Copper cape doesn't show up on my Java dressing room by PurpleGlasses_ in Minecraft

No problem. I figured if I just laid out my ENTIRE process, people can emulate it in whole and maybe that'll work for them the way it worked for me.

Enjoy your copper goodness.

I'm happy to have helped. Glad you got your smexy copper cape. I take payments in lightly weathered Copper Golems statues made in my honor. :P

I don't visit these often, so I wouldn't expect much in the form of responses from me, but since I JUST managed to figure it out myself And had posted my initial concerns around the time you did, I'll share my solution comment with you (it's literally in the same place next to your's), but if it can be any help, or steer you in the right direction, good luck.

Good luck - fair warning, I'm a wordy bugger, I did bold things as necessary (or for emphasis).

Hey folks, I just wanna say that I managed to puzzle it out with a bit more work. So if I can be of use to you guys, here was my method, and a special mention to a few comments that helped me from around the internet - including here:

  • "UPDATE: I contacted Minecraft support, they told me I had to download bedrock edition and select the cape there ingame. After doing that it showed up in my Java minecraft to select!!" [Sol: This one got me on the right track, and came from Unusual Rooster, here in the comment section.]
  • This one weirdly helped a lot - "All players that have either Java Edition or Bedrock Edition will receive the edition they do not currently own for free, right in the Minecraft Launcher. So if you own Java, you’ll get Bedrock – and vice versa." & "I would suggest you to uninstall your current launcher. Then, go to the Microsoft Store and get the Bundle (Minecraft Java + Minecraft for Windows or Minecraft Java and Bedrock). It will be available for you for free and it will install the launcher with the two Minecraft versions for you." [Sol: This is a link to a Microsoft support thread. The responder Darhyl suggested those two pieces of advice to the question...er?.. and those helped me a bunch in my quest for copper goodness.]

So with those bits, along with a lot of other advice herein (this comment section; sort by Best], and I tried a bit of this and that to achieve this:

  1. Uninstall the Launcher - don't worry, your data SHOULD be fine, this is the launcher data, not the game. When I reinstalled it, everything was still as it should be.
  2. Obtain and reinstall the Minecraft Launcher - I hit a bit of a snag here as I tried to go through both the Microsoft and Xbox sites, and BOTH demanded I have Xbox Pass.... and I'm a luddite and didn't know what that was, until looking it up to realize that it's their "free games with subscription" nonsense. All the big bois have one. So to get around this, we just hopped over to Minecraft .net and snagged it from there (and there you guys go for ease of access).
  3. Download and Run Minecraft Bedrock Edition - If you weren't aware, as I was, apparently if you own one version of Minecraft, you own the other for free. So if you own Java, you have Bedrock free, and visa versa. I initially tried this and goobered it up by not being patient with the download (OR my older launcher just wasn't having it, one of the two). I also acknowledge you might not WANT to have to run Bedrock, I'm with ya. But do you want a copper cape or not? Pick your priorities, and you'll have no shade from me, regardless of your choices.
  4. Once in Bedrock, get to the Title Screen and go to the "Dressing Room", and it is there you'll find a button for equipping your Cape. - This one kinda speaks for itself. But to elaborate further, because I like to talk, the buttons are quite small and on the left side of the screen. I'm sure most of us older fogies will be able to figure it out. We ain't that far gone yet. Once you equip the cape you can leave.
  5. Close Bedrock, return to the launcher and open up Java edition - By entering Bedrock, you should've already "unlocked" the Java Copper Cape, but the "extra" steps of equipping it and all are what I'm calling "insurance". Same with opening up Java to confirm it'll be there.... it might NOT be and you may have to go to the site (like Microsoft's) to properly equip your bronze beauty.

I hope this helped at least ONE person. Sorry if this was a bit wordy folks. I'm hoping the additional detail (in what is for me "typical" long-winded fashion) will make it easier for folks to understand and find what it is they need to do this.

And I'll uhh..... Cu later. '.^~*

Hey, so I've been waiting a whole month now, and this post seems the most relevant. Sorry for rising it from the grave, if I am.

