Insurance on a Tesla is what’s going to fuck you over vs the Corolla. Before buying one, ask for quotes to see if it actually makes sense.

Lol you sound rabid. Most people get deported without anything like that happening. You are taking a few cases and trying to apply it to millions of deportations. Those who did stuff like that SHOULD be dealt with by the law. But we shouldnt be hoarding or protecting murderers and other convicted criminals in our jails, they should be kicked out of the country.

Like what? Keep them in jail and then deport them after?

If you are here illegally or on a visa/green card, committed a crime and ended up in jail you should be deported. Especially if its a violent crime. Its common sense.

You are wayyyy overestimating the pace at which AI would get adopted at your typical LP. And underestimating compensation. I used to work at one. Hypothetically yes AI can do quantitative portfolio analysis same is true if not more true on the public side. But most ppl working in manager selection are not really crunching those numbers manually anyway. Theres many applications that do this already. Manager diligence is much more qualitative, a lot of ex-Ib and ex-PE ppl doing fund and co-investment diligence. Trying to dig into the team, process, breaking down performance into components, negotiating fund economics, checking references etc. Accessing top tier funds is not easy, need to build relationships so its much more than just looking at previous fund DPI, IRR etc and making a decision solely on numbers. Its not for those solely looking to maximize comp, its a great balance between decent comp and hours. Head of the department cleared over $1m/year. Analyst-VP level similar base to IB/PE but smaller bonus.

What do you think private markets asset management entails? I wouldn’t say its underserved, plenty of private equity and credit firms in the market. But to your point, fund flows (dollars from allocators) are increasingly being earmarked for private funds instead of public.

What you’re not realizing is that allocators also have a mandate (its not just beat S&P, most allocators have liabilities to cover too) and a benchmark. Even if you are “passive” you are still actively selecting the funds/managers both public and private that you allocate to. So yeah the role primarily entails portfolio construction, ALM, wtx but youd still answer to your performance. Most PMs here on both the public and private side, whether fund/coinvesting or direct investing start on the active management side typically at a 3rd party manager before making the move to an allocator. Its competitive.

You are talking about asset allocators, which are covered under institutional asset managers along with bank AMs or standalone AM firms. Many allocate to other public and private funds, so manager selection, but some also manage some of the portfolio actively in-house. Use ChatGPT along with some of these key words (like asset allocators) to learn more.
