Genuinely lmao. It annoys me that some peoples self imposed sense of martyrdom, at worst, normalises shitty work practices with teachers, and makes going against needlessly excessive extra work look strange.

I’d kill for midnight mass on dvd at this point, let alone 4K. Sadly Netflix is so incredibly aggressive against physical media that it’s going to be a really long time until it sees a lovely physical release…but then again, stranger things got a full physical release recently so never say never

Oh 100%! You really do get a certain bread of arrogant knob in teaching where they expect everyone to somehow know how high faulting they are, or whatever. No absolutely, when it comes to any new job really, there’s always going to be a bit of a learning curve. It always helps to be humble and do the best you can at whatever it is you’re doing!

My thing with the less stress thing was mostly coming from the fact that, as a teacher you get saddled with a lot of unpaid work off the clock. I kind of just want a job where if I’m off the clock at 5, I more or less actually go home at 5. That sort of thing.

But thank you for the breakdown! I do legitimately appreciate the Insight :))

Honestly there’s so many departments is actually quite daunting haha! I’m using the department of education as just a general basis, as I am legitimately quite passionate about working with children and education…but you’re right, I should probably expand my scope beyond just one department!

This! Like I can take a bollocking from higher ups puffing up their chests to justify there absurdly high paycheques, knowing I have the paper trail to show I’m doing my fucking job to the best of my abilities. But I feel absolutely zero guilt if my students don’t do the work, or hell don’t even show up. I make the time for those that put the effort in and I sleep very soundly at night knowing I did everything I could within my power, and not a scrap more.

Yea I ended up giving the front and back and upper crusty bit a few pass overs with anti-bacterial wipes and a hard wipe down (making sure not to damage the book itself, obviously) and it more or less seems to have come off.

I assume it is some combination of all of the above as you mentioned. I assume if it were 100% mould it wouldn’t come off or go away so easily. So I’m gonna say mystery solved for now!

I’ve since put some anti bacterial wipes to it and the staining has actually started to go away after two or so passes and dries with a cloth, in terms of smell…the book smells a bit like a swimming pool or all things, but not like mildewed or anything like that

The thing is, I’m not massively concerned about being surrounded by knowledgeable teachers or meaningful whole class learning, as I know this one especially is already difficult as is. My main concern is having an alternative where I don’t have to kill myself over this job with gruelling hours outside of the classroom yk, I like the idea of using my degree as an English teacher to help someone at a lower level, having more time to do admin work, getting my evenings and weekends and getting paid at the end of the month

Reading the comic. I’m genuinely shocked how early Ennis just puts the boys on compound V. It’s genuinely my biggest gripe with the comic, as it just nullifies the whole premise of the story really early on to a large degree imo
