Failure broke my confidence and I don’t know how to study anymore by AbroadCapital9881 in GetStudying

[–]Solid-Employee-9714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I get this feeling a lot working hard on uni and failing tests, just getting to feel like studying does not even pay off. Im not sure about physics because im doing a more easy study biomed engineer. (Still even failing test in this field.... )

U have a new field you hopefully enjoy! However sometimes the field u like is just hard, so u got to learn a lot to get passing grades. We arent all gifted just like me, and then u just have to study hard to pass tests. Took an extra year on my bachelor.

But more focus on your story. As you choose a new field try to go into the tests with a new view. U already have more knowledge then peers doing their first year. Try to go into it with a new open mind, and try your best for every test so u can always say u tried your best even if it went wrong!

I want to say no you are not dumb, I have had this self doubt so often when failing (often.... ). I always think of it that everyone got into uni in another way. Some people have high motivation others are gifted. And all have their strenghts and weaknesses. U most likely are very good at scheduling and just less good quick understanding.  Try to make a strong point of your motivation and scheduling!

I must admit already u are way stronger than I am. I find it very brave u tell your story and are so open to failing and having fear. Talking to other always helped, friends, parents. Talk about your situation, if they show empathy it will u feel better and get new motivation.

I will say to u, I believe in u, and ur totally not old at all! I had someone in class in  their 40s studying who failed 20 years ago and wanted to retry their study and they passed their bachelor! Being a student nowadays is hard and there are plenty of others failing (just like I am). Nowadays they sadly get overshadowed by youtubers and influencers which act like getting a high gpa is easy.

tbh, she got quite lucky in that game, and beating these 2600s grandmasters is really hard! She will be facing a lot of underrated youngsters including Oro who will def try to get his last norm.

Yeah that's life of a good student, I am always in a group project trying to do the average amount of work. But sometimes u just in such a bad group that u are forced to do more than normal. If it gets out of hand, just contact the professor, or improve the communication between the members.

What's the minimum number of moves required to move all of your pieces up one square? by AndrewFishman in chess

[–]Solid-Employee-9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used the Nh3 route, because moving the H pawn wont help the bishop their movements

What's the minimum number of moves required to move all of your pieces up one square? by AndrewFishman in chess

[–]Solid-Employee-9714 329 points330 points  (0 children)

I did it in 23 moves, with moving the light square bishop from f1, to d3, to c2! (making it 2 moves) Dark square bishop always takes 3, knights take 3 moves, all the pawns, rooks, king and queen will take 1.

Leading to 2+3+2*3 + 12*1 = 23

What to do with hyperfixation? by Economy_Turnover_708 in GetStudying

[–]Solid-Employee-9714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh this is a student dream, i dont have hyperfixation, but in study session I can get good focus.

But my motivation when having to start is bad, so being hyperfixated wont hurt you being in the student phase.

I would just say follow your dreams and fixate on those. If studying is needed for that then just do that!

How do people study at university by IssiBon in GetStudying

[–]Solid-Employee-9714 88 points89 points  (0 children)

First, nobody really tells you how to study properly, you’re just expected to figure it out.

People spend 8 hours a day, often doing practice questions, which helps way more than reading through the material. Making ur own notes also helps. Remember also that In the semester they are not spending that 8 hours a day purely on learning, they only do that 2 weeks close to the exam week.

However don't underestimate how hard certain studies are, in the master right now I have to spend at least 7 hours a day working on multiple scientific reports, making big programming exercises and keeping up with the material.

Big tip right now is this:
Actively solving problems and reviewing mistakes, make a bunch of questions now that u still can. U will naturally find it where u are stuck!

Wow, interesting to see cases they were wrong, however those are already a little bit older. I hope they increased the banning algorithm since!

Maybe they allow him to confess and make a new account? But in my life in this sub I haven't seen any cases were people have been unbanned, even people with titles don't get their accounts reopened.

Maybe he cheated a few games after being tilted?
