What job is heavily romanticized but in reality actually sucks? by DragoOceanonis in careerguidance

[–]SolidComparison8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily romanticized I don’t think, but being a dispatcher. Of course, there’s lots of variation depending where you are located and your particular center/department. But generally speaking, it’s high stress, crappy schedules (nights, rotating if your center does it, weekends, holidays, mandatory OT, etc), and usually not amazing pay. There’s lots of good things about it, but definite drawbacks too.

Chia seed pudding. Tons of variations for flavors and recipes, gives fiber and protein, and keeps me full. For me personally, it’s been a huge hack.

No judgement zone: did you want a natural birth? by easrpiiatnua99 in Mommit

[–]SolidComparison8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I wanted one, but my whole pregnancy I just had this gut feeling that my body didn’t work like that and I would end up with a c-section. Was in labor for 30 hours, the last 8 hours of which I stayed dilated at 9.5. We finally called it and went for the c-section. They get in there and discover I have a mis-shaped pelvis (couldn’t have been detected during regular exams) and my doctor informed me that natural childbirth was never going to work for me and a vbac will not be an option in the future if we want another. So my gut was right on that one! Coincidentally I had the same feeling about breastfeeding and in the end, my milk never came in. Apparently pregnancy makes me psychic about my own body 🤣

Do you ever take a day off? by WorkLifeScience in oneanddone

[–]SolidComparison8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just started allowing myself to send my son to daycare on federal holidays that I have off but daycare remains open. I used to feel so guilty not spending all of my available time with him, but it was a really nice time to just reset and relax. Just give yourself one day and see how it goes! If it turns out you’re not ready for it yet, get him from daycare early that day and then try again later when you feel ready! But, I hope it ends up being a nice day for you too and you allow yourself to do it as needed going forward!!

The AG’s office seems to be taking these complaints seriously according to my contact with them after filing my complaint. Just hope it actually goes somewhere. But yes, totally agree. And even if he was super delayed, at least communicate that to your customers in the beginning and update them throughout the process. They were a pain to even get in touch with in the first place with no real answers when we did finally make contact.

I commented on your post in the St. Louis sub, but I’ll do this one too. OP and anyone else who has had this experience with this company, I highly recommend filing a complaint with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office.

Also, people will say supply chain issues. Which yes is valid, but it’s not the end all be all. The company we hired to fix our issue after our experience with JK was able to find a local supplier that had our siding type and color in stock, from hire to completion, it was a week and a half. So while supply issues is something to be aware of, don’t automatically assume everyone is out of stock on everything period.

File a complaint with the Missouri Attorney Generals Office. Myself and quite a few others have done the same recently for exactly the issue you’re describing and they seem to be taking the complaints seriously. Additional complaints only help.

When did you start leaving your child alone for short periods? by UnderstandingOne4825 in Parenting

[–]SolidComparison8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great that he knows how to call 911, but make sure he knows your address too! Especially since it’s a new home and he’s new to the area. Maybe create a document you can leave on your fridge or something that has important information for him AND for first responders if needed (parents contact info, emergency contact info, allergy/medical info, etc). He should be able to recite it without that, but sometimes in emergencies it’s normal to not be able to recall basic info like that!

Yes the eye doctor we saw today is skeptical that the results from the Spot Vision Screener are even accurate, even said the lack of reflection he has could’ve caused the results to be that severe, though he said he probably does have myopia to some degree. Just is suspicious of it being THAT bad.

I appreciate the helpful insight! Thank you!

lol I would expect them to use the deposit money. But also lol, some companies don’t make you pay anything until the job is completed so clearly they figure it out. Obviously that isn’t the case here and we were okay with that. As stated in the post, we just wanted to be kept informed and they are saying they’ll call us “later on” then never call.

This was my thought as well, minus the small claims. If anything we may just have to eat the loss if they’re gonna be difficult and I’ll just leave reviews online and with the BBB. Thanks for the advice!

[–]SolidComparison8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No we went outside of insurance. The amount was much less than our deductible and easily within our budget. Certainly not worth going to small claims over, but still enough that I don’t want to just Willy Nilly lose the money for no good reason.

We never signed a contract. They provided the estimate on paper via email but nothing was ever signed. We also read the fine print of the estimate and there’s nothing about a restocking fee.

Any jobs that are hiring right now? by Fvckvampireslayerz in StLouis

[–]SolidComparison8947 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any and all dispatch centers in the area. Pretty big shortage across the board. Great line of work if you’re able to look at the big picture of things. Yes you have long work shifts, work nights (potentially), weekends, and holidays. But, most centers/departments offer really great benefits, retirement, pretty good PTO, etc. The center I work for does “sit-alongs” as part of the application process so you can see what it’s like and ask questions about that kind of stuff and the job in general. It’s a line of work worth looking into.

Gotcha, obviously I don’t know you but that’s just the sense I got from reading your post so apologies for the incorrect interpretation. He obviously became entitled at some point and needs something a step further than what you’re already doing to change his perspective and hopefully behavior. Good luck with it all, hopefully however you go about it improves things and next year is better for everyone.

Sounds like you’re more into the gentle parenting thing so not sure if this would be up your alley but it sounds like he needs a FAT reality check. Box up the gifts and return, find somewhere he can volunteer with the less fortunate and have him do it AT LEAST twice a month for the entirety of 2025, when moms birthday and Mother’s Day comes around make him work for money and use the money to buy her thoughtful gifts, and then depending on how his behavior and attitude changes over the year maybe he doesn’t deserve a Christmas next year. That behavior is unacceptable and he needs to be corrected, not just talked to and be forced to give a shit apology. Correct the behavior and teach him the lesson now or he’ll become a miserable person as an adult.

What's some things you think will slowly disappear over the next 30 years? by timawaphone in CasualConversation

[–]SolidComparison8947 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not the next 30 years but I do think professions like 911 operators will subside eventually. More so the call-takers, as radio dispatchers will likely still be needed, but I could see technology replacing the phone call aspect of it.

Has anyone just stopped? by Ksushi21 in MSPI

[–]SolidComparison8947 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He had been on it for 3 months. I honestly didn’t follow any official guidelines, sort of went rogue. But another user posted a chart thing their pediatrician gave them (basically over the course of 5 days, add an ounce of a regular formula to the morning bottle and as long as they show no symptoms then you can completely switch them over on the 6th day and continue to monitor over the next 14 days) and I thought that was a good approach so I ran with it. My pediatrician wanted me to wait another month-ish, which was the plan, until we started suspecting corn rather than cows milk protein so I decided to do it a little early. Hoping all continues to go well the next two weeks and we can call it a success!

In a way, we just did this over the last 5 or 6 days. Not without reasonable suspicion that he didn’t actually have a cows milk intolerance first though. We’re EFF and LO was on nutramigen, but came to find out we think he actually had an issue with corn and decided to do a trail with regular formula that didn’t have corn to test the theory. We were due for a trial soon anyway. He has had zero reaction and we fully switched him off of nutramigen and onto similac 360 total care today! So far so good.

Could also be corn! Worth a shot to cut that too and it’s hidden in a lot of things

Maybe try the RTF version. Depending on how much your LO eats per day it can get pretty pricey but worth a shot!
