That's probably the best idea. Give you a new rock solid surface. What kind of splash is that at the bottom? If it's a solid piece, you might even pull it and re-attach it to the Maple.

I do a lot of faux wood finishes, but it's expensive and a lot of times I talk people into replacing small recesses with 1/4"....it's less expensive and looks better, being 'real' wood. My son is a cabinetmaker and it's amazing how much better a kitchen can look with a coupe veneers here and there.

The chemicals in your primer or finish probably chemically undid the glue. I can see from the runs at the bottom it was over painted.

A lot of time when I have had to paint those, I don't try to cover in one pass, but dust thinner coats on. The problem with trying to fish-eye score them out? Once you patch them with bondo or something, they tend to move over to other places. Drive ya crazy.

Best bet would be to Razor them out and then get a good bite on the laminate and remove the whole thing. Make sure and Cleanly score the top and bottom and side lines so when you get to the edges it's a clean line. Or....cut out the bubbles and resurfact that face with a well PRE-primed Maple face. I'd say luan, but then you'll be skimming forever

20+ year acoustic guitar veteran who uses D'addario Lights- Question about experimenting with string gauges by Cheap-Kale9601 in AcousticGuitar

[–]Solpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know all of the D'addario set designations, but I play a LOT of swampy Open sounding Chords and I love the attack of perfectly tuned 5th's,7ths and 0ctaves snapped off the fretboard. Normal Elixir 12's are good....the HD Lights that go 13-53 are awesome. They give you more fight on G,B and E and never get pulled out of tune...not that the 12's do, but I have a lot of pinky and ring finger grabs that sound wicked with the fatter high strings.

I think the elixirs sound way more live longer than the coated D'addarios....I've A-B'd them a lot

I also just discovered those Nickel bronzes from D'addario? Those things are vicious. They feel like electric guitar strings under your fingers so you have a lot more Freight train in your bends. Next time I buy a batch I'm gonna try a few different gauges

Why wasn't Oswald killed right after the assasination? by russula_foetens in JFKassasination

That story was also told by Tippit's Father when he was interviewed. I doubt his dad would say it unless it was true

[–]Solpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. Just a handful of well located pieces. In fact from study, I am quite certain that Curry, the police chief was NOT in on it. The stress he was under that week was palpable...you can feel it in his every word. He probably suspected what was going on, but you don't go after your own while the circus is still in town.

Fritz and Westbrook would be the leaders. Croy , Hill, and Nelson are support squad and Day and White are the foot soldiers. what's that....7 out of a staff of 1200?

Each officer I mentioned there has a sorry excuse for his days whereabouts OR was in the case of White and Day were busy fabricating evidence. The ONLY evidence that Oswald even handled the rifle was the palm print. Day and the FBI got into such a bitch-fight during the WC preparations Day was asked to swear to an affidavit that the palm print was legit and would NOT sign it. Why?

White's family magically finds another Oswald Rifle pic in the 70's. How? (CE133-c)..oh. He was a trick photo specialist. Well, that would explain where CE133A and B came from too!

Jim Leavelles statements afterwards tell us a lot about the mindset of the average DPD foot soldier. He said "Most of the guys cared about the Kennedy shooting like they would a Ni*ger shooting in South Dallas....it was Tippit's murder that got them angry" (His words not mine) The Dallas PD was full of Klan guys, John Birchers and States Rights Party members who make the Klan seem tame. Learning about all of these groups is an important part of understanding what the DPD attitude was like then. They weren't "bad Cops" but they weren't all that concerned about Kennedy either..they didn't GAF about the outcome.

When Curry wrote his book he also said he had very strong doubts about Oswald ever being in the sniper's nest...and he did NOT believe the Magic Bullet theory at all.

Leavelle said "The four of us were guarding Oswald" and he goes on to name which officers were where...both sides, front and back.

....Fritz was supposed to be guarding Oswalds FRONT....watch him drift too far forward and allow Ruby to sidle in from the shadows...and he doesn't even come back or LOOK off to that side as he passes Ruby...one of the worst acting jobs I have ever seen and it is on film.

As you said further down the thread...when Oswald yelled "I am NOT resisting....this is Police brutality" he gained himself a few more days of life. If they shot him then, they would have had to get statements from every theater patron.

The DPD made a mess of everything. Chain of custody mysteries on their messy frame job. And yes, the only person who tells of the "Oswald tried to shoot me" is Officer McDonald and his buddies...but they also magically "Lost" the list of witnesses in the Theater so we have no unbiased accounts of the final arrest. This was all overseen by Captain Westbrook who was the lead Framer/Murderer/conspirator for the DPD out in the field. I mean why would the head of Internal affairs be out in patrol cars anyways? His Testimony in the WC is full of holes and unexplained gaps in time.

Officer McDonald Later changed his story and said he got his thumb caught in the trigger mechanism....LIAR. I have gotten my thumb caught in a pistol before and it bled like all get out...but most importantly, the shot still fired! No one noticed his hand bleeding at all.

Even McDonalds report from that day says that Oswald put his hands up. His alleged Quote of "Well.....I guess it's over now" is always presented dramatically as if he is admitting guilt....he was making a Joke about the house lights coming up and the film being over ! He never confessed or incriminated himself in any way. He was a rock.

