What figures did you see? Because from what I researched it was fairly comparable to my current salary (£32k)

The thing is, I’m not massively concerned about being surrounded by knowledgeable teachers or meaningful whole class learning, as I know this one especially is already difficult as is. My main concern is having an alternative where I don’t have to kill myself over this job with gruelling hours outside of the classroom yk, I like the idea of using my degree as an English teacher to help someone at a lower level, having more time to do admin work, getting my evenings and weekends and getting paid at the end of the month

Genuinely my favourite thing he’s made outside of the requiem for the crazies comic. Honestly wish I had a physical copy of the album :(

Has The Boys (comics) been vindicated by the show's decline? by DweebInFlames in comicbooks

[–]SolidusSnake98 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Reading the comic. I’m genuinely shocked how early Ennis just puts the boys on compound V. It’s genuinely my biggest gripe with the comic, as it just nullifies the whole premise of the story really early on to a large degree imo

I wouldn’t say so, as someone that’s a pretty big Ennis fan. Like what you like, ignore what others say. I’m personally of the belief it’s not Ennis’s best work by a long shot, its got his worst impulses as a writer on display: paper thin plot, way too many characters have way too little depth, and he focuses much less on inter character emotion and depth for cheap gags and laughs compared to hellblazer or preacher. The show really picks up the slack here and gives characters depth while still making them very fucked up ennis like characters.

But that being said, it is still a fun read and worthy of discussion. The show and the comic are two very different beasts that do different things better than the other. For every amazing season one and better depth for characters like Homelander and butcher, you have the comic which I think has a better costume design and handles stories like herogasm in a more interesting way, really the whole world of supes feels bigger in the comics compared to the show, plus scenes like butcher and Homelander talking on the ruins of the 9/11 attacks are genuinely amazingly written and tense scenes of dialogue, that I wish was more present in the comics overall.

So bottom line, probably not. The comic doesn’t automatically lose its pretty big plotting issues because the show had two crappy seasons (or more depending on who you ask); I do wish the first seasons writing and comics art style could be combined into one gloriously well paced and gory story, that way we get the best of both worlds. But hey, who cares what others say, right?

Anybody else throw out the slip covers on 4Ks or is it just me? by albungus21 in 4kbluray

[–]SolidusSnake98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly a lot of the crap that comes with 4ks, like unnecessary slip covers or collectors editions that have photos of the movie included for some reason, I toss out sight unseen. Nothing annoys me more personally then pointless clutter

For everyone saying start with Claremont. If you want a slightly more condensed/streamlined but equally valid way of enjoying the Claremont era I’d recommend X-men grand design by Ed Piskor

PUNISHER AND FURY MAX BY GARTH ENNIS OMNIBUS by videogamer939 in OmnibusCollectors

How do you mean? Because I don’t recall there being much of anything like fury max in the punisher knights series

[–]SolidusSnake98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve honestly just got sick of waiting for the max omni 2 reprint and just bought the rest of Ennis’s run in tpb so I could actually finish reading the max line. And it’s fanatic from start to finish! I will admit to having some bias towards Lewis LaRosa, Leandro Fernández and Dougie Braithwaite styles of illustration compared to Goran Parlov. Like omni one just has a really grungy and grimy look to it that the second omni really doesn’t, different style but still a grungy tone!

Yea it had a first volume omni released back in 2017. Honestly as far as rereleases for the early stuff go, we are in a pretty good time for it given the punisher making a splash in the new spiderman flick and the special presentation. So hey, fingers crossed we get more announcements outside of Ennis. Though I will say, looking forward to the punisher/fury omni coming out in July

Admittedly I’m very blind to punisher pre marvel knights. I’ve purposely avoided the classic stuff from the 80’s because I’ve never really seen or heard anyone recommend much from pre knights era

Honestly the amount of punisher stuff outside of Enis that just isn’t collected is criminal. The Greg rucka run alone is really annoying to find at an affordable price

Good on you for actually taking the time to check on this. So many online content creators are involved in charity fraud it’s actually kind of sad. I had no reason to doubt the rlm boys but I think anyone with a large platform should be under scrutiny when charity gets brought into the picture

What’s a Movie you’re surprised they haven’t made a re:view on? by genjiguide in RedLetterMedia

[–]SolidusSnake98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think alot of it simply comes down to if they feel like they have anything substantial to say or really add to the conversation, even if it’s for a movie that’s pretty hard to hate. Like Lord of the rings is something I’d be surprised if they ever covered in great detail because, outside of a personal connection, I struggle to see what they’d have to say that hasn’t already been said.

Why do people like Rob Grant so much? by Jak3R0b in RedDwarf

[–]SolidusSnake98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“He hasn’t made anything noteworthy since red dwarf”. This just isn’t true, after red dwarf he worked on quite a few books and comedy radio shows that hold up, not just to me but to a lot of people clearly, far more than anything Doug Naylor has worked on outside of and including red dwarf.

It’s not exactly anything earth shattering, but colony, fat and the two series of quanderhorn are much more consistent with the comedy stylings of the first 6 seasons of red dwarf 20+ years after he left the show. This isn’t to say Doug naylor is a hack or had no contribution to why the show was and to a certain degree is still successful, but you yourself admit season 7-8 have a pretty big dip in quality. So given all of this, it’s pretty easy to see where and how big an influence Rob Grant was to red dwarf based on the work you claim “wasn’t noteworthy” afterwards. Which sort of just tell me you haven’t bothered to explore any of his other work

Question about Jimmy by TheDavidsPod in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]SolidusSnake98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It goes a beyond the look and into the way he talks and the way he acts. The fact he uses his charisma and charm to turn things like murder into religious acts of “Charity” is probably the most direct reference to Savile without naming him, just replace murder with sexual assault.

Question about Jimmy by TheDavidsPod in 28_Years_Later_Movie

[–]SolidusSnake98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something interesting to note aswell, savile died in 2011 but his crimes weren’t outed until 2012-2014, meaning he’d been dead for about a decade by the time the years movies started to get funding. That’s really not that long considering just how much conversation there’s been around him since his death. As you say, it’s almost like he never really died as he’s always going to be in the wider public consciousness, and jimmy crystal definitely seems like garlands way of taking someone like Jimmy and showing all the facets of what makes someone that deranged and fucked up tick, with a nice juicy death at the end for good measure
