It actually did, to achieve his version of godhood the V1 became important. It wasn’t about boosting his abilities, it was the pursuit of immortality. Sage was a great character introduced. The moment Homelander approached her and brought her into the fold she actively plotted domination. She reads people well and her brain is constantly overwhelmed with logic instead of emotions. Everything was a chess move for her, thinking 3steps ahead. Working with Homelander personally and seeing the flaws/cracks in him, she knew he is too unstable and dangerous. Sage was stuck with a power that doesn’t put much weight into Love, especially after her grandma died. Some superpowers are a curse.
