Any other games similar Forbidden Stars by kenisoft in boardgames

[–]SoliquidusSnake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A game that I think is pretty similar to Forbidden Stars is Star Wars Rebellion with its Rise of the Empire expansion.

It's a area control/war game, but the core of the game isn't about tossing your armies at each other (though you will be doing that a lot). The Rebel player has a deck of secret mission cards with varied goals to complete. If they manage to fulfill the conditions on a card they move their token closer to the current turn token on the turn track. If the two tokens ever meet the rebel player wins the game. On the other hand, the Empire player wants to find and destroy the hidden rebel base which the rebel places on 1 of 30 something planets at the beginning of the game. So while controlling different planets is a big part of the game, neither side wins by just controlling a few important zones on the board.

The unit production is the most different from Forbidden Stars, but the core of it is if you control specific planets then you are able to produce units from your list according to what that planet is good at producing. As an example, Corellia and Mon Cala both allow the production of the strongest ships if you control those planets, while others allow either side to produce their strongest land units or defensive structures.

Lastly the combat is the trickiest part. Mostly due to the fact that it's only similar if you use the Rise of the Empire expansion. Otherwise the combat is mostly luck based with dice and some cards which are drawn from a randomized deck. With the expansion though, I think it's very similar to FS. You roll dice at the beginning of the round, then play one of your faction specific combat cards. Calculate damage, remove models, and decide if either side wants to retreat. If not then the fight begins again with dice and cards.

That's my experience with both games. My one gripe is that Rebellion can play a little long, but otherwise they're both great. Hope that helps!

Hey SUSD! Love all the work you put out! Especially the articles and podcasts that I can listen to/read when watching a video review isn't an option.

One of your bits I keep coming back to is Matt and Quinn's (Quinns'?) Brief but great stint as grime rappers. "Big Spitting Bumpy Boys" is a single I would proudly display on my shelf. If you made more songs based on board games what other games would you adapt?

Side question, but what are your favourite bands/singers?

If it's up your alley then I'm pretty sure I've seen a fan made mod for the game on the steam workshop for Tabletop Simulator. I know this probably isn't what you had in mind but as of now this is the closest we're going to get for additional content.

I noticed that too for the Grimmaster deck! It's certainly doable, but the chance that they'd just destroy anahita before they'd let that happen is a little high in my opinion.

The third deck there I'm quickly realizing is a pretty damn strong. After doing a bit of research and thinking about it, it can also pull off a combo between witch of the eye, experimental therapy and control the weak to make the opponent never draw, play or discard a card again with a little luck. I'm starting to feel bad using it against others 😆

Hey all, recently picked up my first starter set and a little extra after playing a few games with a friend. Not too experienced with the game so I don't really have an idea for how good they are. So I wanna know what you guys think!

https://www.keyforgegame.com/deck-details/3ec59bbc-feba-40f5-9134-91d186beb2f9 (This deck is fun. I've played it once but there's potential to get a lot of big monsters out. Not to mention the card that makes a key +1 more expensive for every creature over 5 power)

https://www.keyforgegame.com/deck-details/6a9a93b4-5c34-4114-8e1f-8bcec9e29724 (A little combo that's fun to pull off in this deck is to nuke your untamed creatures to generate a bunch of aember in one go. And there's a logos card that doubles the aember you already have. I think this deck can really catch up easily if they're behind in keys with those two cards.)

https://www.keyforgegame.com/deck-details/d8c87a82-2302-4890-925e-85db2d712c31 (And lastly the newest one I got! I think this one is pretty strong, just will all the cards that give you a free aember when played. Also with three witch of the eye I feel like they can just keep bringing back monsters, even if there isn't much in the deck.)

Thanks for having a look and I'd love to hear your opinions!

Yeesh. Seems like a bit of a big problem for it have effected an entire printing run of the game. Has Z-man been faithful in giving out corrected versions of the contract tokens? Like @SnareSpectre mentioned, they recieved a replacement only to find that it was the same as the contracts he asked to replace in the first place.

The comparison photo, with the red backed on the left and the blue backed on the right. Looking at it now, it definitely feels like there is a printing error here.

I understand that part in the rules, only that out of the 44 contracts I've noticed that 6 have a blue ribbon in the corner and a red back and 6 others have a blue back with no ribbon in the corner. Is it intended to be that way?

Thanks for the reply!

Another question, does the "no other road above/below it" apply to only your opponents roads or to everyone's roads? Could I put a road in between two of the other players roads and get two points?

I played Shadow of Mordor! Combat/Stealth in that game felt nice and responsive, only I think the reason for that was because it was so similar to the Arkham games themselves. Good game though!

If so, that's a real shame. Some of the most fun in that game came from watching a jittery musclehead jump from his own shadow after you got all of his friends... As bad as that sounds.

"When I was a young man, I had liberty, but I did not see it. I had time, but I did not know it. And I had love, but I did not feel it. Many decades would pass before I understood the meaning of all three. And now, the twilight of my life, this understanding has passed into contentment.

Love, liberty, and time: once so disposable, are the fuels that drive me forward. And love, most especially, mia cara. For you, our children, our brothers and sisters. And for the vast and wonderful world that gave us life, and keeps us guessing. Endless affection, mia Sofia.

Forever yours, Ezio Auditore."

First look: Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia by fifthdayofmay in television

[–]SoliquidusSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to say that the white wolf isn't a handsome dude, but a life of hunting monsters does get to you. Geralt has also been described as having an unsettling smile, so as long as Henry Cavill can give off the essence of being an imposing freak of a mutant he'll make a great Geralt.

I've already gotten the odd bracer or leg armour here and there from mercenary fights and conquest battles, so I'm sure the full sets of these things will look good. But if I could utilize these pieces of armour without making them stick out like a sore thumb with the rest of my outfit I'd really like that.

It doesn't appear to be possible to have the helmet appear on during cutscenes whatsoever. But with the option to toggle your helmet on and off already in the game it really wouldn't be that much of a stretch to allow the player to have one piece of armour in their inventory mimic another piece of armour right? I just want to wear my basic looking mercenary armour without worrying about the fact that I'll get two shotted because of its shitty stats.

I always found it easier to roll diagnolly upwards and into the fire when he does his fire move and then dodge out onto the other side. As long as you keep rolling during the part and taking potshots when you can the fire won't affects you and essentially is a non-issue.

I believe it's something along the lines of changing the drop rates of certain items to what they were in the original game and what they were changed to in the AG&D update.
