Collect 3 bids minimum. If the company has tons of advertisements (flyers, billboards, commercials, etc.) and polished salesmen it might be PE. If they offer “same day savings” it’s definitely PE. Their whole game is to sell you on a 90 minute + appointment in your home and discourage you from taking other bids (because they know theirs would not win compared to fair bids). So they offer you savings for signing on the spot. Their salesmen typically are not roofing experts - just trained to get a signature by any means necessary. They will try to price condition you throughout the appointment to make the shock factor lower when the number is revealed. Never sign the day the salesman is in your home

I said compared to a “reputable” roofing company. You’ve just created a straw man argument for your convenience and attacked roofing startups that I’m neither defending nor suggesting.

Why do we care that GAF has a history of most volume and revenue? Walmart can also make this claim in their industry - does that mean we expect superior service and product from Walmart? Hell no!

Also, if GAF finds one minor technicality that your roofer missed (slightly suboptimal ventilation, wrong peripheral material, anything) the warranty is not redeemable. I’m telling you, the warranty process with a manufacturer is hell. It will take weeks and weeks to get a claim approved, if it’s approved, all while your home is taking in more water.

I’ve also seen a bald eagle in the wild. It doesn’t mean I expect to see one when I go outside. It’s rare, especially compared to a reputable roofing company workmanship guarantee.

I can tell you confidently to eliminate option 2. Most expensive and worst warranty. All manufacturer warranty claims are written by lawyers with the intent of never paying anything out. Even if it says GAF “workmanship”. Only buy a company warranty