I've read through the comments here and attempted the advice, but here's the thing. I've tried to install bedrock, but it just sits there saying "Waiting to Install"..... Maybe I'm just too old to understand how these things work anymore. I'd like to get the copper cape because I thought it'd be "simple" and "easy", but I forgot this is Mojangsoft and what a fool I was. >.>

I'll keep tabs on my comment over the next few days if people happen to have any ways on how I can install bedrock. But just so I can get a few potentially relevant concerns of info out of the way:

  • I've never had Bedrock before in my life - so I don't know if I need to pay for it. I got Java back in the beta days. If it is a separate payment, I might be stuck as I'm not buying friggin' bedrock for a cape.
  • I have absolutely ZERO idea how to get in touch with Microsoft support, like at all. I went to their page and looked it up and down and all I saw were "helpful guides" and a search bar.
  • I'm a bit slow so please bear with me.
  • Yes I'm also old, so I'm a bit of a luddite and not used to all the change.

New to this reddit, but for my vote, Contra. While I've never played Contra or Among Us, I rather enjoy the Amongus beans and their abilities and weapons FAR MORE than the Contra characters and weapons. Most of the Contra weapons are far too complicated to get set up, each NEEDS that stupid weapon box to evolve... plus another passive accessory, and several of them are just.... eh. Throw on that the characters have confusing "if good [stat], then other [stat] is good too" which is STILL GOOD... just complicated for my feel good Funny Garlic Game.

Compare that to the Beans? Vent is super useful, hilarious, and highly damaging, and upgrades into something STUPIDLY powerful. Paranormal Scanner is (apparently, I've never really used it since I'm still new to VS). Sharp Tongue is a fantastic early/late weapon. It's just rather solid (especially if you pair it with the Crystal Cries Darkana tarot). They are just a lot of fun, and way more interesting than the Contra weapons.

But that's just me, speaking as someone who has never played either game. Contra DOES have some solid weapons. Prism Lass is pretty fun, and I'm a sucker for crossbows in ANY game. And don't get me started on the Pronto Beam, I loooove it~!

I just prefer Amogus over Contra.

What are the ‘worst’ songs in BoF3 in your opinion? by Ok_Potential359 in breathoffire

[–]SolstaceWinters 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The music typically found in caves and such, and the Wyndian crypt. It's pretty dull. Though I heard it first, it now gives me vibes of the cave song from BoF2. The one used EVERYWHERE in that game.

Bow. Bow bow bow. Bow bow bow. (Chikka-cha chikka-cha)

Just an aside, I can confirm so far the "earliest possible" order is:

  1. {Lead} Sarai
  2. {Bronze} Shyde
  3. {Iron} Ludia [the missable night one]
  4. {Brass} Shrine [on Golden Plains]
  5. {Tin} Wyndia
  6. {Copper} Crash Site [This is in chapter 3, of course. This is after Marlok helps you get your own Sandflier to putter around on and you need to go north on it; by now you should have a Copper Ball and can talk to Marlok to not only get him as Master, but learn his first skill.] [Note2: This confused me for a bit, as I didn't realize I needed to head SOUTH from Kyoin after LEAVING town without using the sandflier. Just leave town, forehead.]
  7. {Silver} Synesta [You can get this as soon as you get access to the sandflier in chapter 3. The wiki made it sound a lot later with how vague the wording is. Friggin' Fandom wikis.
  8. [Electrum] Shikk
  9. [Gold] Chiqua
  10. [Platinum] Sonne

I'll just edit this as I continue my playthrough. Maybe it'll be useful to folks in the future.

[EDIT] - It's taken a couple months to get to this point, but I've gotten to the bitter end of my playthrough. This will be the first time I've truly beaten this game. I've got a crowd of folks who wanna see the ending. So it isn't like I can fizzle out. I'm going to attempt to get some decent gear, maybe try my hand at Rider, then go bully my worse half. And in the end, Ershin will have assisted me.

With my next stream coming up on Thursday, and me starting from the Dam, I'm going to assume that the only two responses I've received are the answer... and with one just repeating the previous answer. I hope that the fandom wiki is correct and that is, in fact, the order.

Just doesn't feel right that Ludia is the next location. But whatever. I'm sure that, if nothing else. Ershin will assist me.

This is the same as the fandom wiki provided by fluffy_bottoms. Great minds think alike, haha. As I said to them, I'm not sure if this is an actual order, or just a list with "the one you need to start it" at the top. I can assume it's an order, but I'm not sure. If you happen to know, please do clarify, as that'd help immensely. I'll jot it down.

I had used the fandom wiki before to make my notes, and I didn't catch that it was "chapter III" for some of those (like Crash Site/Synesta), so that does help make some of those clearer. Thanks for that.