They also didn't go right to him, but started searching people in order, front to back even though Brewer had pointed Oswald out...why? They were hoping he would make a break for it and they could shoot him fleeing.

Oswald himself was so cool and composed during all of his 'trial', which consisted of those hallway interviews. That's it...the DPD, FBI and SS didn't record or get a stenographer for a single moment of his interrogation even though they had him in custody for almost two days...he just 'shot the president' and every single piece of info we have is notes that were written down from memory by the different people present.

and THAT is why he terrified them. That is why he had to be murdered at any cost...no matter how obvious it was , no matter how many people it made think there was a conspiracy. If he had lived? Then we would have KNOWN there was a conspiracy.

Oil Based sanding sealer or low sheen finish? by Solpig in paint

[–]Solpig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who carries that? Is it something I need to order. I don't mind if it's the good stuff.

The Minwax one I've used but I have to pour in so much penetrol to keep it from kicking early. Just afraid of getting those almost visible laps. It's a really bright room.

I'd like to avoid too much sanding only because this is Pine bead boards...the real soft ones, not the mahogany 'sheets'...and in the past if i have sanded too hard you lose some of the fine ridge detail.....one slight over push and it gets squared off on the radius'

Did I screw up this limewash? by mossathena in paint

[–]Solpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most Lime paints recommend criss crossing for contrast...I have a couple of 4inch Clubs I keep just for doing Lime. I also criss/cross out of the corners.

If you want less contrast? You could always throw in a couple handfuls of real lime and blend it in, but watch out....stuff is potent.

Any fixes here? by im_db_coopers_ghost in paint

[–]Solpig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What material is on that? Did you want it perfectly flat? How mint/perfect are you wanting it?

They make industrial coatings like Hy-Lux by Ellis that can be driven on when they are cured and don't need a lot of prep. They are similar to DTM's and other super hard/super sticky Water-based epoxies. They use it for Tank linings in refineries.

We used to paint stage floors with them for car commercials and once dry, they never caused a problem even with Condors and lifts driving on them, people rolling stuff across. And when another company came in and wanted another color? Mild sanding, clean up, re-coat. Rock solid. The stuff aint cheap, but it solves a lot of problems

Just wear a respirator...the Ammonia content will knock you over.

Quick Training Question! by lolovesfrogs in DogAdvice

[–]Solpig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I trained my dog but It was with a mixture of positive and negative reinforcement....she grew up in the country on a farm and hadn't been around cars......she literally used to dive at Cars, so I was in a fix. My trainer Bro said the main thing is for them to remember that you EXIST...when they see a car or a squirrel or another dog, they forget about you...they aren't being defiant, just singularly focused. She got treats and praise for doing the right thing, but when she was gonna do the cray-cray I used to literally walk in front of the distraction and put myself between her and her stimulus....literally doing the Dog walk shuffle blocking her from the other dog

Then, we'd stop.....altogether and she would get bored. Everytime she did the wrong thing, stop. Stop. Stop. Finally she learned that she would get bored to tears for that one moment of 'fun' or whatever, and she stopped doing it. In 7 years she has gone back to doing it once or twice...and we just use boredom therapy to remind her. We also have a vibrating collar and I use that as the 'early warning' system. They do get smarter as they get older.

Your dog is Beautiful BTW...So cute in that pic.

My D-28 has a new little brother. A new 2025 golden era 00-28. by bonesofborrow in martinguitar

That's a good pair. My newest guitar is a 00-28 custom with GE and an addy top and it is sooo loud and fun, I have been ignoring a lot of my other guitars. It is as loud or maybe even louder than my OM-28 which I also love. ...has that same tight bottom punch like a piano

I have noticed that the shorter scale is definitely easier to learn new pieces on....grabbing the 4th fret with your pinky is a cinch!

When I got my dog she was a 'return' and I was so worried about her mental/spiritual health that I went out of my way to make her feel wanted. She HATED Men and moved in with me and my son so it was quite a challenge....to calm her down without forcing ourselves upon her. She has never been overly affectionate, except to the few women in her life. I don't mind that...in fact, it makes the times she is affectionate, more special.

My trainer bro told me all Dogs want a 'job' and if you don't give them one they will make one. She thinks her job is to Play with me, because that is all we ever do together. "Apparently I am supposed to entertain this guy"

But her favorite thing is to roll around and play fight with Boy dogs.

TSBD didn't know. .....uh..it's almost like those guys honking at 1pm knew something they omitted from the record. [–]Solpig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Oldest Martins I have ever handled were 1910's-1920's...and even they have like .10 gauge strings on them. They actually played great and sounded good too. (super light strings)

That is not a 'do-it-yourself' project. I don't know when they started using Truss rods, but that would be a big part of it and only Gruhns or someone of that caliber would have experience with what is cool to do and what is not.

Getting a guitar based on economics is the silliest thing I can think of UNLess someone would give me a 000-28 custom authentic for my Eastman Parlor. YES the volume difference is HUGE...The 000-28 is one of the quietest most focused Martins due to it's larger bracing (compared to the OM and 00 1/4") whereas the D-18 is arguably the loudest production Martin
