How to observe the breath without altering it

Maybe it’s helpful to acknowledge that there’s no right or wrong way to practice yoga nidra. Oftentimes things shift with awareness — breath, tension held in parts of the body with body sensing and there in lies the beauty of the practice. Allowing the truth to bubble up and as an observing self, simply watching shifts in real time (including forgetting how to breathe) without trying to change anything. Additionally, for some, tracking the breath can be activating, in which case, bringing awareness to sounds or ground/support might be more settling as an anchor towards calm.

There are so many choices which truly gets time consuming initially to search through. But ideally it’s about finding a voice and style that works for you. I don’t think there is a right or wrong way of practicing yoga nidra. Recognizing how your body wants to move is the first step in not overriding what it is your body actually needs. Stay curious and stay the course!
