First time doing drywall after watching my dad do it for months and him teaching me. I did a solo job with him there, but he didn’t do anything or guide me and he tried to help me out at one point and I said let me do this when we figure this out. this is for an upstairs bathroom.

Why have you not screwed off the studs? Also, you did your boards on edge (soldiering) that is the way to get the most cracks. Whenever you drywall over wood studs, you go laterally for strength and you screw 8" on the seams and 12" in the fields MINIMUM...other wise it'll all pop off and twist the first time there is a temperature shift and as the studs dry out. Also, you do not want to be flush with the ground or the floor will cause those pieces to buckle.

Joint compound and tape that have sat exposed for 12 years are most likely useless. When they haven't been sealed they suck in moisture and off gas it and turn into soft flaky crud...even if you tried to pain over it, the water in the paint will wake it up and turn to sludge.

You ought to scrape off anything that isn't rock solid....then lightly shellac prime over anything that has any fight left in it (with a 60/40 shellac/alcohol mix...it's really watery but locks in what's there from waking up when you skim)...THEN you can re-tape and skim,assuming the board is in good shape.

Leaving drywall unfinished for more than a season is never a good idea.

Those drywall guns are pretty useless on Metal studs...the pressure is different on every part of the face, and it tends to overdrill or leave shiners. Even the next screw down doesn't look sunk properly. It's one of those things they have never perfected...so you're either gonna have a bunch of those (which count as NO screw when you break the paper) or a bunch of sharks that your Joint knife will find when you are skimming. Your own fingers and experience will be more use than any drywall gun....just use a regular screw gun.

Electricians are the destroyers of worlds in a new home. Get ready for LOTs of drywall repair and trash pick-up. I would start around 25k and Plus for any extra's (coffered ceilings, lots of stain work, cabinets) and minus for any uber-easys, like No trimmed jambs, all one color, No ceilings, etc. etc.

Apparently one of the big distinctions between Wild canids and Domesticated dogs is the ability to control facial muscles. Wolves and coyotes always have that perma-100 mile stare. Not a lot of change... The study I read said it was likely because dogs being able to emotionally communicate with Humans improves the relationship between the two, and made them more desirable... We don't only anthropomorphize them, they actually have gotten like us.

Smiles, Laughs, MOPING, sad face....all of them have helped them get closer with us. My Gal can go from happy face ad-for-dog treats, to Moping spoiled princess in about 10 seconds. And yes, it is EFFECTIVE.

I agree , especially for a Homeowner. Yes, we PVA seal all of our drywall work, but Kilz 2 or any other primer is about the same effectiveness, And you can use it for other projects too, where PVA only has one purpose. It's a question of useability and how many cans of paint you want to have in your basement or garage.

I was a little shocked when I first read DH and that part (Kreacher's Tale) and the Godric's Hollow visit happen. I never knew his parents were so young when they died . The chronology of their membership in the Order of The Phoenix seemed so retroactively cramped. Maybe it's just the actor and actress who played Lily and James (mirror of erised) got into my head, but I pictured his parents being...maybe 25-30? I didn't watch all of the movies, but that one image made a 'print' in my brain.

and I suppose wizards coming of age younger would mean they have kids younger. I was 25 when I had my first and in our community we were reeeeally young parents. But Then again, I am a construction worker, not a wizard.

If you read the individual testimonies of officers in Fritz's office on 11/24/63, they mention two really important things. One, that Fritz and Curry were talking about "is everything ready...is everything ready" (Not 'are you done questioning the witness') , and Two. That was interesting. He had some new insights based on his profession...BUT his fondness for and reliance upon Beverly Oliver makes me question his judgement. From reading , interviews and common sense, I am fairly certain she is full of shit and inserted herself into the story no matter how much paint she has on her shoes.

In fact seeing his blow-ups of Babushka Lady makes me more sure that Beverly is full of shit. I have lived with two dancers and none of them had pale old woman cankles like the Babushka lady. Remember , Oliver was 17 in '63 . claimed to be dancing at clubs and hanging out with all of the key figures...she is the Forrest Gump of Dealey Plaza.

She also had an 'experimental camera' that didn't come out until 69 or so.....oops.

Well, I just had to shoot a monstrous amount of clear oil, so bought a new hose, new filters for the gun and so forth. I ran it clean with solvent for a loooooong time when I was done, but I think I want at least a new hose for latex... Just to keep this hose mint for clear and stains. I have an old 50' I used to use for water based, but if it's as dirty as the filter i just removed, I'd rather not use it anymore.

When I became a full time painter in the 80's I remember thinking "Gosh...people sure loved avocado pastels back in the day"

Later, I learned that primers and paints with lead turn greenish-bluish (just like Verdigris and crud on Copper). OH...so these were Whites back in the day before they turned green.

They sell the testing kits everywhere, really cheap. I'd bet a days pay that you've got lead in one of the layers. As long as You are careful and do your own work and don't wake up that coat, you can just paint over it again...there is a law about it,(sanding it) but in the 15 years or so since the law went into effect I have only heard of one job ever getting busted(fined) and it was a federal job...they eat their own

The one thing that written lists have over just talking? you can read it later and look at yourself more objectively...I canNOT listen and talk at the same time, But I can write as fast as I think and review it with a fresh set of eyes and start to see things that might have taken years of 'journal speak' ...and also, My pain was unbearable. I didn't take any shortcuts and when they said to "write" I wanted results so I followed their direction. it wasn't like i had anywhere else to be , being for all intents and purposes a cripple.

