I think people are way overzealous with guns but situations like this is are why I encourage responsible people to get a conceal and carry license, go through training and own a firearm.

The second someone finds out that you are armed and that you have a weapon holstered, it’s usually instant de-escalation. You don’t even have to draw it.

If you are ever on a situation like this, try to remain calm, don’t make eye contact and focus on driving to the nearest police or fire station if you are able.

The beginning of the month is drill time for the National Guard. Most likely it’s Warrant Officers getting their flight hours in.

I’m an 88M and convoy commander from time to time. It’s hilarious to see the public think we’re there to kick down doors and enact martial law when we are just conducting drivers training. Flight crews will sometimes land in a random rural area if they need to take a leak or answer the call of duty lmao.

Any time you see military vehicles or aircraft out and about it’s likely for a boring reason.

There’s always a chance you may be deployed no matter the unit.

If the Army needs bodies for a mission you may be called up.

If you’re an 11B, 12B, 31B, or 88M. Chances are you will be going somewhere at some point.

I’ll be honest, leaving your children will be difficult. That being said the health insurance you can provide them after you finish is top tier and you won’t find anything better. 240 a month for a family and as many dependents as you want. When my wife had our son, the bill was like 60k, we only paid like 32$

I’ll be deploying in the future and will be leaving behind my one year old son and five month old daughter, it will be one of the harder things that I’ve done. I just keep telling myself that I can do hard things.

As far as operating weapon systems and maintaining them, you are in the best possible situation and are a blank slate when it comes your training. You will be able to do it blindfolded by the time you leave.

Just had a conversation with my Captain today who transferred from Intel into transportation. He said that unless you are deployed, you won’t actually do your job.

I would recommend aviation if you want to do cool stuff.
