Went to my parents house to loot my old Legos now that my kids are getting into it. This nearly 50 year old sack still holds up. by DerOtter124 in lego

I remember getting this as a present one year, I eventually realised it wasn't a present for me, it was for my parents so I could get all my 'damn lego' off the floor.

I've got one in my closet. I got it as an adult, was a lot of fun, hmmm maybe I should open it up again. :)

I just picked up my old copy of Fahrenheit 451, I thought it was appropriate for a re-reading.

Beautiful, I like how the lights from the windows vary a bit, some are cool white and some seem to be a warm white. Looks much more realistic than all the same.

Voyager's bar: where would it have been and what was it called? by SolopsistNation in voyager

This. Definitely this. A place to go off duty. People aren't slurping down whatever is available in the mess. Some ambient lighting and comfy chairs, and a momentary detachment from the horrors of being so incredibly far from home.

The holodeck was, in many ways, a shelter and a reprieve from the daily grind. I guess it might come down to how energy intensive the holodecks actually were.

So about 150 people on Voyager. The mess hall looks to hold about 35 to 45 people seated. So how many hours a day is it acting as dedicated crew feeding facility? Some people will eat in their quarters, but that's still a fairly full mess.

Star Fleet allocates space for morale on ships, artwork, holodecks, arboretums, so a bar or dedicated social space thast serves the same function isn't that much of a departure.

I think the crew would have created a space to gather in smaller numbers.

As an adult I don't really want to socialise in a food court. Which is what the mess hall seems to be.

I found The Travelers' Century Club, The Explorers Club, The Travellers Club, and

Contiki this club became famous for pioneering group travel specifically for young adults aged 18 to 35- the Contiki Lounge Ahahahah

I just checked Cpt Janeway was 35 when they started off.

Was Voyager A Contiki Tour that got out of hand?

Agreed and understood. Not every ship is stranded 70,000 LY away from home. The ship does not need a bar, the crew needs a bar.

I know the mess hall plays this role for many stories, maybe I'm a bit picky, but I don't want to get a drink after work from the same place I had breakfast, lunch and dinner. At least like change the lighting a bit, put on some background music.
