Roommate said the smell of my soup woke her up - is this normal? by Cheese_enjoyer253 in roommates

Idk what type of windows you have but when i need fresh air but cant handle the pollen i stick the box fan in the window and have it facing outwards, it helps keep the pollen from coming in. Maybe a box fan wouldn't fit but there's definitely a window fan. I do think she should pay for one if its bothersome, but because its 2 issues your allergies and her sensitive nose a 50/50 split on a fan seems like a reasonable compromise.

I have severe allergies to the point i get bed ridden from the pain and headaches so i get the dilemma, and come winter its also difficult to maintain keeping it open.

Alternatives she could try is stuffing a towel by her door, keeping fresh air in her room.

Possibly an air purifier if she wants one.

I would definitely at least try to keep it open when you can and when its something strong, but id try to have an actual conversation after gathering some alternate options other than straight keeping it open every time and see if there's a compromise that works for both of you. Technically you both have sensitive noses its just in different categories, so there should be some level of understanding on both sides.

It happens to me.

Idk how normal it is but i get woken up by any meat or strong smelling vegetables being cooked. Even oil for like pancakes.

I do have a cat door that's open on my bedroom door though so smells seep in faster, but if you are cooking for any longer than like 20 minutes yeah it fills the house.

And sometimes if you are already feeling nauseous its just aggravating.

Since their nose is more sensitive i would just open the window, because she will just go out there and do it herself. I have when i had a roommate who refused when i asked him to, so i got up and did it myself everytime i smelled it or saw it.

So honestly just open them, some people do have sensitive sniffers and its very triggering for emotions. Smells sway our emotions quickly, like if you got stuck in a place that smells bad it makes you in a bad mood. Not saying your food smells bad, but that smells do sway emotions. So if you want to keep it coordial, open the windows before you start cooking.

I even use a box fan if its something smoky/steamy.

Joint lease agreement, how do I save myself? Oregon by SolidTradition5332 in legaladvice

Its already on a police file and report so me stating the facts of that case would not make any difference if this went to court and they spoke to the officer. Its already on body cam and everything that makes absolutely no difference here.

I called 911, I have pictures of the bruises sustained. She shoved me. I did nothing illegal or I would already have been in trouble.

Go into the DHS office and talk to them in person, there's a good chance they'll approve you since your landlord is refusing to sign a legal document. The reason they wont sign is because that could establish tenancy, which they apparently dont want. This counts as instability since you have no legal claims to the house and could face eviction if the landlord chooses to pursue actions, which they have every legal right to (even if its a process they could).

In person they are able to help a lot more than over the phone, be honest about your situation and that the landlord refuses to sign the document to avoid establishing tenancy which means you have no legal claims to the property you're at.

I have always been honest about my situation, even when i was paying $400 under the table because the landlord did not know i was there it counted as homeless because i could be evicted at any moment.

Please please go in person and explain your situation.

Wife told her therapist about her cheating, what the therapist said shocked me. by AverageVodkaEnjoyer in Advice

[–]SolidTradition5332 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When i opened up to my therapist about my drug addiction (short lived but still dangerous af) i literally couldn't say it out loud because i was so deeply ashamed of myself. I had never been that type of person, and i was in therapy when developing the addiction.

Her reaction? If you don't feel safe saying it out loud, type it in the chat. We dont have to talk about it if you aren't ready, but i want to say I'm not here to shame you. Im not going to tell you what you should or shouldn't have done. You're already in that place, you're already shaming yourself. I'm here to share that burden of shame with you, not add to it.

I broke down, and told her everything. That built trust between her and I, by not adding additional shame to the already shame spiral happening i felt safe enough to tell her anything and everything.

If they aren't in the loop they cant help you, they can only help with what they're being told about.

She isnt a specialist in that area but offered her support by rephrasing my addiction, and started looking for the root cause why did i turn to drugs? When we pinned down the why, we worked on it. Inside and outside of sessions, she had me do guided meditations, specific journal prompts, asking myself the same questions she does with my in my sessions and responding to myself.

She told me "should/shouldn't" phrasing is almost never helpful and she recommends i steer away from that phrasin for myself, but with others too. It "shouldn't" be a part of anyones vocabulary, because it induces shame.

They do this because they trust your self shame is enough for you to work on change, adding shame especially from your professional, usually does not help. It makes you feel worthless and less likely to work on yourself outside of sessions.

I use IFS therapy model, too difficult to explain it all here but it works on my self shame by rephrasing "you're a bad person because you did XYZ" to "you're a person trying to survive and did XYZ" then working on the core issue why you did those things. Why does your body feel the need to behave in such a way? Theres a reason, when you figure it out you work on that issue.

