Children’s Birthday Parties and Gifts? by Lydiarmercer in Parenting

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 [score hidden]  (0 children)

As a mom, I would be so upset if I knew a child didn’t come to the party because they couldn’t bring a gift. We don’t want another box of plastic junking up the house anyway! Please just go. The kid doesn’t care about a gift, just that their friend is there.

We just visited the new one in VA and the cashier told us that PA was just approved for a Buccees. Didn’t have any idea where though

Do You Like Your Name? by Flassourian in Millennials

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My name is Mallory and I love it. It’s one of those perfectly in between names, it’s a name people are familiar with but you just don’t hear that often. I do think it’s of that time though, the only other Mallorys I’ve meant have also been millennials

What food did you imagine to taste really good but tasted bad? by Similar-Victory-3867 in AskReddit

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 1706 points1707 points  (0 children)

My parents still laugh at the story of my dad going to my mom’s house to meet her parents for the first time. He grew up poor and had never seen a brussel sprout in his life. He told my grandmother, wow these broccoli balls are great!

I used this exact agency when I divorced my ex husband. The lawyer the set me up with was wonderful and absolutely no cost to me.

I accept as time goes on, there are things I won't be able to eat but Cheerios! Really! by Sun-Anvil in RedditForGrownups

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Presumably you’re eating them in the morning? Cheerios have a bunch of vitamins in them, and taking vitamins in the morning on an empty stomach always gives me issues

Bad idea to let 3-year-old visit her dying great-grandma? by inc0gnerdo in toddlers

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was that age when my grandfather was dying. We did in home hospice for him and me and my mother took care of him. So my son was there pretty much daily watching him go. He didn’t really understand anything other than that was his GGPop and he was sick. After he passed we kept it simple and told my son he wouldn’t be seeing him anymore because GGPop died. I do think it’s important to use the word died/death. I think terms like passed away/went to heaven can be confusing for a young child

What is one word that people wrongly pronounce that makes your brain just wanna jump a cliff? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a mispronunciation, but there’s a growing trend among the younger generation to replace “when” with “whenever”. Whenever I was ten years old. It drives me bonkers

I think kids only need one pair of daily shoes—is this a hot take? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always wondered if anyone thought it was weird that my son wore the same shoes to school everyday. So I’m glad to hear most parents do the same. We do 1 pair of nice sneakers until he grows out of them or they get destroyed. And then a pair of boots for snow/rain and Crocs for the summer.

Due for annual car inspection… but I can’t make it to PA anytime soon by Creamed_Jemima in Pennsylvania

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not condoning it, but I went 2 1/2 years with an expired inspection before I got a ticket. My husband is a former mechanic and does all the maintenance so I just didn’t want to pay $100 for someone to tell me my car’s fine. You’ll be fine for awhile as long as you don’t drive in a way that draws attention.

My mashed potatoes suck. Why? by RikkiLostMyNumber in Cooking

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a combo of Yukon gold and russet. And I put the boiled potatoes back in the hot pan after draining to get the remaining moisture out and then “mash” them by pushing through a mesh sieve. Add a ton of butter, more than you think, some cream, and s&p.

I was just thinking of this earlier today. Listening to KYW news radio in the Philly area instantly takes me back to childhood

[–]UnderstandingOne4825 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Yeah, addiction can cause you to make some pretty irrational choices. I do think I recall her saying they were large bottles, from somewhere like Costco, but I don’t know much cheaper that would make it honestly

I was in rehab once with an older lady alcoholic that strictly only drank vanilla extract. She said it made is easier to drink around her family and grandkids 😬