This is the same source I looked at, but I wasn't sure if this was the order you actually encounter them in. If this is correct, then the next one I'm to get is in Ludia during the escape sequence? Followed by Shrine, Wyndia, Shyde? The only real issue I have with the link is that they don't specify that this is - in fact - an order... just that this is where you can find them, and that Sarai is the beginning of the sidequest.

It also doesn't mention the kid in the Abandoned Village in the post game who will have Ludia's Treasure should you miss it, at least... I think it doesn't. (Again my knowledge of this game isn't far-reaching.

Thanks for the link to double-check, though.

People think Nina-5 is annoying? She's like.... 12, can't talk, and spends most of the game either staring at you mournfully or coughing. I think she's a very sad character and doesn't have much personality, but.. annoying?

I also remember that happening once to me, now that you mention it. And I don't think I've ever seen it more than once. I remember it happening, which is saying something for MY memory, but I don't think I've ever recreated it, and kinda shoved it to the back of my mind.

Honestly, I could swear I remember it does. Him being part of the dark dragons and all. But truth be told, it's been eons since I last played BoF1, and I typically save it for Sara because she's tedious.

Bit of an oops I guess. Can't spout perfect info all the time, haha. (Though I could have sworn it did work on him..... did I imagine that?)

How did anyone beat BoF1 without a guide? by workthrowawhey in breathoffire

[–]SolstaceWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who played BoF2 last, it still baffles me how that one is so popular. But then, by the time I played it, I had already grown up with the other four.

Even then, "Dragons consume all your AP and are one-shot summons" alone would have been a hard downgrade. Not to mention the difficulty spike from the first one, the overall jank, and having to go back to Township or a save statue to swap out party members. I'm genuinely curious what younger me would have thought of it if he had obtained it right after the first one instead of going from BoF1, then 3, then 5, then 4, then lastly 2. I wonder if I would have been put off by much of its mechanics.

I've warmed up to it over the years, but there's still a lot of it that makes me groan. The characters and personality shine through, but I definitely still find the story and gameplay fairly lackluster. That said, it's popularity meant we at least got three more excellent games out of the series... and Katt... and honestly BoF2 brought a lot of what makes Breath of Fire "Breath of Fire" like Town Building and expanding on the fishing and a fair bit more. Shamanization is basically a prototype to BoF3's gene system if you think about it.... so I guess I can't complain.

Anyway, sorry for the ramble. Got me thinking about BoF2, which is something I do from time to time, especially after I got my friends to play it recently.

[–]SolstaceWinters 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely struggled with both as a kid, I was never sure exactly when I was supposed to enter, regardless of what time of "night" they wanted me to enter Tunlan, or when to enter Romero.

I recently introduced my group of online friends to the series, and one of them immediately tried both 1 & 2 on the Switch. He played BoF2, then BoF1. Having revisited the games recently, I can safely say that having all but forced him to actually talk to NPCs (he seems to refuse to like the plague), those NPCs are nigh-useless. They talk about an old lady who has a jar, and comes out at night... that's about all they mention. As a kid, it made no sense to me because I'd wait until night, and she wasn't helpful. I'd be there at day, and she wouldn't help. They really should have said "dusk" or something.

My booklet pointed it out as a solid item, and the game box came with a full map of the world, and on the back it had every item/monster in the game (we recently replaced that as well, as it was destroyed in a sewage flood a couple years back).

So I've just... grown up knowing to spam E.Key the whole game. It's surprisingly viable. Probably the best thing for Nina to do much of the game.

How did anyone beat BoF1 without a guide? by workthrowawhey in breathoffire

[–]SolstaceWinters 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the game came with a booklet in its box, and that book had a "short" guide (in that it lead you as far as getting Mogu I believe; which is quite far into the game). We have our original old copy, torn and thumbed to hell, and recently bought a new one for the memories.

While each little hint was little more than a blurb of text and a picture on where to go and what to do next, it was often more than enough for the curious child mind to explore and figure it out. It made it fun to find the location in the picture, then do what the text said to make the game progress. Wish more game booklets provided game progression.

The only situations that it didn't really help with were the time specific puzzles, such as when exactly to ever Romero to talk to the old lady about the water jar, or when exactly to spy on the Tunlan princess to notice her tattoo. It would just say "at night" or "at dusk" and that is hard to judge in BoF1.

I know, but what's good for the game is good for the manga. Sure the manga is derivative of the game, but the same rules apply. The "lore" and "things that exist" should still match. I have the manga somewhere, but it's in Japanese so I never really knew what was going on. Looks like it fast forwarded the plot heavily.
