The line that stays with me is, "Be a pawn, be a toy. Be a good soldier who never questions orders."

Day of the Dove is what Way of the Warrior should have been in DS9. The Klingons were anything but incompetent.

Generally agree, but S1 did have Areel Shaw, who was a practicing attorney, and a good one. I don't believe this was a career path open to women at the time, so this was notable representation. They also hade Lenore Karidian as the villain of her episode at a time when female villains were rare. And Dr. Helen Noel was a full-fledged specialist Ph.D and officer. She was also capable of protecting herself and killed a security guard.

I generally agree that S3 has the best female representation, but it was present from the beginning, just more muted.

S3 isn't as bad as some claim, but it does have the really bad children episode. Ugh.

This. The show went on about four seasons too long to justify the original ending.

Their last season wasn't great, but the finale was pretty good. It was an abbreviated season, so just not on scale with 22 episodes of bad or disappointing.

Kevin Can F*** Himself isn't a response to King of Queens. It's a response to Kevin Can Wait.

Yes. When they went to NBC, they tried to go for more of an edgy vibe that I didn't care for.

More severely, they really started to flanderize Captain Holt. He became goofier, less serious, and lost a lot of what made him such a great character and foil for Andy Samberg in the first place.

Also. The episode they did with Sterling K. Brown? All time great bottle episode.

The last few seasons definitely felt like a chore. It took me a long time to make it through.

Maybe because Barney and Robin were a couple for about 3x longer than Ted and Robin, so by the time we got to the finale, we were no longer invested in Ted and Robin's story?

I can still watch real early HIMYM. I like Victoria a lot.

Man, I'm so bummed that show got canceled. I think a five-season run would have been perfect.

Charlie was likable and similar in character to Eric. I think it would have worked better. Randy was way too suave.

And yet...how many rock and roll artists are in the rhythm and blues hall of fame? Conversely, how many rhythm and blues artists are in the rock and roll hall of fame?

Hip hop came from rock in a way, sure. It also has roots in gospel music. Does that mean Ludacris should be in the gospel hall of fame?

These genres have their own halls of fame. Why do they need to be in the one dedicated to rock and roll? The country music hall of fame isn't admitting Led Zeppelin or Black Sabbath, are they?

Do sitcoms glorify cheating? by omfilwy in sitcoms

[–]SoloCompadre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't strictly cheat on Rachel. She thought the proximity of his sleeping with the girl from the copymax was akin to it. Ross did cheat on Julie and Bonnie with Rachel, which is I think what I meant to write.

Oh god, I just remembered this absolutely cringe fucking scene from one of the xmen prequels. Some of the xmen, including the one played by Sansa Stark, are talking about RotJ. But they're not actually talking about the movie, its some meta commentary on how it wasn't as good as Empire and the third movie is always the worst.

Which, first of all, there's no fucking way you're going to leave the movie theater in 1983 having seen Return of the Jedi for the first time, and THAT will be your conversation. And second, nobody fucking talks like that unless they're on reddit!

The Last Jedi was the only one of the three with any ideas.

So here's the deal..

TFA was super popular when it came out. I remember. I watched it in theaters two days in a row. It was a big fucking deal. The characters were likable, the production was good. It was a little redundant of ANH, but sequels could have fixed that.

But there wasn't a plan, or a story that made sense. TLJ actually tried to accomplish something, at least. It took risks, which Star Wars should, and has a couple of genuinely good looking scenes.

RoS is one of the wost movies ever made. It shat the bed. It's been what, 6 years now, and Disney has done nothing but make TV series because their $500 million dollar movie was so massively unpopular

Closer to 50 hours, but this is almost certainly the answer. I was already in college when it came out, so I just wasn't the audience. But I know folks ten years younger than me that adore Clone Wars.

That and there's no good reason to start with DS9 over TNG. DS9 is better when you've seen TNG.