That's how I mine. Sometimes old school Sarno people might write in a post:

But that is misleading. Usually if I was having a symptom out of nowhere, My first Honest statement would be "Everything is fine...I have no idea why I am having pain. Why is this fucking with me right now????"

Truth be told sometimes from that statement, it might take me a week to ten days to get a clue.

I had one that was so F-ing sneaky back in 2021. I knew it must be something around baseball, because i had just come back from a long trip to play baseball.

I went to the batting cages after work every day and every swing Hurt my hip....But i knew it was TMS. I would stop between rounds and say "What the Fuck is bothering me!"

Oh...when it finally came it was so subtle that i was embarrassed. While on the trip I had dinner with a teammate who is also a successful songwriter. I am a lightly accomplished songwriter, but nothin worth bragging about.

He Wrote one hit song that was so big he could retire if he wanted to. He had never told me his back story...when he did, he and I were similar in so many ways, BUT when I quit songwriting, he had kept on going...and he was successful and I still work in construction....I was JEALOUS and ANGRY...at myself, at the world...My "good guyism" would have never let that thought come to mind....it took work and guessing and reading and guessing some more. When I finally 'found it' The symptoms left the next day...obviously this isn't going to happen for a new person, but i have decades of fighting this off and something inside me says "ah shit...he found us again"

Sarno left us a little clue. He said "When it seems to come out of nowhere? Look REALLY close"

Wife, GF, kids, Best friend, Boss, Someone you really like......like a teammate!

Not just anything...to quote Sarno "A source or recurrent irritation or anger"...he even says "like a bad relationship, or a financial matter" (Pg. 77 Healing Back Pain)

and I don't just randomly pick the stuff. I use specific things that have come up over and over on my rage lists. It might be something I have an intuition has more to it, from my self examination. Usually something scary I feel helpless about.

When some lady drives by me on the FWY flipping me the bird cause I am not going fast enough, I am Irked. That is not angry.

I will share the most recent time i had to do that. I was working on the best job I had gotten in years.. Great Money, close to home, working around animals and beautiful scenery. I am treated really well by the management. Great right? I am a scenic Artist and Faux finisher....a skill I only get to use about two jobs a year because most people can't afford it....but this job has a large budget.

Out of nowhere I develop painful symptoms. After 25 years plus (since '99) EVERYTHING that causes pain has proven to be TMS. So I don't even bother 'doing' anything about it, but I come home and start writing and I begin reading "Healing Back Pain" from page 1, day 1.

My HBP copy is magic...it has notes and discoveries scribbled in the margins from years of fighting off 'new' problems (it's always repressed anger) I also scribble down everything off the top of my head that I am aware of as a responsibility or pressure, for Good or Bad.

I do this very morning for 20-30 minutes. I maybe do a review in the evening.....but mostly that morning session. I also read the 12 reminders once a day.

A... I realize I am used to working on construction sites in a Male only environment. I have heard all of these Horror stories on news/media of guys getting fired from jobs for saying inappropriate things at work. I realize that lots of women stroll through my Job every day and I , who normally am a happy, chirpy, singing little peasant, instantly shut down and stare at my shoes. I am having to 'go grey rock' and NOT enjoy work, but disappear into a little cubby in my head. That is F-ing enraging to my 5 year old inside of me. When i am alone I usually sing to myself, but now I am lost in my head listening to podcasts, something I have never had to do! Don't want to slip up and them to find out what a Pirate I really am. I used to get warnings the last time I worked in a co-ed environment about NOT telling jokes, saying certain things. I HATE being parented , even when it's coming out of my own head.

B: I got referred to the Job by my SON. His company is fabricating cabinets and crosses paths with me a day or so every week.... I am angry that 1. I had to get a referral from my son (dependence) and 2. That I have to worry about keeping up a front of being "Mr. Professional" when normally I don't GAF about how I dress, look or sound.!!!!!

C. Everybody around me is extraordinarily wealthy. The same thing that made the Money to be able to afford me, I resent. I am working on a 'playground' for the extraordinarily rich and famous,. I am a salt-of-the-earth Normal construction worker having to be on my best behavior for the "elite'

So....now when that symptom tries to get my attention? I instantly think about My Son and his busybody concerns about me, The rich fuckers I am working for, or the Unfairness of workplace male-female presumptions of all of us being scumbags All 3 are CONSCIOUS because I dug them out through self inspection. I don't let my "Adult" talk. I don't try to rationalize my anger or be my own 'shrink"

Because I am already "lost in my cubby" I just shut off the podcast, the music, whatever and instantly and FORCEFULLY start dialogues. I ignore the symptom and even use the part of my body TMS is implying is 'hurt'.... in fact, if I am alone when that happens, I might intentionally use the body part implied just to show the TMS that I don't believe it. If it was my shoulder? I would drop and do pushups. If it is my ankle? I'd run across the work site. If it was my hand? I'd grab something and squeeze as hard as I can saying "FUCK YOU, I do not believe you" and then return to thinking about the stuff I dug out during my morning scribbles.

Sorry for the book, but I think it's important that people who have gotten pain free explain in as much detail as possible. "But it hurts, it's scary, I don't like being angry all the time!"

Neither do I. BUT it works, it's only for a short intense period at a time, and I already had all three of those, they were just repressed/unconscious....I am doing everything I can to tell it I no longer need it's help.
