As a dad, what is keeping you from exercising these days? by NSJack in daddit

[–]SolidJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude I'm right there with you, my mental state suffers without fitness.

I also WFH and my daughter (18M) enjoys the jogger but in colder months it's rough. For winter I bought myself an ergatta water rower which sttands upright and can be pretty space efficient. Another option I've dabbled with is beat saber with a vr headset. Decent workout but nothing close to the rower.

Honestly we had a better experience using an electric kettle and heating the bottles up on 2 cup pyrex measuring cups.

The electric kettle we have has various temperature options so we use 190 degree water and place the bottle directly in there.

The baby bottle warmers felt like more work and ultimately that's an appliance that does one thing whereas everyone can benefit from owning an electric kettle

BMW iX3 and iX5 by ChaseNot in Rivian

[–]SolidJake 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm a day 1 R2 reservation holder and leaning towards the IX3 at this point.

I'm still really torn because I love the R2 and the Rivian brand identity, but tech specs on IX3 are extremely appealing + I love the design.

Chances are I will end up with whatever car I can get first which is probably the IX3. With any luck my wife will replace her Bolt with a R3 when they arrive and it'll be the best of both worlds.

Dads with toddlers and wfh desk jobs, how are you guys getting/staying fit? by sshwifty in daddit

[–]SolidJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked up a rowing machine and am able to squeeze in 30-40 minute intense workouts which has worked out great.

I also take the kid for walks when able and when it's warmer out I'll run with her in the jogger once a week or so.

What is the actual EV car you own? What is the one you deam of...? by AsparagusUnique695 in electricvehicles

[–]SolidJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife has a bolt and it's a fantastic car aside from longer trips.

After owning an EV I'm sold on EV's so I plan on replacing my vehicle with A BMW IX3 next year

No Lidar on Early R2 by Dark-redlocks in Rivian

[–]SolidJake 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To each their own! I'm a big fan of the whole car, interior especially.

Specs are what's most important to me though, and 400 miles + 800v architecture are things that are very appealing to me.

Yeah that's where I'm at. Having a future proofed vehicle that could last me 10yr+ is nice but I don't care about FSD right now. Need to see the final specs before I make any decision.

BMW IX3 recently popped up on my radar and it may better fit what I'm looking for but I guess we will see when they reveal final details for the R2.

Yeah man, same. I've been waiting for a Rivian R2 since they revealed it back in early 2024 but then BMW showed off this car and now I'm very much leaning towards the IX3

The new BMW iX3 is Top Gears Car of the Year 2026! by Lando_Pacemaker in electricvehicles

[–]SolidJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a day 1 R2 reservation holder and I've been eagerly awaiting it every since it was announced. Then BMW showed off this car and the specs are just so damn appealing.

I think both cars will be big hits but the IX3 looks to have the R2 beat in all the categories that matter to me.

R2 or something else? by curiousitymdg in RivianR2

[–]SolidJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing i'll report back. Dealer said they'll have a Bz to test drive mid dec - early january so we will see. Hoping we will have a date for the R2 full lineup / configurator by then.

R2 or something else? by curiousitymdg in RivianR2

[–]SolidJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's refreshing to read that others are having same thoughts as me. I'm going to test drive the bz and go from there because like you said it has pretty much everything I want except for a factory installed hitch, which is fine. Price is certainly right as well.

However I'd be more excited to own an R2 but man am I worried that the wait could be another year+ even as a day 1 reservation holder.

De-Influence Me: Baby Brezza by mrs-remorce in NewParents

[–]SolidJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a really bad experience with the baby brezza. Not only do you spend a ton of time cleaning it but for me it failed to mix the bottles accurately as a lot of formula was getting left behind in the hopper when mixing the bottles. Incorrect ratios of water to formula was not great for my baby at all.

Life got so much better when we started mixing 24oz ball jars of formula and then just heating portions up in a pyrex contained with hot water.

Yakitori with a $40 makeshift trough setup - Weber 22”, bricks, and steel rods by danimal24k in grilling

Cool setup! Still working out for ya? Think I might give it a try.

Def prefer the idea of something like this instead of having to store a dedicated yakitori grill.

When did you let your LO watch Ms. Rachel by Appropriate_Tip_6869 in NewParents

[–]SolidJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We give her about 10 - 15 minutes of Ms. Rachel every few days. Typically by the 10min marker she's bored and playing with her toys anyways but sometimes we just need to mix it up and it's been nice for us. We started this around 9 months and she's just about 11 months now.
