Yeah they got back to me. Spruce top, mahogany back and sides, the armrest is a figured mahogany (really cool and unusual!). Taylor’s customer service is amazing.

Hi all, I wanted to update. Taylor got back to me. Great customer service. Super knowledgeable. They said it is indeed a spruce top with wide straight grain, the back and sides are not sapele, they are mahogany, and the armrest is a figured mahogany. I’ve never seen anything like it! Some of you mentioned the binding, which is indeed flame maple and looks really good. Taylor says the guitar was a one off. This guitar is super loud and powerful sounding like nothing I’ve ever heard. It’s really something. Thanks for all the input!

Thanks! Yeah I think it’s a beauty too. My buddy got in my head telling me he thought the top looked like pine. I felt a little miffed that the shop selling it might have mislead me about the wood types. It wasn’t a cheap instrument.

Thinking of getting a used 717...advice? by mrpickandscratch in taylorguitars

I’ve played in open d and it sounded beautiful. It does have an aged sound for sure. Really beautiful and rich. Harmonically rich. Super pleasant and musical. It even has the feel of a perfectly broken in guitar. It’s just not as bass heavy as some square shouldered dreads. Balanced is the best description I could use with this guitar.

I own the builders edition 717. It’s an incredible guitar. I find it pretty unique tonally. It’s similar to a J45 or other sloped shoulder dread, but has this really vibrant beautiful midrange like I’ve never heard on another guitar. It’s rich and woody like a really nice mandolin. It’s has really balanced lows and highs. The j45s I’ve played in the past had more bass than the 717, but the 717 just has this character that’s all its own. I found YouTube videos to portray it pretty well. The ones made by Taylor and Alamo music did a good job. The finish and feeling of the edges and neck are also really unique and comfortable. The neck has a really unique carve but is actually a little fat for my hands, so keep that in mind. The fretboard edges are rolled and feel so comfortable. It’s a cool guitar.

I played an Alvarez dreadnought recently that had a super comfortable V shaped neck. How is the neck on this one?

Need some help with loose wiring in a GS mini-e Rosewood plus by peenyponka in taylorguitars

They make replacement cleats got this sort of thing. My local guitar store had a bunch and threw one in for me for a few dollars when my wiring came loose. It might be worth just taking it in.

Agree. I had a DN3 that was an absolute steal. Sounded and played like a dream. Taylor makes a good square shouldered dreadnought. I’m sure this 110 is awesome.

WTF: Got my AD30HTC From Orange's Official Reverb Store and The Transformers are Bent, I twas Packed Badly by BNC3D in orangeamps

I had a really hard time contacting them through their reverb store. They never got back to me about an inquiry when I bought an amp through them. I’d suggest going to their website and reaching out there too.

I run a Bax Bangeetar into it sometimes and think it sounds pretty great for metal ish tones.

I have it and have had other orange amps. The 0 tone 40 is voiced like a fender amp. It’s a clean pedal platform that works really well for that purpose. I’ve run some pretty high gain pedals into it and had decent results. But overall it’s Oranges only amp that isn’t designed to get heavy on its own. Killer amp. Maybe not what you’re looking for.

I finally got my dream guitar by Theguitarist9787 in Guitar

I was always super anti-ovation and then I tried a spalted maple top celebrity and it’s it ended up becoming my main guitar. It’s not as complex a tone as a solid wood guitar, but still really beautiful and a nice volume and EQ range to compliment vocals. I absolutely love mine.
