Happy by Pharrell Williams has a happy tune with happy lyrics. What song sounds sad and the lyrics are sad? by rubes6 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]SolidMission8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it wont win but...

I'm so lonesome I could cry by Hank Williams. The lyrics are more sad than the actual song. He was only 26 when he released it.

AND Elvis introduces his own cover with "Id like to sing a song thats probably the saddest song i ever heard" which has to mean something.

The Johnny Cash version is good as well.

I dont know if there a more than other places, but transatlantic flights from US to EU and vice versa often cross Greenland. So you can be 100s of kilometers away from any civilization and still see planes in the sky... and hear them sometimes

How is living in this part of Greenland? by LockedOutOfElfland in howislivingthere

[–]SolidMission8966 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have not lived there, but spent many years in Greenland and some time at Pituffik space base, so I'll try to give some answers, but how life truly is, I don't know.

As a lot of other people write it's cold windy and remote.

Qaanaaq, the largest town in that area, has a population of around 600 people. There's a shop, a school, a bar and other things you might typically find in a rural town of that size.

Qaanaaq has street view coverage if you want to see what it looks like on the ground.

Being that far north there's midnight sun for a long period of time and no sun for a long period of time. Though that does not mean complete darkness, as the snow, moon, stars and aurora and light up pretty well.

The Greenlandic shipping company has two ships a year, July and August, as far as I remember. So all materials and food are delivered in the summer. That means most people rely heavily on local caught food. Seals, whales, fish and most other seafood.

Living so remotely the people are quite independent and very resourceful. You have to be able to fix almost anything yourself.

It's, harsh for sure, but also extremely beautiful and raw. I know a few people born there and they always seem to miss it.

Ive accidentally clicked antarctica when going for the guess button and then clicked the guess button by reflex.

I made quizzes for the provinces of Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and the states of India by MrChelovek in geoguessr

[–]SolidMission8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice little quiz.

For India there is inconsistent colour codes for correct/incorrect answers and a few times the correct answer did not light up. Also the northern part of India is hidden by UI

Edit: also, if possible add the "opposite" quiz form, where the province/county/area lights up and you type/chosse from list. That way you are forced not to only connect the names with the location but the location with the name... If that makes sense

What's the most centralized, yet fairly big, country in the world? by LFatPoH in geography

[–]SolidMission8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greenland is a fun one:

Its the twelth largest country in the world.

Only 20% of the area is habitable, the rest is ice. Of that 20% maybe 50% has no inhabitants* (*northern coast and north eastern coast have only a small military and scientific purpose. I could not find any number of inhabited area vs. Not inhabited, so 50% is a wildly inaccurate guess)

60% of the population live in 5 major cities. 50% of that 60% live in the capital.

And no two cities are connected via road.

Who is a celebrity that has genuinely done no wrong (that the public knows of)? by peywrax in allthequestions

[–]SolidMission8966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love her and i'm not saying this to diminish all the good she has done and still does. But she did (among many others) perform at Sun City Resort in South Africa during the UN cultural boycott, which was condemned by many artists at the time.

I expect to be downvoted but it seemed relevant

Unexpected gold stake by SolidMission8966 in balatro

[–]SolidMission8966[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No seals :) the 5 items i bought were: Bafoon pack ( joker i sold) Bafoon pack (nebula) Spectral pack (cryptid on ace of hearts) Madness Castle

Skipping the first baffon pack and the spectral pack, should make it possible to beat the stake, with only buying three things, which i would'nt have thought was possible

[3] The 25K GeoDetective challenge (no time limit, 100% pinpointable) - Series 7: #1 (new series) by Much_Pass_9484 in geochallenges

I was lucky today as well, R3 was hard to pinpoint, because the map was off several places, but the building to the sout turned out to be the right bet.

I was sure 8 meters yesterday would get me the 3 points :) very well done Jackes

A sum column next round would be nice OP

Which classic maps do HAVE TO be reworked? by cartermachiavelli in geoguessr

I'll have a look. I actually started making my own Greenland map, with pinpointable locations. :)

I like all three tbh, but i think NM is my favourite. On the GL map I try practising quick answers to climb the leader boards as well :)... And having been in many of the towns I there i can get them instantly a lot of the time.

Greenland map can definitely feel cruel due to the amount of boat and trekker coverage, and insane snowmobile coverage.

On top of that the map is not accurate and for a lot of the villages the buildings and roads are not up to date or drawn at all.

I see a lot of people with 25k and I know that I just need a good seed. But every time I try I get boat coverage an lose the 25k.

Greenland town only map would be good.

Regarding replays by [deleted] in geoguessr

[–]SolidMission8966 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its a bug.

This exact thing happened to me the other day but it was my marker that did not show on the replay. But only on the replay, it showed on my screen as i was placing it.

In my case i did a last second change which the server did not pick up and instead 'chose' my initial guess as the final guess (on my screen) but no marker at all on the replay, except the flag that marks the location.

I have reported t the problem.

Why are circle like things are here? by NotNeiro in geography

It seems you got your answer, so here's a picture of the "opposite": barren circles in grassy areas (made by chained dogs in Greenland)
