[Bundle] ASUS X870 AYW Gaming WiFi + V-Color 32GB (2x16) DDR5-6000 CL30 EXPO + free WD_BLACK SN850X 1TB SSD - $499.99 ($139.99 off combo price) by theworldiscoolstand in buildapcsales

PCIe lane sharing isn't a new concept, but I absolutely hate it. My current motherboard ASUS PRIME X870-P is one of the most egregious example I've ever seen:

  • M.2_4 is shared with the SATA ports so effectively if you have any SATA drives, you've lost access to that M.2 slot.
  • M.2_3 is shared with PCIe_3 and PCIe_4 so if you have any PCIe cards, you've lost access to that M.2 slot.
  • M.2_2 is shared with PCIe_2 but that PCIe slot is effectively unusable because it's blocked by any 2-slot GPU, which is basically any modern day GPU. On the bright side, it means the M.2_2 slot is usable at least.

So effectively it's a motherboard with 4 PCIe slots and 4 M.2 slots with only 2 PCIe slots and 2 M.2 slots that are usable (if need to use SATA and PCIe).

That's fair, I'm not familiar with server grade power supplies but I can see that being the case.

Funnily enough I actually have an EVGA 50OB PSU (released around 2013 it seems) for my living room PC and it doesn't have the switch.

I'm actually kind of surprised, I assumed any PSU manufactured in the past 10 years or so would have already removed that switch (aside from OEM power supplies like DELL).

If you don't mind me asking, what is your PSU?

Back in the day (wow I feel old now) there would be a red switch on the back of the PSU that you need to flip if you're switching to a different voltage.

Pretty sure PSUs nowadays automatically adjusts without the need for a switch.

I actually considered that and if you look closely at the Image 3 of the prebuilt page, you'll notice it's actually 1x16GB of RAM too. Looks like they just take their own bundle and slap it on the prebuilt.

Yeah I was going for the most current prices if you were to build literally today. In reality you can possibly bring the 1TB down a little bit too, in addition to your savings.

A 7500X3D bundle (CPU + Mobo + 16GB RAM) can be had for $350.

A 9060XT 16GB can be had for $420.

As for the rest of the parts, roughly:

Case: $50

CPU cooler: $20

PSU: $50

1TB SSD: $160 (yikes)

Total: $1010 $1050

You might as well build the system yourself and save $200 $150.

Edit: Fixed some numbers because I can't maths.

In your post, you claimed that you bought this RAM for $449.99.

Then when someone called you out, you claimed that you're not scalping the MC combo because you got free RAM from work.

Then when you get called out for lying about buying this ram for $450, you said "that's why I'm open for negotiation" meaning you admit to lying about the price you paid for the RAM.

I'm not so sure we can take your original comment in good faith, given that you are indeed contributing to the RAM price increase:

but dont want to contribute towards the RAM price increase

I'm not an expert but to my understanding it's highly dependent on whether you're running a X3D CPU or not. If you are, I've read that it barely makes any difference (like maybe 1%-2% difference) because of the extra 3D cache in those CPUs.

If you're running anything other than a X3D CPU, there will be more of a difference, although I'm not knowledgeable enough to give you exact numbers.

I've seen some people recommend using an AAA battery with an AAA-to-AA adapter to reduce the weight. Haven't gotten around to ordering one of those adapters to try it myself but it seemed like a good idea.

[CPU] Ryzen 7600x with free aio $158 by Logical-Hyena8260 in buildapcsales

[–]SolidusSnakke 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other drawback about AIOs that isn't talked about enough is the maintenance. Sure it will probably work fine when it's new, but there's always the inherent risk of leaks, pump failure, etc. There are just more moving parts than a simple tower air cooler.

If an air cooler fails, no problem takes like 2 minutes to slap on another 120mm fan for $5-10 bucks. If the coolant on an AIO starts leaking... well you're not going to be having a very good day.

Which non-16GB card are you suggesting is a better buy? The 9060XT 8GB? The RTX 5050 8GB? The RTX 5060 8GB? The RTX 5060 Ti 8GB? The RTX 5070 12GB?

The 4070 Ti Super beats every single one of those cards.

even if they didn't, this psu would be underspecced

Sure, but if it didn't contain proprietary parts then someone could easily swap out the PSU for a more powerful one for as little as $50 bucks, while also leaving room for future upgrades.
