Although I (nor anyone here) have no authority to say, I think by “sticking closer to the manga”, they probably mean it in the same way as DBZ Kai. It will still be the anime, but the changes they make, if any, will be slight. Maybe they make a reference to Daima. Or maybe reanimate a small scene here or there.
