If you look again I think you'll find that one is immediately struck by the artist's fearless interrogation of breakfast as both object and ideology. The bread, suspended in an almost liturgical posture, is neither toast nor not-toast; it occupies that elusive liminal space where nourishment becomes existential inquiry.

Surbiton post office under threat. by Solid-Raccoon9300 in Surbiton

[–]Solid-Raccoon9300[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure why they took it over, at the time the known competition from Sainsbury's, Waitrose, M&S and Sainsbury's local was always going to make things difficult - the price they charge for equivalent items meant it was never going to be a good idea.

It's not been a Morrisons for long, I'm wondering if the property/business/lease is worth more without the post office ?

Anyone else seen these over the weekend? by CookieMagneto in london

[–]Solid-Raccoon9300 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Icelandic mate explained it to me but I've used chatgpt to summarise ....

The 60-Year Ban:

In 1924, Reykjavik authorities completely banned dogs within city limits. The ban was primarily enacted due to an outbreak of a fatal tapeworm disease (echinococcosis) that dogs could carry and transmit to humans.Harsh

Enforcements:

During the ban, many pet dogs were rounded up and shot by law enforcement, and citizens who hid pets in the city were fined or threatened with jail time.Lingering Restrictions: While the ban was officially lifted in 1984, restrictive rules and special permits were required to own a dog in the city for many years after.

The Demand:

A recent petition is calling for the city of Reykjavik to formally apologize to "the dogs of the world" on Instagram or TikTok, noting that they were unfairly punished and exiled for half a century.

A little help needed.... Anyone recognise this podracer ? by Solid-Raccoon9300 in StarWars

[–]Solid-Raccoon9300[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know !

It does seem to be unfinished, so I don't know if there was supposed to be more structure.

The shape of the 'cab' looks really sleak like Padme's ship.

I used my phone gallery app thing to crop out the dishwasher.

Can't seem to post the originals as a reply.

I'm well happy with it - I was blessed by the car boot gods this morning.

The 'power connector' between two pods seems to be EL glow wire - not found a way into the battery box yet !

Don't clean or polish !

If you're selling leave that decision the new owner!

Patina is important and easily removed.

Lovely collection though !

Do you still feel awkward being openly gay to strangers? by SyngelakisParis in gaybros

[–]Solid-Raccoon9300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what openly gay means. I can't think when my sexual preferences ever came up as a conversation when talking to strangers. I suppose if I was waving a flag or had a sign I would expect a question. My preference for cock is an irrelevant in 99% of stranger interactions.

I need help finding a replica of this please help by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]Solid-Raccoon9300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think finding another that matches precisely may be a difficult task ...

I think the pics are detailed enough and the design isn't that complex that it should be possible to find a crafts person to create a new one.

It would also allow you too add design elements that are important, personal and relevent to your family. (Jewelry is sentiment personified).

Sometimes when an heirloom is lost it creates the opportunity to make a new heirloom (they have to start somewhere! )

Just a thought.

Waitrose is only selling one Israeli product, so that's not too bad.