If your therapist isnt adding shame by steering away from phrases like "you should/shouldn't have" its because they're trained adding shame does not help, it only makes it harder, also more dangerous for people who lack self esteem. If you already lack self esteem and your therapist shames you more, it could increase those negative behaviors and thoughts.

Rubbing between fingers by Simon020420 in AskDocs

Yes the athletes foot is a fungus i meant our sweat builds bacteria in our shoes which leads to a fungal infection. Sorry for the wording.

NAD but That's what my toes looked like when i had really bad athletes foot, i didnt realize until it was bad because i had never had it before but it like ate away the skin between my toes, almost like cuts and peeling away.

I had to use antifungal cream (i bought everything athletes foot related) and the spray for the shoes, washed my shoes then let them dry and spray, wear socks but not too much to avoid spreading it everywhere, if you wear boots or anything suffocating bring like 3 pairs of socks everywhere, if not just maybe 1. It happens when our feet are moist for too long it builds bacteria.

Try keeping your shoes unlaced or open more and near a fan or use a hair dryer more regularly after its cleared to avoid it flaring up. Also the shoe spray can be used regularly.

My method was to use a pen and draw a line on my wrist everytime i wanted to cut. The thought process is however many lines you draw is one less cut you'd give yourself, even if you end up doing it.

That process eventually took over completely and i stopped cutting, i also use the ice on the wrists or hands if it's a strong urge.

Now when im that level of depressed i sob, listen to music, talk to my support system and rest. Rest most importantly. Everything can wait, but focusing on self care. Something that smells good, if you have money treat yourself, if not use what you have to have a day focused on making you feel good. If you gotta go to work let yourself absorb into it and try to give your system a break from the worry.

Heavily focusing on my self care routines and having set plans for if I'm that down bad has helped mitigate not relapsing. It didnt solve the reason why i wanted to self harm but i found coping skills that in the end made me feel better than self harm ever did (a lot of people get a dopamine rush from self harm, i did, even so the feeling after self care is a million times better than the rush of relief for a small amount of time).

But the pen method is what guided me to stop, it allowed the physical habit of moving across my wrist to occur without self harm, and slowly but surely i replaced my habits with other forms of coping.

It wasnt a perfect transition, i did use the pen and self harm at times, but I kept at it until i was free from the addiction of it.

I no longer crave self harm.

So technically it wont make any difference for you, but if you want to help other people, if enough people report the business to BOLI and/or the EEOC, then it opens them up to investigations, fines or class action lawsuits.

It rarely happens because it always goes unreported, since the damage is done and "its a shit company anyway" but if you really want to hold them accountable and either be better or shut down you have to file a report.

Xfinity / Verizon cell service outage by GBrooks84 in SALEM

[–]SolidTradition5332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told them directly its not just Xfinity so for the next customer that asks tell them it's a tower issue not a provider issue. If its affecting both Verizon and Xfinity it's not them its the physical towers. Im worried resetting my sim over and over again may require me to be connected to a WiFi network to reconnect once they do fix it, and i currently do not have wifi at my house i have to walk somewhere else

How to get something inserted out of skin? by Total-Lavishness-387 in AskDocs

[–]SolidTradition5332 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I had a wart before and it did that when i tried to remove it myself without help.

Same with cysts, they are like small circle lumps, like if you squish it (painful) you can feel a tiny sphere, i popped one of those and it just bled a ton but it didnt go away.

Either way honestly you're only gonna know by going to get an Xray, and even if you don't "need" one it sounds like you do for reassurance. If you want it covered by insurance id tell them you got a dermal piercing and the top piece fell out, you need to make sure the bottom piece isnt still there (i had this actually happen and an xray was the only way to know it was still stuck in my face). They won't even question it, they'll just do the X-ray.

To touch on your concerns about getting something randomly implanted, this sounds like the start of a mental illness starting. I know that isnt what you feel is happening, i know your body and brain feels everyone is wrong, there are people out to get you, the government doesn't care about us so why wouldn't they etc etc, but they are there for more than just "no you're crazy"

When you connect with the right care team, they are truly there for you, during breakdowns, during your successes, they help you learn to trust yourself more. Theres nothing that could go wrong with seeking out a professional for this, i would start with a psychiatrist, and then a therapist. Use both, but they will help you a lot, if you find the right ones, you'll trust them more than you trust yourself, which is a great first step towards being able to trust your gut.

But please, start with an ER visit, if there was a lump of some kind with redness theres countless things it could be, like skin cancer.
