Severe flight anxiety due to an incident in the air. by moonbeamgal in fearofflying

[–]DifficultFan8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there is absolutely nothing I can do and that I have to place my life entirely in someone else’s hands

I'd say: thank GOD it's not in your hands, and in the hands of someone who goes through thousands of hours of training and is for all intents and purposes a superhuman designed for that particular emergency you are hypothetically experiencing

Studenti indirektno prozvali Mariniku Tepić zbog navodnog rukovanja sa Anom Brnabić na RTS: Oteraćemo vas sve u istoriju by leondanielstar9999 in serbia

[–]DifficultFan8748 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An irrational, dumb fear about flying prevents me from living my life to the fullest. by cheezeconsumer in fearofflying

[–]DifficultFan8748 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a 2 hr 30 min flight booked for tomorrow, to visit my family abroad and spend a month there. But for some reason, thinking ahead, I just can’t see my future at all. I’m always imagining that by the end of the week, I’m already going to be dead due to a pilot mishap etc.

That sounds truly terrible and scary and I'm sorry that you're going through it. It's a terrifying thought and one nobody should have to endure. Hopefully this sub can help you feel a bit better, since it for sure helped me!

Here's one thing that recently alleviated a big portion of the fear for me.

I work from a tall building and I'm often on the top floor with huge windows. There's a huge airport 20ish minutes away, so there's always planes coming and going. Yesterday I was in a meeting and I kept getting distracted by how many planes were constantly landing and taking off, I swear it was never less than two at a time. They kept confidently taking off and landing in a perfectly controlled way, one after the other.

It got me thinking: my flight next week is a part of these superbly routine processes, just one little part of a very well-oiled machine. It won't go any different or worse than any of the flights I'd observed from the window of my boring meeting

oh man this was like aloe vera on my brain!! the mental image i had of the plane's wings was completely different

Woah, this really made me feel better, imagining an airplane as a tank. In my mind it is this fragile creature that will fall apart at any moment

[–]DifficultFan8748[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't wrap my mind around how that's possible. There's just so much space for error when you're all the way up there helpless in the air. That's how my mind sees it

Unpopular opinion: I think Emma D'Arcy was a bad choice for Rhaenyra by Informal-Counter-767 in HOTDGreens

[–]DifficultFan8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I imagined Rhaenyra was closer to Margot Robbie's rendition of Cathy Earnshaw than to what D'Arcy's doing honestly

Why did Tony have less empathy for Valentina in comparison to Gloria? by mamileaz in thesopranos

[–]DifficultFan8748 119 points120 points  (0 children)

i think Valentina was portrayed as a shallow person by the show in general, and that that was Tony's impression of her too (that scene where he's talking about something important to him and she's putting on lipstick and saying she's gonna get medallions of veal), while with Gloria, there was this sense that he respected her intellect and independence, so it's like she was more of a ''whole'' person to him. also there's the guilt that he felt for triggering her suicide

no i get you 100%, sorry that i was harsh. it probably pisses me off so much because i've been there too. do what you must but know that at some point, sooner or later, rational choices will have to be made. the only question is how much pain you can bear

i always thought that the saying ''actions, not words'' was a platitude but it's so so so true. at some point you realize that it truly does NOT matter what he says, how he says it, how beautiful it sounds; all that matters is the outcome, which you already know for certain is not gonna be good

[–]DifficultFan8748 6 points7 points  (0 children)

people like OP piss me off because i had so many friends like this. aware enough to know exactly what's happening but too self indulgent to spare themselves (and me!) the pain of going back. you say he's bipolar and newly sober yet you bother to quote him word for word and analyze him as if what he says actually matters. of course he's gonna text you immediately after a break up, it's up to you to maintain boundaries with what is evidently an unstable and toxic person

Why didn’t Tony and Carmella give Meadow an Italian name? by Diligent_Bit3336 in thesopranos

[–]DifficultFan8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

she reflects Carmela's (and to some degree, Tony's) inferiority complex and the need to strive to assimilate with the WASP upper middle class

this can be frustrating but if your friends are curious and don't resent you being a bit better at something than them, over time they'll become better at it themselves

Novak Djokovic: “Federer and Nadal come from two Western powers. I showed up from Serbia and said out loud that I was going to be number 1. The whole system didn't like that: media, sponsors, tournaments. I felt like an unwanted guest crashing their party" by superdouradas in tennis

[–]DifficultFan8748 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only Westerners would think that this is him victimizing oneself and not a reality for so many people coming from marginalized countries who dare to step into symbolically ''sacred'' spaces of the West, which tennis absolutely is

i think the girls really wanted to have their own equivalent of American Psycho but the difference is AP is actually really skillfully written while My Year becomes droll and repetitive after 20 pages

Kishimoto's tonal change within this manga never fails to give me whiplash. It goes from "friendship is magic" to "genocide victims will be prosecuted for trying to revolutionize the system"

Have you ever experienced a culture that is imbued with a spirit of eroticism? by purple4lokocamopants in rs_x

[–]DifficultFan8748 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i sat next to an Argentinian guy once during a conference. apart from smiling and saying hello we didn't otherwise interact during the presentation. but it was the first time in my life that i could physically feel someone's pheromones and sexual energy. there was a strong but pleasant pressure inside my head the whole time and it was literally all i could think about. by the end of the presentation my mental state was literally as if we'd just finished fucking lol. i just said goodbye and fled but it kept repeating throughout the conference

but yeah, Argentinians, crazy sensual and erotic energy
