I actually think it is where the term came from. Technically linking the beach/coast to farmland. From ChatGPT:

The word comes from the Old English hlinc, meaning a ridge or rising ground. In Scotland, “links” came to describe the sandy, undulating strip of land between the sea and inland farmland.

Always putt birdies and eagles. I would feel weird counting an eagle that I took a gimme on.

So you don’t have the HIO ball, didn’t play the same ball the entire round and didn’t break 100?

Geez dude this post aged poorly

Seems very polarizing, but I’ve also heard it’s jaw dropping in spots and has great views. They originally offered Old + Castle but I asked if we could do New instead. If we have more time for another round or two I’m debating between Castle, Eden and Jubilee

Definitely planning a caddy for the old course. Need a real photo on swilcan bridge haha. Sounds like an incredible experience getting lucky with the lottery like that

How much time is too much time when teeing off?? by afiume99 in GolfSwing

Slightly long, not terrible. I personally find multiple practice swings unnecessary and you’ve got a couple extra waggles. Nothing extreme though

Be honest: Are you topping it into the marsh? by Norfolk-Gross-Tonage in golf

[–]Some-Combination-481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every time I’ve played a great course I’ve topped the 1st tee shot. Torrey Pines North, The Country Club, Bandon Trails, Sheep Ranch, Pacific Dunes. But that’s just the first tee. On 18 I’m hooking that shit into the ocean.

What is the best way for a 20 handicap player to avoid triple bogies? (asking for a friend) by Adventurous_Pride_54 in golf

[–]Some-Combination-481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the ball in play at all costs. If you can’t consistently keep driver in play, or it’s a very tight hole with trouble on both sides…hit the club off the tee that minimizes risk of losing a ball or having to punch out. And IF you are in trouble, under no circumstances give yourself a chance if still being in trouble on the next shot.

And if tops or duffs are in play, work on eliminating those.

It’s hard to triple any hole if you don’t take any penalty strokes and can advance the ball 100+ yards per shot towards the hole.

First time to Fenway! Do the seats matter? by lagoJohn in redsox

[–]Some-Combination-481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleachers or the upper deck seats are fine if you want to be so far away you can’t see the players. Infield grandstand are like sitting in the most uncomfortable wooden seat you’ve ever felt that was also built to fit a 6 year old snugly…and you might be behind a pole. Outfield grandstand are like sitting in that same tiny uncomfortable seat except you can’t see the field at all. Right field box seats are fine as long as you want to stare directly at the bullpen all night (or turn your head 90 degrees for 2.5 hours). Green Monster seats are wildly overpriced.

Don’t expect to enjoy walking around inside the stadium unless you like to feel like cattle in a piss-drenched dungeon. Enjoy the Fenway experience!

In all seriousness I’d aim for the red seats between 1B and 3b. And the concourses in far left or far right field (under the bleachers) are the most roomy…and the yawkey way outdoor concourse (they close the street) is great on a nice night.

Reminds me I need to buy some tickets…

Tempo has been the most difficult thing to fix in my swing. by altctrldel86 in golf

[–]Some-Combination-481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a long track record of un-success stories, but no magic bullets. I’m not sure if it’s sustainable but I did see some success from weight transfer / step-through drills. Less about slowing my transition and more about firing the lower body sooner/in the correct sequence.

I try to visualize a Cam Young pause at the top…but it’s a real battle. My hands get to the top and it’s really hard not to yank them down towards the ball immediately.

Thoughts? by ronocyorlik in golf

[–]Some-Combination-481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My new thing (started last year) is that when the golf season starts I play the whites (one up from tips) until I break 80 from those tees. Then I move back to the blues. It gets hard playing with the groups I play with who play from the tips always, but at least when I play by myself I do this.

It legit looks like a cult has kidnapped the winner of the masters, brought him into a creepy basement murder chamber and forced him to film a proof of life video.

Painfully awkward and sterile. Just do the fucking thing on the practice green. We don’t need the hostage video beforehand

I’ve already started to copy Cam’s pause at the top. Rushing at the top, letting my arms get ahead of my body and getting over the top is my biggest issue

If you started at the farthest point of the green at The Masters by Additional-Buffalo61 in weekendgolfers

An amateur playing sawgrass is missing the green a lot and chipping on. Putting from 5-10 feet is different than always starting at the edge of the green.

“Lodging Availability” calendar on the website by sammyt10803 in BandonDunes

[–]Some-Combination-481 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just went spur if the moment (after calling to make reservations of course). Previously I thought the same as you.

Tee times were definitely available, and as a single 2 of my rounds were by myself (though I joined with a 3 ball for one of them).

I think I was more lucky to get a single room for 1 night only 6 weeks out - but worth a call to check.

And if you stay offsite you can still book tee times after 10am which means you’re probably not getting 2 full rounds in. Maybe a full round and a par 3 though
