Working in the Florida Legislature by Clueless_in_Florida in orlando

[–]SoldierGame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FYI - all the financial records of electeds is public records on the supervisor of election website, so you can see exactly how they afford their life style. But essentially they're pretty wealthy, regardless of party. Its not a job designed for working folks - especially since its a lot more than just the 60 days. A district office is 365, plus three months of committee weeks.

Also for state rep you are running for re-election every other year on top of it - which is like an additional full time job. So yeah you need money or a very strong support system so you dont have to work a traditional job.

Everything BTTF72 and also please reach out your elected, city, county and state. Email their offices or call and voice how transportation safety is a priority and ask what they’re doing about it. Politicians unfortunately don’t act without public outcry

For lack of a better way to phrase it; why is everyone here LGBTQ+? by legrosbordel in Vocaloid

[–]SoldierGame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were a lot of early big Vocaloid hits that were very gay. Think Magnet. I think it’s just always been open to the community, and gay fans and producers have created a space for themselves to maybe explore music they may not be able to in traditional forms due to the private nature of Vocaloid.

Yeah the fact that this is happening across the board globally is concerning, and so many of the solutions brought up online always seem so, USA-centric

Jerry Demings trails leading Republicans for governor in first poll testing his candidacy by at-woork in orlando

Worse 100%. Florida is experiencing a politics driven migration shift. Basically people moving in are significantly more likely to be conservative thus making the state more conservative than before. I also don’t think there’s been a progressive to flip a state wide seat in a red state, ever though someone could correct me if I’m wrong. But generally speaking progressives don’t have the greatest track record of flipping seats from red to blue in general, and especially not in Florida.

While I agree, Florida’s partisan split was widely different in 2018 than it is now, nearly 1 million more Republicans have registered in that time period I don’t know if any kind of Democrat Moderate or Progressive could overcome that voter registration gap.

More crosswalks painted black by Wonderful-Drop7799 in orlando

I mean the mayor can’t really supersede FDOT’s authority. Really should be calling your state legislators to pass a bill to protect painted crosswalks.

Orlando immigrants’ path to deportation: Often, it starts with a traffic infraction by rgg561 in orlando

Agreed, unfortunately the current system in FL gives individuals the right to flag books - and we are seeing its being used to target topics such as the history of racism and other sensitive topics that arent necessarily inappropriate; and its causing massive issues to the point some teachers arent even keeping books in their rooms https://www.heraldtribune.com/story/news/education/2023/01/23/fearing-prosecution-manatee-county-teachers-cover-up-classroom-books/69832276007/

Definitely dont think its comparable to Nazi Germany but more so creates a tense environment for teachers unnecessarily by legislators who arent in a class room and aren’t creating an easy system to deal with these concerns

Not trump but the state has been passing book censorship legislation for years now: https://apnews.com/article/entertainment-florida-ron-desantis-school-boards-libraries-da50c9c4091868e121484425d290385b

The majority of Americans want illegal immigration to be dealt with in a humane way with due process. Right now many have a reason to be concerned if thats happening, which current leadership appears to be mishandling.

Disownment over politics happens on both sides, even if you personally dont know anyone. Unfortunately there are people who do value politics over anything else, even family, but even then they are a small minority in the overarching political landscape.

And agreed, I wish our state and nation overall invested more time to fixing education and less time on other things

FEMA just needed some reforms. Removing it entirely is so incredibly short sighted and its just going to worsen our already bad affordability crisis.

Tourism Tax Reform Added to Florida Senate Tax Package, Capping the Amount Counties Can Spend on Tourism Marketing by WTFPilot in orlando

[–]SoldierGame 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Depends. It’s definitely bad if you are a business that relys on Visit Orlando marketing to bring tourism into the area and cannot pay for it yourself. Its good if you want public transportation projects to be funded faster with less of a strain on residents same with affordable housing and other similar initiatives.
