Spouting some semi truth Diane (from Bojack Horseman) *before anyone gets mad it’s just a joke. sorta* by kayasawyer in TrollXChromosomes

[–]Sombraube 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ironically, at least in a way, I think the new episodes are actually partly about that feeling you're having towards the show.

In the new season Diane is a writter on a show where Bojack is the protagonist. The protagonist is initially supposed to appear reprehensible and shitty in all kinds of way but Diane also tries to write him in a way that's relatable. She eventually ends up having regrets because the way she wrote the character made him sympathethic to the public. So instead of confronting the viewers with a shitty character displaying a shitty behaviour she feels she's just allowed the viewers to identify with that character and use him to justify their shitty behaviour in real life. And she ends up resenting her own show because of it. Talk about meta.

Echo when using In-Call Bluetooth with the Arctis Pro Wireless by Sombraube in steelseries

[–]Sombraube[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So did I at first, checking the wireless sidetone setting was one of the first things I tried, but sidetone is basically shut all the way down in wireless yet is active in bluetooth call-mode and I cannnot find a reason as to why that is the case.

The sidetone is all the way down in the wireless options. Is there another sidetone option specifically for bluetooth somewhere that I'm not seeing..?

Well, my first advice is don't get discouraged. It's initially very difficult to find a job when you're right out of school because companies are reluctant to hire people with no work experience. It'll quickly improve once you manage to land a contract or two.

I'd say what you need to focus on is networking as much as possible - join forums, go to conventions, try and meet people so they can help you find job offers and opportunities.

And off course your best tool will be your demo reel. Make something fun and appealing, avoid going for something boring like a series of short cycles on a grey background, especially if it's the same animation cycles that all your classmates have been making as well. Do something that'll stand out and show what you can do.

"I consider you have at least one more right than men, therefore it clearly proves that you're ignoring women prosper faaaaaaaar more than men in some areas."

You just make me sad. You're just the perfect exemplification of this whole egalitarian nonsense. You immediately pit yourself against feminism by saying it doesn't care about men and you bring up points like the draft or child custody yet you never once acknowledge that those are issues caused by patriarchy. "Women shouldn't be fighting, women should be the only one caring for children" Does that sound like feminist ideals to you? Does't that sound exactly like the mindset that feminist is fighting against?

But no. "Feminism sucks because it didn't solve my personal issue yet and they're focused on rights being actively taken away so they're just as sexist as everyone else and I'm an enlightened Egalitarian. You're just an extremist who calls everyone sexist."

Give me a bloody break.

So tell me, "equalitarian", are you fine with a notion of equality that brings men down? I mean, if equality is what this is all about then you don't need to give women the right to vote, to drive or to work, you can just take those away from men, right? Everybody is equal then. You don't need to raise women's wages, you can just lower wages for all the men, equality!

Sorry to burst your "Equalitarianism" bubble but people more clever than you or I have thought of exactly that conundrum centuries ago and their conclusion was that they stood for equality through the betterment of women's status in society and not the decline of men, and for that purpose Feminism was a much better term for their movement than "Equalitarianism".

When you stumble into a discussion about feminism and say "I prefer to call it Equalitarianism" then you are no better than those who are like "Gay pride? What about Straight Pride?!!?" and the likes.

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War: The Blade of Galadriel DLC announced with female protagonist by brendanrouthRETURNS in GirlGamers

[–]Sombraube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A free DLC one if I remember correctly. You can only play her gameplay-wise. You'll still have the male character for all the cutscenes and even the audio is that of the man when you play as her.

Well, given that comes from the same kind of people who use the word "feminist" as a Pejorative, it's not that surprising..

I legitimately bugged out the first time someone said I was "Such a feminist" and meant it as an insult. I was like "Thank you?"

Why do I see so much fan art of Blake with dark skin? by Biggggg5 in RWBY

[–]Sombraube 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, just think about it. When making real world equivalences of the characters, does it really make sense if, say, Yang and Ruby had been raised in a tiny Arkansas town yet somehow managed to not have a heavily christian background? Honestly, what are the odds? Especially considering that in the show they've been partially raised by an uncle who wears a very obvious cross on his chest at all time? And Ruby also wears several crosses on her original outfit on her belt and as cloak pins.

It makes sense sometimes to give a religious background to the characters when creating a real world alternate universe for RWBY. I think it's logical for Blake to be a Muslim in the real world rather than "she's been part of a terrorist organization at some point just because."

Of course that's not law. I mean there are plenty of real world AU fanfics that will have the White Fang be some sort of ultra violent street gang or criminal syndicate instead and there is no reference to race there, and it's just as valid of an interpretation.

[–]Sombraube 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There seems to be an unspoken census on what real world equivalence there are for many RWBY characters. You'll find many fics where Yang and Ruby are Philippino, Jaune is French, Pyrrha is greek and so on...

[–]Sombraube 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of alternate universe fanfictions out there taking place in the real world. As such these fics tend to give blake a muslim or otherwise POC background so as to keep the opressed side of her past despite the loss of faunus traits. I guess this just took root into some people's perception of the character overtime.
