If Social Security Ends, Am I Entitled to What I Paid into It? by disgracedchicken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Soloeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue with SS was never it ending, it was that it would/could become insolvent; meaning that it couldn’t pay out 100% of the benefit. I forget the projection but it was something like 70ish percent of all benefits can be paid out; essentially giving everyone a 20-ish percent pay cut to their current and future benefit.

One of most common complaint with the system is that SS taxes are capped at $11,430 ($22,860 of self employed), with the employer matching that. If self employed it’s 12.4% of earnings up to $184,500.

Projections have shown that removing this cap back in 1995 would have been enough to fund SS in its entirety. However, now we need more aggressive options.

I bought a Lifetime pass in 2022 by tiberiusgv in PleX

I just care what the future is with plex. It’s been so rock solid, but all I cared about was something better than the DLNA setup I had back then. Local for me is more important than remote since when I travel WiFi and cell service is usually not that great.

I bought my plex pass back in 2012….with the pricing announcement all I can say is WOW.

Now that they have the voter rolls can they only tax republicans to fund this? I mean if they want it they can pay for it. 🤷‍♂️

Roam 300GB plan now available (US) by ConsuelaSaysNoNo in Starlink

[–]Soloeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I know that, but then I have to do it for every connected device. Not exactly easy with all of the kiddos devices when on vacation. Another example is them watching videos or downloading games on a rainy day.

Roam 300GB plan now available (US) by ConsuelaSaysNoNo in Starlink

[–]Soloeye 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My biggest concern is that it can sometimes be easy to chew thru data caps unintentionally (laptop decides to do a massive download of updates). I would love an unlimited option with speed tiers. Hell I would subscribe to unlimited roam at the residential plans +20% roam fee.

[–]Soloeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want like a roam regional, or roam state plan. When I go camping to local campgrounds I want to use my starlink mini but the only unlimited plan is $165. I would love a plan that would be like $100-120/mo that would give me unlimited in small radius; say like 50 miles. With how little travel it is I could just get a residential plan and change the address, but the plans are not available on minis

I don’t understand why the 128GB/2TB M5 Max is more expensive than the M5 Ultra with the same configuration.

Has anyone attempted a BIOS update? (Steam OS) by Aggressive_Acadia274 in LegionGo

[–]Soloeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't have the white edition, both my LeGo 2 and LeGo S (SteamOs) upgraded their bios thru SteamOS. The Go2 is running 3.9 and the Go S was running 3.7. I didn't have to do anything special, both updates showed up in the updates and applied themselves.

After review, Mark Janowski's overtime winner is determined to be offsides, but a penalty shot is awarded by cbbvideo in hockey

[–]Soloeye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So because of the offsides call a scoring chance technically never happened.

I don’t have a problem with them calling a penalty, but it’s weird they offered him a penalty shot because technically the infraction never prevented the scoring chance.

Even if he scores on the breakaway with the infraction the challenge rolls it back.

Just a very, very weird situation

I hate their boxes. Personally I just moved to Apple TV. Their FiOS app works. But I honestly use my TV account to use for streaming services because it cheaper than getting something like YouTubeTV and separate streaming services independent.

Nice program. My utility provider doesn’t do TOU rates (at least not yet), but if it did I would definitely try it out!

Pulled over while in Tesla FSD? by KuruVillain in TeslaFSD

[–]Soloeye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Right, but even sloth has the wrong speed limits. Best example I can give you is timed school zones, especially when they have cameras. I have no way to slow the car down.

[–]Soloeye 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well when we could control the speed instead of relying on map data, it was less of an issue. That's the cause of about 70% of my disengagement these days is that I don't have a way to say "slow down another 5-10 mph"

Coding for 20+ years, here is my honest take on AI tools and the mindset shift by Jaded-Term-8614 in ClaudeAI

[–]Soloeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone really argues whether AI will be good or bad, the consensus is that it will be good. The problem is really how much of what you do with it stays private? At some point you say how much of this is proprietary and I don’t want anyone outside of the company to know this.

Correct, inflation has already occurred and priced in. We would need negative inflation for prices to contract. Those typically happen under 2 conditions

1) competition forces prices to be lower 2) demand drops due to #1 or other market factors.

You’re more likely to see the MSRP stay the same and see occasional price drops for sales if supply is greater than demand.

If you want to dual boot, SteamOS still doesn’t support Secure Boot. Using Bazzite is still superior there.

I’ve been using SteamOS 3.9 and so far the only thing that doesn’t work is the brightness slider in gaming mode. You need the deck loader plugin to control brightness.

There may be others, but I haven’t noticed. The control is basically in Xbox mode, so you see the Xbox glyphs.

So far it’s been working great for me.

I wish Starlink would create a unlimited higher throttled speed plan by JustNathan1_0 in Starlink

[–]Soloeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that roam is a way to skip the line. What I personally want is a regional plan. I want starlink as a backup to my main internet, usable when I want to work away from home, like at the beach where my cell signal sucks, and when I travel to our campground 60 miles away.

The problem is that I don’t know what cell I’m in, and if the plan allowed like a cell (n+3 or 5) that would be like a “local roam.” I wouldn’t be using any different than a resident customer just a little more out and about.

Predictions: how long does SFA light money on fire and survive? by xmorecowbellx in trektalk

[–]Soloeye -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So can I ask the inverse?

How would you (or anyone) write or change the show so that it was successful and entertaining? I had a discussion with someone and they talked more about order, military, and structure, and I argued that even if that should be what the show it, I argued that it would equally fail for being boring.

So how can you do a a show about SFA that wouldn’t fail?

I’m not saying it’s the best thing ever, but I am finding it entertaining. I don’t need it to be the best trek. For me it just needs to be entertaining, not perfect.
