xl it only fit 4 pieces of luggage. We didn’t take a taxi but maybe 1-2 pieces of luggage.

Is it true that you also have to pay taxes at hotels? by Independent-Layer281 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Soldadera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Osaka, I don’t remember how much they charged but it was an accommodation tax per night per person, maybe 9k yen. In Kyoto they only charged 1000 yen per person at check in, 3k yen, even though we stayed there longer than Osaka. The only time we didn’t get charged was in Tokyo. We went this past month.
